Set on a hillside in protected woodland with stunning valley views and between two of France’s most beautiful medieval villages, this intimate retreat is a place to slow down and truly land. The spaces have been handcrafted using natural materials, traditional techniques and a strong sense of artistry. Stay in one of the luxury yurts or the cosy hilltop caravan, each with sweeping valley views, birdsong mornings and long golden sunsets. Interiors are warm, calming and thoughtfully designed to feel both beautiful and lived-in.
Daily life here unfolds outdoors. Bathe in a unique earthship-style shower built from earthbags, lime and cob, with glass bottle walls that shimmer with light. Sink into the wood-fired hot tub as the scent of Douglas fir and oak drifts through the air. Cook slowly in the living-roof outdoor kitchen surrounded by herbs, or fire up the cob pizza oven made from clay sourced directly from the land.
At the heart of the retreat is a handcrafted timber roundhouse with a living roof, built using wood from our own forest. It’s a sanctuary for stillness, reflection, yoga, music or simply sitting by the fire and letting the nervous system soften.
For guests seeking deeper relaxation, luxury spa treatments using hot stones and bespoke essential oil blends are available to book in advance. Breathwork sessions can also be arranged, offering a powerful yet gentle way to reset, release tension and reconnect - made even more potent by the natural surroundings.
The wider landscape invites exploration: ancient pilgrimage paths, wildflower meadows, organic gardens and nearby villages rich in stone architecture, local markets and outstanding French cuisine. Welcome to Home Sweet Lodge, a peaceful glamping retreat in the heart of the Dordogne, France. Set on a former vineyard, 20 minutes from Bergerac and 5 minutes from the quiet village of Saint-Germain-et-Mons, we offer a quiet escape with wide-open views over the Périgord countryside and Monbazillac.
Glamping, our way
Glamping is a form of camping, but at Home Sweet Lodge, GL stands for Grand Luxe: a comfortable, warm and relaxed way to enjoy your holiday.
Privacy and space
Only five luxury safari tents are spread across 8,500 m² of grounds, so you'll enjoy plenty of privacy, space and silence. Each tent is 50 m² including its terrace, and the view from every one of them is breathtaking.
Arrive and relax
Beds are made on arrival and towels are provided. Wifi and parking are free. Just bring your suitcase and your appetite for holiday.
Your hosts
We're Audrey and Sébastien. We live nearby and are always happy to help with local tips, answer questions or simply have a chat. From time to time we open our little bar, where guests can meet over a drink and a snack.
The safari tents
Each tent sleeps up to 5 people and offers:
A fully equipped kitchen: dishwasher, induction hob, fridge-freezer, microwave, Nespresso machine, blender and all the usual appliances
Cutlery, plates, cups and glasses for 5 people
A dining area and a sitting area
A bathroom with a spacious rain shower, sink and toilet
One bedroom with a double bed, and one with single and bunk beds
A terrace with a lounge set, bar table, picnic table, parasol, sunbeds and electric barbecue
Free wifi
Our tents are named after the grape varieties once grown here: Chardonnay, Grenache, Merlot, Sancerre and Sauvignon. Sauvignon is wheelchair accessible thanks to its location, step-free access and layout.
The swimming pool
Our outdoor pool is heated, so you can enjoy it in early and late season as well as in summer. There are plenty of sunbeds and parasols around it, and the pool is fenced so young children can't enter unaccompanied.
Sports and games
There's always something to do, for young and old: a pétanque court, football field, basketball, table tennis, swings, a playhouse, trampoline, croquet, badminton sets and more.

Fabulous stop over on our way to northern Spain, open out of season, lovely hosts (wish we’d got here in time for Sunday lunch in their little pub!). Set among the rolling hills, stunning sunset, outdoor kitchen so we could make some gorgeous food and drink wine to the sound of crickets, fell asleep to the sound of owls and wakened by the sound of tweeting birds. Must stay here again if we are passing through. 20th October. Great toilets, showers, bbq, outdoor seating, ehu.

What a delightful campsite and brilliant hosts. Gorgeous spot off the beaten track, excellent and well kept facilities. Loved the touch of being able to pre-order baguettes and pastries for the morning. Attended the renowned curry night on the Monday which was lovely and great to mingle with other campers/villagers. Alasdair and Fiona run an excellent shop.

This is by far the nicest and friendliest site I have stayed at on this round France trip. Small. Family run. Great clean facilities. Use of fridge and large outdoor kitchen. Electric hookup and grass pitches. I will be back to try the glamping tents and hottubs.

My family and I loved camping at Camping D'Artagnan. Gemma and Rob have created a little haven in nature with all the facilities you could need for a great camping trip, including a well stocked kitchen. Our little girl loved running around after the chickens and we all enjoyed having a dip in the pool after a hot day. Close to some lovely villages and a beautiful lake for swimming, we had a very relaxing and enjoyable stay. Gemma and Rob are also extremely attentive and happy to help at all times. We will definitely go back!

We loved our 1 night stay! We had a lovely, spacious pitch and the facilities were superb and so clean! The campsite had walks on the door step and also had a pub onsite and a pool. It was the perfect, peaceful stop off on our travels.

4 nights at Domaine Le Poteau
What a beautiful setting - nestled amongst vineyards, the pitches are spacious, peaceful and shaded by trees, some having views across the countryside and of the nearby village rooftops. The facilities are recently renovated and immaculate. It is an idyllic place to camp.
The hosts really make the place what it is, paying attention to all the little details. We were welcomed with a glass of locally produced wine (you can order more of it from them by the carafe or bottle) and able to order freshly baked bread and pastries which were delivered each morning from the local boulangerie. We were also lucky to be there on one of the nights that the host was cooking a meal- so enjoyed dining with other campers.
Other highlights included the friendly animal companions- donkeys, chickens and cats; and the secluded swimming pool which you reach by walking through a vineyard.
The village itself as a short walk or cycle, with a pleasant square and a boulangerie, epicerie, bar, couple of restaurants, and a lovely lake and lakeside open air pool and tennis courts.
We could understand why so many campers keep going back, and expect we’ll be back int he future!

Where to go
Atlantic Coast
Miles of sandy beaches and windswept shores stretch south of La Rochelle, but the most popular destinations for a camping holiday are the three offshore islands. The Ile-de-Ré and the Ile d’Oléron can both be reached by bridge from the mainland, while boat cruises to the Ile d’Aix often include the famous Fort Boyard, marooned on its own isle. Bring your bike to explore the beaches, pine forests, and dunes.
Charente-Maritime
Don’t just stick to the coast—a road trip along the sunflower-lined country lanes of Charente-Maritime will take you to laid-back market towns and family-run wineries. Stop off at the historic riverport of Rochefort, the Roman ruins of Saintes, and the mediaeval Old Town of Cognac, where you can tour the esteemed Cognac distilleries and join locals for a traditional aperitif.
Marais Poitevin
North of La Rochelle, the wild wetlands and salt marshes of the Marais Poitevin Regional National Park mark the border of the Vendée. Explore the meandering waterways by boat or kayak, go bird-watching along the banks, or pitch your tent or park your caravan at a tranquil family campsite in the heart of nature.
When to go
Like most Atlantic Coast resort towns, La Rochelle fills up with vacationers in the summer months, when sunseekers head out to the beaches and surrounding islands. Plan your trip outside of July-August to avoid the biggest crowds—it’s often warm enough for swimming and water sports in June and September, too. Camping season runs from April through October, and many campgrounds close the rest of the year.
