Sunset Knoll Sites on Big Bar Lake

Went at the end of the season and there was nobody else there, it was very peaceful and the lake is beautiful. Hosts were super accommodating and friendly, will definitely book here again!

Amazing location and beautiful views! I really loved the covered area since I was tenting it provided great shade during the heat wave. Coming from out of province it was a bonus they offer firewood! Due to the heat wave didn't need alot but the crate was enough for a little fire each night I was there. Hosts were very help! Had a minor issue with a neighbour and their dog being loose and roaming my site. Where my dog is reactive I wanted to avoid any issues and she responded immediately and contact the neighbours which I was very greatful for!

I love the place , my family enjoyed our stay for 2 nights. The site was very spacious for a big family. Ms. Katie was very accommodating and response quickly to my inquiries. The only thing disappoints us was our fellow campers near the lake, they were not respectful about quiet time they were shouting and singing loud with their loud music until 2am for 2nights. They even had bonfire even if there is a FIRE-BAN during the 2nd night. But over all we enjoyed our stay and will come back again.

The view was amazing! It's a nice quiet spot with a good area for swimming and kayaking/canoeing. The kitchen area was set up nicely.

This place was amazing! When I first arrived, I had the whole area to myself — I spent the afternoon reading at the end of the dock and playing fetch with my dog. As I was cooking dinner, a few other groups arrived. We were all spread out with plenty of privacy, but it was also nice to chat with a few fellow campers. The site was spotless, and the outhouses we’re clean and well ventilated. I really enjoyed disconnecting and being offline, but just a heads-up: there’s virtually no cell service on-site, so make sure you’re prepared for that. All in all, a peaceful and memorable stay. Highly recommend!

Our family had a great stay at Katie and Melissa's place. We stayed in the Woods site which is nice and spacious for our two tents. The running water was a bonus. The lake is absolutely blissful. The kids had so much fun on the paddle boat and kayaks. Despite being full, there was no issue with space to hang out down at the water. We'd love to come again!

We loved Katie’s campground. It was so serene and beautiful! The lake was swimmable, the bugs were minimal and the water toys were so fun to get to utilize! Everything was clean and well marked! Katie’s communication sealed the deal as she was kind and so helpful when I made errors in booking etc! We would love to make it a yearly trip!

The Woods site

Beautiful spot with views of the lake. Easy to get to. Lots of space. Outhouse was nice and stocked with toilet paper. Took the canoe out on the lake. It was a good time. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Make sure to bring bug spray and or thermacells there were lots of mosquitoes and horse flies. Luckily we were prepared, so they didn’t bother us too much. I will definitely be coming back. Thanks!

We enjoyed “the lookout”. Planning to book “the knoll” next time, so our dog can stay in the water as long as she wants! Sites were quite private, washing water supply was handy, directions were easy. Overall would book again. Thanks Katie and Melissa!

Heaven on earth!!!

Unbelievably beautiful spot! This place is an absolute gem!!! The site is overlooking Big Bar Lake with georgous turquoise blue water perfect for paddle boarding, kayaking, swimming etc. The campsites were clean, spacious and very private. Hosts Katie and Melissa were super chill (thank you both!) I totally recommend this place, I'll be visiting again for sure 😊

Awesome Sunset Knoll

I don't know if my words could do justice to Katie's place (The Sunset Knoll), we enjoyed the whole week we stayed there (We wanted to extend it but was already taken..), any kind of weather in front of the lake and that awesome deck just above it was magical, Katie was extremely kind with us and answered all of our requests very fast, we're definitely going back this year and will be on our top 5 list from now on. It was an amazing experience and the views were incredible. I had no real issues, there were just one other group on the property they were loud till 1 am on our second night but I can’t blame Katie for their behaviour. We my wife and I followed the “rules” as requested which were pretty simple lol I would and will go again A great place to relax and enjoy

Absolutely loved my stay at this Hipcamp! The site was clean, the directions were super clear, and the host was incredibly kind and responsive—honestly one of the best hosts I’ve had through the app. The facilities were extremely well maintained, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable. The space was pet-friendly, which was a huge plus, and I really appreciated the cozy string lights on the deck—they added such a nice touch in the evenings. The highlight was definitely the canoe; being out on the lake with those stunning views was truly breathtaking. Highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for a peaceful and memorable getaway!

We loved staying at the sunset knoll! It was hard to tell from the pictures but (in my opinion) this is by far the best site! You’re the closest to the water and sit directly above it with an awesome view / shelter (which was awesome in the rain). Theres also a direct path down to the water directly from your site. I wasn’t sure how the communal docks would go on a long weekend sharing them but couldn’t have been smoother! Everyone was respectful and it felt like everyone had a good amount of time each on the docks. Disclaimer for folks with dogs that may be reactive to other dogs this might not be the best set up for you. There was a red retriever that roamed around (who my dogs loved playing with!) but just a callout for others who may need more space for their dog :) we had an awesome stay and def hope to be back!

Loved the site, it was quiet and private. The amenities were just enough to make camping with kids easier without being too glamp-y. Directions were clear and we were able to find it without issue even at 10:30pm. Would definitely visit again when the weather is a bit warmer :)

My second time back here and the site keeps getting better! The view from the knoll is simply divine, hosts are helpful, and the privacy is nice. We took the canoe for a ride and had a great time on the lake. I'll be back again ❤️

'Paradise' gets thrown around quite a bit when describing nice places, often hyperbolically. Describing Katie and Melissa's property on the shores of Big Bar Lake as a slice of paradise, however, would be completely accurate. On the lake, with multiple docks and numerous watercraft to enjoy, hammocks to lounge in, a cow trail that leads into the neighbouring provincial park, and each site having good privacy with ample room for multiple tents / small campers, all make leaving the Sunset Knoll a tough thing to do. The drive out to the property is enjoyable and on a dirt road suitable for any vehicle (but watch for livestock as it's an open range). Katie is very responsive to any messages, and it's clear a lot of love has gone into creating such a great spot. I would surely stay again!

The site was well maintained, loved the common area deck on the lake. Big bar lake is gorgeous and warm. Great for those with dogs as Big bar provincial site will not allow dogs on the beach or playground. We have already booked our next trip to this site.

Truly a retreat

I wish that I lived closer so the Knoll could be a regular place to retreat to! From the start - communication was great. The road in was longer than we had realized - it is between the 37 & 38 markers but is 34kn. If you see the sign for Provincial Park you’ve gone a smidgen too far. We arrived at sunset…and wow! Definitely worth the ride! Everything was as described and as the positive reviews already shared. The sites are far enough apart to feel private. The Sunset Knoll site is extra special with the view and covered pavillion which we were grateful for on the rainy day. We used the canoe and kayaks, and also went into the Provincial Park for their nature walk which we highly recommend. There were definitely mosquitos, bring a screen tent if you have one. If I didn’t live in Oregon in the States I’d already be planning my return trip. I’ll just have to visit again in my dreams.

Great place to visit for a camping trip. The camp site was well kept and all the sites are close to the water. The Lake is very clear and enjoyable to swim in. Would recommend this camp site.
