Burgundy is wine country, so hop in your motorhome or campervan and set out on a scenic road trip through the vine-covered hills and winding country lanes. Follow the “Route des Grands Cru” wine trail all the way to the winemaking capital of Beaune, stopping along the way to tour the wine cellars and enjoy wine tasting in the Côte d’Or, Côte de Beaune, and Côte de Nuit appellations
West of Dijon, the Morvan Natural Regional Park is the ideal destination for a hiking and camping holiday. There are at least a dozen campgrounds to choose from, ranging from simple municipal campsites to 3- and 4-star campgrounds with a swimming pool. Enjoy hiking, mountain biking, or horse riding along miles of woodland trails, or go kayaking, fishing, and whitewater rafting along the Cure and Chalaux rivers.
North of Dijon, the sprawling Forêts National Park is one of Europe’s largest protected natural areas, stretching across into the Haute-Marne department. Outdoor adventurers can take their pick of more than 200 kilometres of hiking trails, 1,000 kilometres of mountain biking trails, and 600 kilometres of rivers, plus there’s the chance to spot rare wildlife such as the elusive black stork.
Summer is the peak season in Dijon, but the best time to explore is in the fall when the summer heat begins to cool and the wine harvest is underway. October and November are prime times for wine-tasting tours, with wine and food festivals held around Burgundy and Dijon hosting its renowned International Gastronomic Fair. The main camping season is April through October, but you’ll find a few campgrounds and Hipcamps that stay open year-round.
