Whether you want to bird watch, kayak, fish (catch and release only), hike or ride one of the many trails or sit, relax and read your favourite book, we promise a warm welcome; from the wildlife and the proprietors Tracie and Jimmy. Dam Crazy is also pet friendly, dogs must be cleaned up after and may be walked off leash on the walking trails (please be mindful of other campers, farm animals and wildlife), they may also swim in the dam but must be contained or kept on leash in the campsite areas. The dam is very deep and could have snags washed down in floods, so we suggest children wear life jackets, and MUST be supervised by adults at all times around the water. Buxton Bush Retreat is a privately owned parcel of 17 acres located 7 kilometers (6 minute drive) from the quaint seaside village of Buxton. The front 5 acres is 'home' to Kerrie and Brian, their two puppies (Jazz and Jaxi) and two cats (Bangers and Mash). The remainder of the property (about 12 acres) comprises of flat, well grassed areas and natural bushland. There are eight(8) well maintained, large, flat camping areas and each has its own fire pit. An initial supply of firewood will be provided. There is no water or power throughout these camping areas, hence they are only suitable for "fully self contained" motor homes and caravans. Apart from humans, dogs and cats, the property is inhabited by kangaroos and a variety of birdlife. The small township of Buxton is home to a mixture of permanent residents and holiday homes. There is one general store which sells most consumables, including alcohol. They also serve up meals every Wednesday. Buxton has a great little boat ramp on the Isis River which provides easy access for river fishing or to the Coral Sea for ocean fishing. So, if you're looking for a clean, comfortable QUIET and relaxing campsite with not too many people around then Buxton Bush Retreat many be just the place for you. This property was everything we wanted and more. We spent a very busy week down SE QLD so we were looking for tranquility and that's what we got. The only campers there for our two night stay which is exactly what the doctor ordered. The tree swing was a bonus. The cows were very inquisitive licking our van and solar blanket but very cute to see many calves and plenty of wildlife. Beach was only a 5 min drive and the nearest pub only 15 mins. We will definitely be back in 2026. Thanks Camille for opening your property to us 🙏

Great spot, fantastic dam for swimming and a paddle with free kayak use. Love the jetty and boat shed! Beautiful grassed campground but be prepared to do some leveling if you are in a caravan on some sites. Can't comment on toilet's as we are self contained so didn't use those facilities.

Such a gorgeous spot!! We had an incredible time camping at site 2, plenty of space from other campers! The toilets were flush toilets, with running handwashing water and soap, very clean! Our dog had the best time watching all the activity, going for leash free walkies on the hiking trail and having nice big swims in the dam! We also had fun with the complimentary kayaks! Owner is super nice and welcoming! This will definitely be our family camping spot from now on!

Situated close to the highway this was the perfect Hipcamp to use for our trip south. Despite only being a short distance from the turnoff this property does make you feel like you are in the woods. We were lucky enough to meet the lovely family who are creating this Hipcamp and can’t wait to see what they do in future. Kids loved the sandpit and play area. Goats, cows, chickens which the kids also loved and got to feed and the beautiful walk to the fairy garden. Would stay again.
