Welcome to Elk Island Getaway!
Elk Island Getaway is located 20 minutes east of Edmonton and 7 minutes from HWY 16 main entrance of Elk Island Park, Alberta.
We are also right by Elk Island Park, in addition to being an important refuge for bison, elk and more than 250 bird species, it is a great place for all your hiking, picnicking, biking, canoeing and kayaking needs.
When you enter Elk Island National Park you will know immediately that you have entered an oasis of calm. For years people have come to the picturesque park to escape the city life, explore the outdoors and connect with nature.
Come and experience the dark sky preserve in our area that features an amazing opportunity to star gaze and to view the Northern Lights.
We have 8 campsites available for tent, van, small motorhome, and small trailers.
Some sites accommodate large trailers.
Our group site is sites 7 and 8 please inquire if interested in this option.
We offer firewood upon *availability* for sale at an additional cost of $20 per bundle of Tamarack wood. Please note that supply may be limited at times, as well as our availability, so we recommend placing your order early to ensure availability.
Pets welcome on leash and owners are responsible for clean-up.
This is a camper-maintained campground.
Please take your trash with you at the end of your stay.
Pack it in, pack it out. Inspect your campsite and rest areas for trash or spilled food. Pack out all trash, leftover food, and litter.
There is a toilet available for campers to use but no other amenities.
Our sites offer picnic tables and firepits.

Our home includes two goats, eight sheep, about 50 laying hens, 7 ducks, and a red footed African Tortoise. Campers are invited to feed the animals and collect organic eggs, with us, for breakfast.
Bring your own tents, trailers, or RVs. If you're bringing an RV/trailer, the site requires levelling and can accommodate vehicles up to 49ft in length.
We have moose and deer visiting the meadow regularly and many birds call our land home.
This property is a nature lovers paradise and only 30 mins South East of Edmonton and Sherwood Park. Hastings Lake borders our land and water access for water sports is close. Elk Island Park is 26 km away.

We have 4 sites that can accommodate up to 7 people each. The sites are in the open but have some protection and privacy provided by the trees. We have a fire pit, wood supplies, and a picnic table so you can enjoy your evenings by the campfire.
During your stay, you are invited to walk around the property to see our farm animals like goats, sheep, and chickens. If you’d like, we can even show you how to collect freshly laid chicken eggs, tend to a garden, or bird-watch all of the marvellous birds that fly about our property.
If you’re looking for adventure nearby, there’s wonderful hiking at Elk Island Park (30 minutes drive) or bird watching at Beaver Hill lake and hiking . The sites are all easily accessible by traditional cars and no special vehicles are needed. We have alpaca products & a variety of gifts for sale - such as: hats, mittens, socks, insoles, scarves, yarn, & raw fiber. We accept donations towards the health maintenance of our animals, as well. Payment accepted by cash or electronic transfers (e-transfers) in either currency of Canadian or U.S. dollars - NO exchange rates will be offered (U.S. dollars are the same value as Canadian dollars).
We are close to several local towns with full services - including hospitals, gas stations, water & sewage removal stations, grocery stores (West Edmonton Mall), restaurants, etc.
Pets are welcomed - dogs &/or cats, however they must be on a leash, cleaned up after, well behaved, and MUST BE PRE-APPROVED FIRST before request is confirmed, depending on their age & breed.
We are putting together for overnight campers, a multi-cultural recipe cookbook which will be shared on our website. We hope you would like to share either a menu item which you cook while travelling or something you make at home with everyone.

We have a garbage disposal, outhouse, access to water at the main cabin, garden plots available to rent, access to the Iron Horse Trail for quads, river is close by and are numerous other lakes for swimming, fishing etc. There is a Sani station a few miles away, store, car wash, gas station, liquor store and several restaurants. Laundry and groceries are 15 minutes away.

The property is very picturesque. And the alpacas and llamas are of course adorable.

Beautiful, serene, quiet, very well maintained. We could see every star in the sky, and it is so close to Elk Island Park, it made sightseeing easy! A lot of coyotes at night - mind your pets and bring ear plugs if you are a light sleeper - that was the only sound we heard. Would highly recommend this spot.

We had an amazing stay at this campsite! The area is very private and surrounded by beautiful fall colors, it honestly feels like your own little getaway in nature. The place was clean, quiet, and relaxing, perfect for a peaceful weekend escape.
The owners are wonderful people! They are responsive, and easy to communicate with. They made sure everything went smoothly from check-in to check-out, and we really appreciated how organized and welcoming they were.
Highly recommend this place if you’re looking for a cozy, private, and scenic spot to unwind!

Beautiful place, cute goats and welcoming owners. We were notified that the place was not ready for us yet, as we booked a place a bit too late. Making the host ( Rachel and her husband) worried that it will not be up to our standard. Matter of fact, it was beyond our expectations regardless. They provided us with a nice grill, water and a clean table, they even wanted to give us some fresh eggs! Hope to come visit soon again, as we were not able to thank you in person. Thank you very much!

Great Site and hosts! With only being a short drive from Edmonton, this is a hidden gem. Kara and Dan are quick to respond to inquiries and requests. The grounds are clean, well maintained, and vibrant. The water feature is aerated so the is no stagnant water smell. The wood totes are of a good size for the cost and come with some kindling. The wood was cut into good size pieces and dry! The farm fresh eggs were some of the best eggs I've had in a while with large yolks.
The campsites are well spaced out with some co-located for groups. There is obvious signs of improvement and tree planting which speaks to Kara and Dan's dedication to being great hosts.
I camped with a large group and a dog which needed 2 sites. Kara and Dan made great suggestions which improved our experience.
I look forward to booking next season.

Our recent stay at this campsite was truly fantastic — the warm hospitality, beautiful grounds, and attention to cleanliness made it special from start to finish. The hosts were welcoming and friendly, and we especially loved meeting their pets, who added an extra touch of comfort and fun to our visit. Being surrounded by nature’s calls—rustling trees, squirrels, and birds—made us feel completely at one with the outdoors. This camp area is everything Hipcamp sites should be plus more! Beautiful, freshly mowed, private sites. Away from the main house, quiet, peaceful, with a picnic table for ease and comfort. Lovely walk around the mown paths around the pond and beyond. We loved staying here and would have liked to have stayed on longer. Excellent in every way!
