The campsite is located in a private property in the outskirts of El Yunque Rainforest in the town of Luquillo. The campsite areas and facilities are about 8 out of 43 acres of all the private property of rainforest, flowers, palm trees, and various fruit trees. The Sabana River, one of many that originate from El Yunque National Rainforest, the river goes through the property. All the campsites are close by the river with each having their own access and individual fire pits. In simple words: there are no screens on the windows, and you sleep with a mosquito net. Insects are a vital part of the flora and fauna, and you can see a wide variety of them in the surroundings, from lizards to fireflies. In the same way, and despite the fact that we have an exterminator visit every 2 weeks, sometimes they can be inside the grandfather's house. A real, genuine, and magical experience.For those not familiar with the local driving conditions, it's advisable to approach the journey with a sense of adventure and patience. Carrie and I had a wonderful time!!! Mariah and Zach are beautiful people, and have put together a masterpiece the blends real camping with a touch of the right amount of accomodations. Waking up to the river flowing and the birds chirping. The animals on the grounds, the bonfires and being around awesome people made me forget all about the world. The trails, river walking, swimming holes, hiking, and trails was awesome to explore. Just a little drive and we can visit just about anywhere we wanted to go. The perfect all around balance to everything we needed to recharge the batteries. We love this place and will absolutely be returning sooner rather than later.

Great spot 15 minute drive away from el yunque hiking trails. we had camp site La Piedra which was right by the river stream. Electricty, hot water, and charging box were not expected but very much appreciated. Prepare for heavy rain during the nights.

2 nights at Barefoot Travelers Rooms Guesthouse

We had an absolutely amazing stay at Barefoot Travelers! From the clear directions prior to arrival, to the fabulous hosts making sure we had fresh fruit and eggs for breakfast, to the our little buddy CayoAmor it was an absolute pleasure! We can’t wait to go back :)
