McDonald Farm sits in the historic farming community of Jonah, TX between Georgetown and Taylor on scenic Highway 29. McDonald Farm is named after the patriarch of the family, J.H. Mcdonald, who first acquired the property in 1911. The farm sits on the bank of the San Gabriel River and features a lush canopy of huge pecan trees, sprawling corn fields, prairie, and forest. We are a working farm! We primarily grow corn, but we also have livestock on the property. During daytime hours, you will likely see a variety of farm chores being completed. We offer a self-serve farm stand for our customers with fresh eggs, jelly and even pasture raised chicken - all produced on the farm. We are only 7 miles from the Georgetown, TX historical district and square. Some say it’s the most beautiful town square in all of Texas. Enjoy shopping, dining, and festivals! There is road noise. Highway 29 can be busy at times, despite being a two-lane road. Quiet hours are after 10 pm Sunday - Thursday and midnight Friday and Saturday. Access to our river site is included in your camping fee. This secluded hike-to (~ 1-2 minute walk) site is peaceful with limestone cliff views and no visible homes or signs of civilization. The trail head is accessed by a dirt road that winds around our corn field and into the woods, and can be accessed by any vehicle in normal weather conditions. We will provide warning/refunds if the river road becomes 4x4 only. Fishing is allowed with a valid Texas fishing license. There is no overnight camping on the San Gabriel River. All camping is at the main farm area and campers are able to come and go from the river site as they please (day or night!).

Welcome to McDonald Farm! Tent camping is dispersed, so you are able to select a site based on your own needs. This can range from the flat, elevated area that we allow RV's to camp on, to a smaller, tucked away site with more shade. Site selection is first come, first serve! Guests will have access to our hot showers and porta potty. This site also includes the use of our day use site on the San Gabriel river for swimming, fishing, picnicing, and hanging out. The river area has hammocks, chairs and charcoal grills for you to use. Bring your own charcoal. There is no overnight camping on the San Gabriel River. All camping is at the main farm area and campers are able to come and go from the river site as they please. Not all sites have shade, so we recommend bringing a pop up canopy. Great spur of the moment overnight!

This is a farm. For those that enjoy dispersed camping, this is it. No one else there so I had the run of the place. As described, I was met by the owner as I came up the drive, got a quick property tour and history, met the new baby pigs, was greeted by chickens and the old brown farm dog that came to check on me a couple of times. Fire pits were located throughout the property with plenty of firewood around for the choosing. Very clean portapotty. They have showers but I didn’t use them so I can’t comment. The main drawback is the proximity to Hwy 29. As noted in the description, it is not unnoticeable but by about 6:30 or 7, it calmed down a lot. I was just there on a spur of the moment , quick, overnighter to check the place out and to field test a couple of new pieces of camping equipment. It’s only a 15 mile trip from my home, so nice and easy. I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone. I’ve had a couple of questionable Hipcamp experiences, but this was not one of them . I can say I’ll probably be back the next time I need to get out or to put a new camping toy to work.

Charming weekend at the farm

My friends and I had such a lovely time at the McDonald farm. The hosts were incredibly kind and communicative, and even gifted us spiced pecans from their land, which were delicious. Being around the farm animals was such a treat (we even got to meet two day-old baby piglets!), and the swimming area was sooo refreshing and calming. A couple things to be mindful of: the property is quite close to a busy road, so you can hear some traffic noise. It didn’t ruin our experience, but it is helpful to know if you’re looking for total quiet. There is also no table at the campsites (that we knew of), so definitely bring one. The kitchen and coffee area were not available during our stay, though it seems like it may be opening soon. Overall, we had a wonderful time and there is so much to love about this charming farm. Btw - make sure to stop at the farm stand...the whole chicken and mulberry syrup were DELICIOUS! Thanks so much :)

Another great camping adventure at McDonald Farm! Once again, hosts went above and beyond - gave us a flat repair kit and let us use their compressor after getting a flat on our way there. We loved gazing at the stars and sitting around the campfire. Free firewood is a huge plus. The sound of the river made it that much more peaceful. The dogs loved the sounds, smells and exploring. They even got a taste of the recently butchered, farm fresh bacon. We couldn't resist buying more bacon, some bratwurst and homemade mulberry syrup! We love it here and you will too!

A perfect family campsite. I took my 6 year old who loved running around and watching the animals. There is a gas station a few miles away and Walmart within 15 minutes. The river area is very private, with nice hammocks. The hosts are very gracious and warm. Can’t recommend enough for families with young campers.

Perfect Boondock Spot Near Austin

Macdonal Farm RV camp is an absolute gem! The location is perfect just a short drive from Austin, making it super convenient yet still peaceful. The facilities are spotless, with super clean hot showers that felt amazing after a long day. The farm itself is beautiful and full of friendly animals: adorable chickens and pigs, and our favorite a sweet horse named Ginger. The owners were incredibly welcoming and went above and beyond to make us feel at home. It was the perfect boondock spot for our canper van. The ground was level with plenty of open space, giving us privacy while still being close enough to hear a bit of highway traffic in the distance. The highlight of the night? The biggest bonfire we’ve ever seen, thoughtfully put together by the owners. It made for an unforgettable evening under the stars. Highly recommend this spot. We’ll definitely be back!

We loved camping the primitive site by the river. The trail to get there was short and clear, the views were beautiful. Getting in to the river was easy and they have a ladder you can enter. There were conveniently chairs and fire pits and charcoal grills available. We enjoyed exploring the river but couldn’t float as the river was extremely low and shallow. Water was hot due to it being summer but it was still fun! Host was very polite and helpful!!

This is our 2nd time here and it was another great day! The McDonalds are so communicative and kind, the site is clean and a great way to spend the day on the river.

I loved the great scenery of the farm, getting and getting welcomed by the chickens and rosters. It was awesome to have a spot to shower as well. Buying fresh eggs from their farm was also a nice bonus before we left the farm. The lake was so peaceful and the water was at a great temperature to jump into or fish at.

We loved our first camping experience at McDonald’s Farm! We had a group of all ages and everyone enjoyed it. There was so much space and a lot of animals for us to see and enjoy. We even had our dogs with us and it went great they loved the land! Communication was also super great with them and it made our experience so much smoother. We will definitely be back soon and many more times! Thank you for everything.

What an incredible place! We definitely made some core memories here with our boys. The hosts went above and beyond to make sure we had a comfortable stay and the check in process was a breeze. There are showers and a portopotty, which was impeccably clean. We loved seeing all of the animals and even picked up some fresh eggs for breakfast! The river site was something out of a book. It was cool in the shade with a nice breeze from the river. Our son went fishing and caught a beautiful bass along with several other fish! We will most definitely be back! Thank you both so much for an amazing camping experience!

We had such a great time at the McDonald Farm!! The location was beautiful and there’s river access within walking distance. The hosts were extremely kind and welcoming to all of us. Additionally, the other campers were very nice as well. The showers were awesome and felt very clean. They provided delicious coffee that we had every morning and fire wood for our fire pit for no extra cost!! Very generous and sweet hosts. We’d absolutely visit again!

RJ and Samantha were attentive, responsive hosts. The property was beautiful and close to the San Gabriel River. The camp kichen and showers were a great feature. And I got to meet their horse Ginger! I recomend it.

We had the best time at McDonald’s Farm! From splashing in the river to hanging out fireside this is the spot! Our kids loved seeing the pigs, chickens, and horse, as well as exploring the property. The hosts were amazing! They had a great spot for making coffee set up for us and always were quick to answer questions and assist our group. Thanks for a great weekend!

Tent camping made easy! Lovely spaces to choose from. Literally a farm! Horse, chickens, pigs!! Outdoor bathroom & shower available. Beautiful areas by the river, just a small hike. Definitely will come back to stay by the river! Extremely informative and friendly host. So worth the drive. Lovely drive to Georgetown if you forget anything. Thank you for the peaceful and serene experience, we loved it.

The views amazing, and I really enjoyed seeing the farm animals. The land is so green and beautiful, it reminded of me of back home in Tennessee. I appreciated that their land connected to the San Gabriel River, so that we could easily go back and forth! I absolutely adored that they had a coffee station with a charging area, a shower station, and a port-a-potty. They also sold their own farm fresh eggs, jam, and hot sauce which you can pick up from their curbside stand at any time. They also have campfires and provide you with fire starting wood. Really enjoyed our stay here and would definitely recommend!

My pups and I couldn’t have been happier with our stay! The experience exceeded my expectations. We loved how much thought and consideration the hosts put into everything. The description was accurate and informative and the host was friendly and accommodating. We enjoyed the private river access. It was peaceful and rejuvenating; we will definitely stay here again! My dogs didn’t want to leave. We saw a few snakes, carp, raccoon and deer by the river but bugs were not an issue. Cell service (T-Mobile) was a little spotty at the river, not bad though. The outdoor shower was nice to be able to clean up after playing in the river with my dogs. Definitely check out the little farm stand while you’re there! There were fresh eggs and jellies for sale when we were there.

Had a great weekend! Hot showers, clean porta potty, and plenty of firewood for us to use! Owner was super helpful and accommodating. We enjoyed the fresh eggs they sold that we cooked for breakfast. Would definitely stay again.

McDonald Farm’s RV Boondock
This is my second time hosting a retreat at the McDonald farm, I’ve never felt more comfortable with a host. Samantha goes above and beyond to make sure your experience is amazing. This weekend it was raining when we arrived and Samantha shuttled some of the guest over to us so their cars wouldn’t get stuck and helped them with their luggage. The other host upon arrival was extremely helpful as well and eased any concern I had with the weather before I even had to ask. I’m so grateful for their kindness and Samantha’s quick and easy communication. The land is so beautiful and literally my favorite spot out of Georgetown and other surrounding areas. I will never not go back to the McDonald farm, I can’t wait til next time !

We loved McDonald's Farm! Beautiful space with infinite firewood and it was so fun visiting the different animals. The roosters can be a bit loud at any time of night but not a deal breaker depending on which site you're at. There is a two lane road nearby that you can hear but you get used to it! The host met us when we got there and gave us a thorough run down of the place and was readily available via text if we had questions
