Indigo Eagle Sanctuary is an incredible place to experience the abundance of nature in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Our Sanctuary features two main areas: Mountain Tops, or Creekside sites. Immerse yourself in beauty and adventure, with waterfalls, a rushing creek, fishing, and camping. Our creek properties include the Creekside Cabin, and Waterfall Haven (multiple camping site options, with their own areas by the creek). Guests have room to explore the mossy wonderland along Hornbuckle Creek, take a dip in a swimming hole, take an adventure and follow a rough trail (at your own risk) to another waterfall, accessed across the creek, or just kick back and relax. (Note to guests: Trail has not been maintained since last year. Go at your own risk.) Our mountaintop options include Eagle’s Nest and Songbird Campsites. These two sites provide breathtaking, long-range mountain views and epic sunsets. They are great for quick get-aways, with ease of access to main roads/highways. Indigo Eagle Sanctuary Sites are located within a few miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway, Cherokee Reservation (museum, shops, dining) and Maggie Valley, a quaint mountain town with more shops, food, and entertainment. Nearest grocery stores are Ingles in Waynesville, or Food Lion in Cherokee. The popular Asheville is about a 50minute drive from our Sanctuary. Plenty to explore here, while being able to unplug and unwind.

Stunning views.
One of the PRETTIEST campsites I’ve ever stayed at. GPS is tricky-if the road requires 4WD….. you went too far. Beautiful views-exactly as posted. So quiet, all you can hear is nature. I definitely recommend. Nice and flat, plenty of space.

Beautiful View. Great Location!
Getting to the Eagles Nest site was easy following the Googlemaps GPS Note, the pics are of multiple sites. This review is for Eagles Nest. Directions. A 4x4 is recommended especially if the ground is wet. The site itself is great. Nice large space with an amazing view. The large table is nice for setting up a cook or gear station. The outhouse is nice and private but ladies beware, the bucket is smaller than the hole so you have to be careful or better yet, bring your own bucket, bags and toilet seat and put it in the outhouse. There's no running water, or electric like the add mentions but if you have solar options, you will get plenty of light at this spot. The 3 spots here Eagles Nest (top), Owners private spot (middle) and Songbird (lower) all have a great view. Now if you are a little loud late in the evening, the 3 sites are within close proximity of eachother so you might be able to hear your neighbors if they are loud but you shouldn't see them unless your driving down. The owner was friendly and responsive when we messaged. Check out the trails in the area. There's a hike a few min. away to a crashed plane site, a hike to a waterfall and we took an offroad trail (about an hour drive) through the forestry land to the Cherokee Casino area. If you have an UTV even better but we did it in our Jeep.

Great site with an epic view
Amazing spot. The view speaks for itself. There didn’t seem to be anyone around so we felt nice and isolated. I can see how getting up to it might be a touch scary in a car, but on a dry day you might be able. It was rainy and my 4WD pickup truck had no problems. Getting there with the address in the listing (325 Parkway Drive) in google maps made it an easy find. Just up the steep dirt road and look for the sign with a big 1 on it. Thanks for having us!

The view is exceptional, use address provided and GPS takes you right to the site 1. I was able to make it up the dirt/gravel road to site 1 with front wheel drive only, but might be difficult if roads were icy or muddy. Area was quiet the two nights I was there, and sunsets were beautiful!

Awesome campsite, plenty of space & level ground. Road getting there was a little scary, just a small curvy gravel mountain road, would recommend 4x4 especially in the winter when roads are icy!! But awesome site once you get there & the view is worth it !!!

The view at Eagles Nest is the most spectacular camp site view I’ve seen in North Carolina. Sunset hike at Waterrock knob, day hike to Blackrock knob, Soco Falls, Elk Veiwing in Cherokee/Cataloochee Valley and even got our Christmas tree! This whole area is a really amazing and we had an awesome time. Thank you Indigo Eagle for letting us stay on your property!

Fun trip
Really pretty place. The tipi was fun. Suggest not relying on the cots and stay warm! Def have 4 wheel drive if you want to make it out if that valley.

Pros and Cons
This was an amazing campsite with a few downfalls. I tried to go more in depth but was limited in my length so I’ll get right to the point; have a 4WD vehicle if expecting inclement weather. Difficult to find but it’s also at the top of a mountain so you can see the entirety of the blue ridge mountains (worth the trouble). This site would not fit 10 people but comfortably 5. If bringing small children, be mindful.. you are on a cliff side; we could not turn our back on our 18 month old for a second. Firewood is not provided but grates for cooking over the fire is, there is also a nice weatherproofed table present for preparing food. Outhouse provided for privacy but buckets of previous visitors excrement was still there. Place was covered in trash. Including a flipped, broken table and a broken side cabinet.. why it wasn’t removed is beyond me. Located in Maggie Valley but 20-ish minutes from Cherokee. Plenty of recreational activities; hiking, water falls, swimming holes, and local shopping. If cleaned up a little better I would return and suggest it to my friends/family.

I went up to indigo eagle with a buddy for my birthday. The view was amazing and we even ended up hiking down to a nearby waterfall which was very cool. One thing I can say is if you are planning to go during colder months bring a winter tent haha because we didn’t.

Incredible Campsite!!
Incredible campsite! One of the best we’ve been to. Amazing views, nice setup w/ fire pit & swing, and close to some great hiking (we recommend Waterrock Knob which you can use to get to a plane crash site! Google for trail directions, it’s very cool!). About an hour from downtown Asheville. We could hear noise from the large group campsite down below. Didn’t bother us at all but something to note. Important Navigation Note! We originally used the pin (coordinates) listed in the itinerary - DO NOT use this - the navigation will take you to the wrong location using down rough and narrow roads. Use the address that’s listed on the listing page (325 Parkway Drive, Maggie Valley). We drove a Honda civic and had no problems getting to the site when we used the address instead of the coordinates. Some of the previous reviewers must have used the coordinates because those roads were very difficult in a car. Recommendation for the owner: change the site location to the address you list on the listing. From the renter perspective you can’t see the address on the itinerary. We had to go to the public listing (the page you would use to book) to find this.

Best View You Can Ask For
This site was perfect. Plenty of room for a large camping group and the best view of the smokies you can ask for. It almost didn't seem real to wake up and look over the valley without having to hike or travel anywhere. Plenty of room for cars and we had 5 tents set up with more than enough room to toss a football, play games, etc... Would love to come back again.

The views from the campsite are stunning but make sure you ask for directions as those on the site do not take you to the same location as the address the host provided. Host was very nice when I reached out you just need to be proactive. ♡

Waterfall Haven Camping
Bad experience at this site. The place is really run down. Look like it hasn't been up kept in years. We reserved 2 nights and only stayed 1. Beautiful location but felt like I was in a homeless camp. We reached out to hipcamp and requested a refund and was denied. Now these sites are $50 a night. Pictures they post are worth that but only worth like $10 in real life. Definitely not worth the $ or aggravation.

Incredible Views
The views were breathtaking. One of the best campsites I have ever been to and I definitely plan to go back. It really is hard to describe how awesome the views were. With that being said, there are additional campsites nearby and when they are playing music loudly, it does take away from the calm and serene surroundings. Not sure if there was a quiet time that campers were supposed to abide by, but the campsites quieted down by 11pm. Another note, GPS does not get you exactly to the pin that the host provides once the reservation is confirmed. I would advise sending a message to the hose after booking for more detailed directions to the site.

Gorgeous View/ No on bathroom
If your looking for a spectacular view I highly recommend. We had stayed at site #2 on the very top of the hill and backed the truck up to the edge making a little truck bed sleeping area. The stars were so amazing then to wake up to the view of mountains in the morning was even better. NOW BE AWARE, make sure you pack toilet paper, and a portable bathroom. DO NOT USE THE PORTA POTTIE. YOU WONT MAKE IT ONE SECOND IN IT. THIS IS NO EXAGGERATION. The porta pottie on site hasn’t been maintained at all, there’s mold growing in it and the poop/pee has been in there for a hot minute. The smell is absolutely terrible, like no other. If you don’t believe me then that’s on you if you wanna find out lol Now the wooden one at the site ontop of the hill isn’t terrible, it’s just a bucket with a toilet lid but atleast it’s somewhat clean and don’t smell like something I never wanna smell again lol

Great view, easy access
Nice level and sunny spot. Plenty of room and great views. Initially I did not know what to except based on the reviews of the roads and 4WD requirements. None of that was an issue. The road is a gravel mountain road. Went up in the pouring rain in 2WD drive with a factory height pickup. Could easily go back in my wife's car.
