Come join us at the Gaylin Farms – home to four friendly goats, Newfoundland ponies, Chanticler chickens, two dogs and a cat. Stay at our completely private cabin (sleeps 3 comfortably, sleeping mats/air mattresses NOT provided) isolated within the centre of a gorgeous 25-acre forest with a private groomed c. 1.5 km walking/biking trail. The cabin is a 5-minute walk from the Trans Canada RailTrail which grants easy access for longer bike rides, runs, hikes, and four-wheeler adventures. You’ll walk through a horse pasture and a cow pasture on your way to the cabin. There is a large farm pond (10ft deep) on the property for swimming. Enjoy access to locally-sourced food, firewood (at a small fee), drinking water, a private firepit, small wood stove and our old-fashioned wood-fired cook stove. There is no electricity or running water (but we provide ample drinking water) and there can be access to a charger box so you may charge your devices or have a light at night. Bring your pets and enjoy a private retreat. The max capacity of the cabin is three people. An outhouse with double-duty bag and second luggable loo are available for all guests. Minimum stay: 2 nights.
NEW ADDITION: A new room, a small annex, has been constructed to allow for downstairs sleeping and writing area. It is fully insulated with a wood stove so this area may be used year round. The annex gives one a deeper feeling of being a part of the woods.

The property consists of a 6 acre lot right on the beach and an 145 acre wood lot right across the street. The beach is sandy at low tide and ideal for swimming, canoeing, bird watching, etc. The wood lot has a cabin on it and groomed walking trails. It is inhabited by a wide variety of wildlife. The property on the beach is bordered by a small brook and a variety of water fowl come to feed, rest and bathe. Nova Scotia can be seen on the horizon.

Weekend Trip to Bootsie's
Absolutely loved our stay! The camp had all the basic necessities for off grid, with perfect layout and warm decor. The land and trails were so fun to explore. Snowshoeing and winter bonfire were great - peaceful nature retreat at its best. Dawn and Terry were very much great hosts, with directions and explanations at the start, even lending us a sled for our unrequired heavy packs, as well as letting us know to reach out anytime if anything more needed. No need for that, the cabin already had all we needed for a weekend stay, along with special touches. The games and puzzles were a great addition too! Thanks so much for sharing your piece of paradise!!

We had a great two night stay at the Owl's Nest cabin. Helmut answered all of our questions before we left and transported us to the cabin to show us around the cabin and property. Cabin is secluded and off-grid. Our dog was not a fan of the steep stairs to the loft. Don't forget to bring your orange vest and remember to check for ticks. Highly recommend for those looking for a quiet getaway.

We absolutely loved our stay at Owl’s Nest! Helmut treated you like family, sharing his experiences tending the forest and the cabin that he built. If you’re looking for a place to get off-grid, connect with nature, and be able to explore the many trails just outside your door, this is the place! We especially appreciated how the land was private, so that we could let our pup explore without worrying about running into any other dog owners. It was a great to share this cabin and we will certainly be coming back!

We surprised my parents with a stay at Bootsie Back 40 Cabin for their 40th anniversary, and it was absolutely perfect! The hosts went above and beyond with every detail. The cabin itself is so cozy and welcoming, surrounded by stunning fall colors that made the whole experience magical.
My parents loved the peace and quiet — they spent their mornings sipping tea while listening to the birds sing. The hosts were wonderfully friendly and even took photos of my parents for me, which was such a thoughtful touch. They also got to visit the farm animals (including two emus!), which they absolutely adored.
Thank you for helping me give my parents such a memorable and heartfelt experience. This will be a trip they’ll cherish forever!

Great little spot. The wood stove made it very cozy and we had enough power for the water, lights and coffee in the morning. It was great having a camping experience while not having to take down tents in the morning. Recommend it if you're in the area.

Besides being the cabin weve ever been to, this cabin is perfect to get away from it all. We really felt recharged and rested and able to reconnect with nature. We saw plenty of different birds, including a flock of Cedar Waxwings and Woodpeckers. The wild blackberries also make for a delicious treat while exploring the surroundings. The atmosphere inside the cabin, during day or night, compares to no other. It is a pleasure for the senses and its solid wood structure has hints Alpine Forest wilderness.
You can not go wrong booking the owl's nest.

Beautiful location. Serene and perfect for dropping off the face of the planet for a moment. Birdsong was beautiful. You have everything you need at the cabin to function as a normal human. Just no wifi and low cell service, which is perfect. And I am assuming it might be a little stuffy upstairs on really hot days- I was afraid I'd be chilly at night but it was really the opposite- a little warm. (I went in early July) To get to the coastal area from here, it's about a 25 minute walk down a dirt road- thought that was notable because I was worried about ticks but the path/road isn't too grassy or anything. If you go on the trails though, I'm sure the bugs and ticks might be more of a concern so might need boots/ clothing to cover up. The coast is along a main road and is mostly rocky so make sure to go out during low tide. Bring bug spray! The mosquitos are no joke. Thanks Helmut for creating this space for others to be able to get away from it all! 10/10 recommend- just be prepared for the elements.

1 night at Beach and Forest
We stayed here for our last night of our trip from Ontario to the Maritimes. HUGE forest plus the most amazing views of the Northumberland Strait with the warmest saltwater we found anywhere on the East Coast. The Owl's Nest Cabin is nestled deep in the woods a cool 10 min ride from where we parked the car and Helmut took us on his side by side with all our gear and came to pick us up again in the morning. The beautiful wood cabin built by Helmut with wood from his lot was an amazing place to rest our heads (even with the moose crashing through the woods at night!). We wish we could have stayed longer and will definitely book again.

2 nights at Bootsie's
Bootsie's was our home for 2 nights During our road trip from Ontario to the Maritimes. It was well equipped and we were able to drive our car right to the cabin. We enjoyed the luxury of some electricity (while it lasted) to make some great coffee that was provided. We really enjoyed hanging out with the Emus and Chickens and taking in the sweeping views at sunset. Loved our stay here!

This off grid cabin was everything we could have hoped for! The cabin is about 1km from where the car gets parked but Helmut was so kind and thoughtful, transporting us and all our stuff to the cabin on our schedule and making sure we had everything we need. The cabin has everything you could need in the absence of electricity (candles, lanterns, bbq, French press, battery operated outdoor shower).
The property the cabin is on is so peaceful with endless trails to explore. It is walkable to the beach (~1km) if desired. However, Helmut’s appreciation for nature is contagious, making you not want to leave the property anyway. Helmut gave us an unforgettable experience showing us around the property and sharing his knowledge of the landscape and how to interact with it sustainably.
The bugs were bad this time of year (end of June) and you always have to be prepared to encounter wildlife. But neither of those things could dampen the incredibly enjoyable time we had at the Owl’s Nest. We want to come back and try staying here in every season!

A place “for those who seek to find a way to leave the world behind”. The Owl’s Nest is a perfectly secluded rustic getaway with everything you need to get cozy in nature. Off-grid, beautifully silent other than bird calls and rustling leaves, with clear paths for wandering and an abundance of wildlife. Be aware that it would be a fair hike to the beach, with a creek to wade through - but Helmut is willing to provide a lift if desired. Also, kitchen equipment is basic so if you’re planning complex meals you may want to bring along things like steak knives, salad bowls, serving spoons, cutting boards, and a coffee press. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will recommend it to anyone.
