The Little Stable

The Little Stable is situated in a meadow, which is part of a 63 acre arable field adjacent to Laundimer Woods and Fermyn Woods. The land has been farmed by my father and grandfather for the last 60 years going back to a time of horse drawn ploughs and open top tractors. The stable was built 25 years ago for a horse called Whisper and over the years it was left to deteriorate. I have been gradually restoring the building since 2019 and decided it would be ideal as a luxury tiny home. I have put my heart and soul into build a unique, comfortable and private space for people seeking an escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. On the doorstep are some fantastic walks and rides through the woods. They were one of the original re-release sites for Red Kites in the UK and the breeding programme has been incredibly successful. It's a hidden gem, off the beaten track and a great place to reconnect with nature and the countryside. We can give you a map of the many trails through the woodland and other places of interest. We would advise bringing a pair of wellies or sturdy walking boots. A short car journey away you will find Deene House & Park (3 miles), Kirby Hall (4 miles), Rockingham Castle (4 miles), Boughton House (5 miles), Lyveden New Bield (6 miles) and the pretty and historic market town of Oundle (7 miles), A little further afield there is the beautiful town of Stamford and magnificent Burghley House (19 miles).

Our beautiful Log Cabin (KINGFISHER) was completed in May 2017 and the static homes style lodges, (LAVENDER AND SUNFLOWER) in April 2021. Kingfisher is a more rustic vibe with log burner and oil filled radiators for heating and Lavender and Sunflower are more modern vibe with gas central heating. Lavender and Sunflower both have ramp access. They all have their own personal jetty and veranda to fish from. You can also fish anywhere around the lake as we do not allow day tickets. Kingfisher has 3 bedrooms, so sleeps 3 singles or 3 couples. The other two have 2 bedrooms, so sleeps just 2 singles or 2 couples. It is such a peaceful haven. All your troubles just disappear when you arrive. The calming beauty of the lake is inspiring. We want this to become our very own nature reserve, encouraging nesting of all kinds to mature to full potential. We want you to share on our journey and progress along the way. We don’t look on this as a business, but a ‘home from home’. It is our secretive safe haven, nestled nicely in-between Boston and Skegness in a peaceful surrounding – there is no traffic apart from the occasional Spitfire or Lancaster flying by! Also, depending on what time of year, the occasional combine harvester or tractor working the surrounding fields. Please note that our fishing village and cabin site are for adults only, no children or pets are allowed. We may welcome well behaved and experienced fishing people from the age of 15 years upwards. Situated in the county of Nottinghamshire, in the East Midlands, Nottingham is a popular tourist destination, offering lots of attractions—many of which relate to the city's ties to the legend of Robin Hood. Popular attractions include Nottingham Castle, which features plenty of Hood-themed activities for children, and the City of Caves, an ancient system of caves that weave below the city centre. There are plenty of beautiful natural areas in and around the city, from the Attenborough Nature Reserve—a popular spot for birdwatching—to the famous Sherwood Forest, a national nature reserve.

Where to go

Cannock Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB)

With a mix of coniferous and deciduous groves, heathland, wetlands, and farmland, Cannock Chase—an hour’s drive of Nottingham—is the place to go if you wish to see a lot of different types of flora in one place. Cycle paths weave through the area, making it an excellent spot to visit on two wheels. Many landowners in and around the area offer campsites and glamping.

Peak District National Park

Among the most popular of England’s national parks, this 55-square-mile expanse is an excellent place to stretch your legs—or get some exercise. Here you’ll find miles of walking and cycling paths that wind through beautiful landscapes dotted with heaths and moors. Tourist attractions include four show caves and a museum—the Eyam Museum—that chronicles the story of the bubonic plague.

Lincolnshire Wolds AONB

If you’re up for a long walk, the Lincolnshire Wolds AONB is the place to be. The area is known for its walking trails, including the 268-mile-long Pennine Way National Trail and the 55-mile-long Derwent Valley Heritage Way, which runs along the Derwent Valley. The trail crosses the Derwent Valley Mills, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the birthplace of the modern mill system.

When to go

Nottingham has typical English weather, with cool—but rarely freezing winters—warmish summers, and a persistently high chance of rain. The weather is at its finest from May through September, and you're best off visiting during this period if you plan to do much tent camping or walking. If you come during the first week of October, however, you'll be able to attend the Nottingham Goose Fair, a funfair that traces its origins to the 13th century.
