Before the Kerr Scott Reservoir was built, in the 40's and 50's, this neighborhood was a local swimming hole and vacation area. Public buses came from neighboring communities so people could boat, swim, camp, and picnic. While we don't have access to the pond, our part of this land still is calling out to people, 'Come, rest, unload your burdens, and find peace.' When we started this project with Hipcamp, we didn't fully realize that we were reconnecting with the history on this property. So, come, take your shoes off, and wade in the creek. Read a book while laying in a hammock. Sit by the fire and chat with family and friends. Come and participate in our little homesteading project, and leave your burdens behind. LOCAL ACTIVITIES: To the west is the Blue Ridge Parkway, which is 30 minutes away. 15 minutes away is Kerr Scott Dam where you can rent kayaks, pontoon boats, as well as other sporting equipment. Fish, go mountain biking on the extensive trails, and hiking. Prayer Mountain is right up the road, about 2 miles away. Heading east, you can find several fine wineries andvineyards that you can visit. There is also a moonshine distillery in town. About a half hour away is an Amish community that has several businesses open to the public, including the Shiloh Bakery and General Store. They are closed on Sunday and Monday. To the northeast, about 45 minutes away, is Stone Mountain. Absolutely fantastic hiking, it is also an old homestead that has been renovated and is open to the public. To the south, there is Rocky Face Park, where there is hiking and rock climbing. Nearby, is Emerald Hollow Mine, where you can go and find, and keep, precious stones you find in the nearby river. There is also a great disk course course, Highland Hills Disc Golf Course, one of the top 25 in the country. There is fun for all ages. Merlefest, the last weekend of April, is a world class Bluegrass festival, is located right in our town. Be sure to look at the activities section below for additional information.

This property is 180 acres of woods and mountains with streams and ponds. Beautiful settings. If you like hiking in the mountains this will definitely hit the spot. YO can fish in the ponds it has blue gills and catfish. I also added grass carp there as part of weed management. This used to be an abandoned farm which I want to bring back to life. The site offers three luxury large Safari Style Tents and 4 Pioneer wagons. All tents are far away from each other to provide privacy and freedom of going Wild (still remaining civilized in your manners and careful attitude to Nature around you). Tent 1 is in the Forrest itself and it is pretty cook and serene. Tent 2 is on the top of a rocky hill overlooking the forest. Tent 3 is the most remote and closest to the ponds. It has most of the open space around it, and can be a great place for parties. We are working on making the sites and the area more comfortable, but I do not want to make it a manicured park. I want it to remain wild and still offer comfortable stay. The farm is work in progress. Eventually it will be an Ostrich farm. and have other animals too. The closest town - Lenoir is about 12 miles away . Closest Grocery store (Dollar General) - about 3 miles away. Closest Gas station - 2 miles away. Professional Tennis court, Basketball court and large kids playground are in a public park within - 5 minute drive. Lenoir has restaurants, shopping, etc. Hickory is a larger town about 25 minutes drive. Hickory Lake is a large reservoir with marina where you can rent a boat and it also offers a good game fishing. Nice swimming beach access on Lake Hickory 13 miles ( 20 Minutes) from here: Lake Hickory Wittenburg access area (Wittenburg Access Area, 175 Wildlife Access Rd, Hickory, NC 28601) Asheville is 1:25 hrs to the West, Charlotte is 1:25 hr to the East. There are couple of Ski resorts 45 minutes to an hr away.

Before the Kerr Scott Reservoir was built, in the 40's and 50's, this neighborhood was a local swimming hole and vacation area. Public buses came from neighboring communities so people could boat, swim, camp, and picnic. While we don't have access to the pond, our part of this land still is calling out to people, 'Come, rest, unload your burdens, and find peace.' When we started this project with Hipcamp, we didn't fully realize that we were reconnecting with the history on this property. So, come, take your shoes off, and wade in the creek. Read a book while laying in a hammock. Sit by the fire and chat with family and friends. Come and participate in our little homesteading project, and leave your burdens behind. LOCAL ACTIVITIES: To the west is the Blue Ridge Parkway, which is 30 minutes away. 15 minutes away is Kerr Scott Dam where you can rent kayaks, pontoon boats, as well as other sporting equipment. Fish, go mountain biking on the extensive trails, and hiking. Prayer Mountain is right up the road, about 2 miles away. Heading east, you can find several fine wineries andvineyards that you can visit. There is also a moonshine distillery in town. About a half hour away is an Amish community that has several businesses open to the public, including the Shiloh Bakery and General Store. They are closed on Sunday and Monday. To the northeast, about 45 minutes away, is Stone Mountain. Absolutely fantastic hiking, it is also an old homestead that has been renovated and is open to the public. To the south, there is Rocky Face Park, where there is hiking and rock climbing. Nearby, is Emerald Hollow Mine, where you can go and find, and keep, precious stones you find in the nearby river. There is also a great disk course course, Highland Hills Disc Golf Course, one of the top 25 in the country. There is fun for all ages. Merlefest, the last weekend of April, is a world class Bluegrass festival, is located right in our town. Be sure to look at the activities section below for additional information.

I want it to remain wild and still offer comfortable stay. The farm is work in progress. Eventually it will be an Ostrich farm. and have other animals too. The closest town - Lenoir is about 12 miles away . Closest Grocery store (Dollar General) - about 3 miles away. Closest Gas station - 2 miles away. Professional Tennis court, Basketball court and large kids playground are in a public park within - 5 minute drive. Lenoir has restaurants, shopping, etc. Hickory is a larger town about 25 minutes drive. Hickory Lake is a large reservoir with marina where you can rent a boat and it also offers a good game fishing. Nestled under a pine forest, Camp KaRuGa is a campground with cabins and campsites near the Blue Ridge Parkway and the New River. Beautiful creek side campsites and primitive cabins each with its own picnic table and fire pit with cooking grate. Camp Karuga offers 1 fully equipped bath house with hot/cold water, electricity and charging stations as well as a family/handicapped bath house. Enjoy the following on-site amenities during your stay in the coolest corner of North Carolina. On-site hiking trails, a pavilion with scenic pond for floating, and a community fire pit. We offer a kayak float from our campground on the New River $60 per person. We also, offer on-site guided horse trail rides through our sister business One More? Trail Riding Stable. If your family is larger than that, please contact us or the booking site to make additional arrangements. Each cabin is generously spaced from the others for a pleasant heir of privacy. Tent sites are also spaced apart with your privacy in mind. Ashe County is offers something for everyone. Beautiful hiking trails are as close or as far as you want to drive to get there. Downtown offers an experience in walking back in time with a small town feel that is unmatched. Delicious eating experiences are available from country cooking to fine dining. Camp Karuga is also perfectly situated for traveling to Boone, Blowing Rock or Banner Elk without the exhaustion of a long drive. There is so many wonderful experiences around Camp Karuga that it will be hard to choose from. Located in the tranquil, natural woodlands of our historic family farm. There are 30 acres of hiking trails with remnants of what once was an 80 acre old fashioned family tobacco farm. There are plenty of level areas covered in lush grass and surrounded by trees as old as dirt! The Honeymoon Sweet provides an indoor experience. It was built by my Uncle Frank who cut the wood off the land and milled it into the lumber he needed to make this unique, rustic space. There is a rock fire pit with lots of easily accessible firewood. You can hang out and enjoy mother nature or visit one of the many local tourist attractions like Pilot Mountain State Park, historic Mt Airy with it's charming small town hospitality, Hanging Rock State Park in the Sauratown Mountains affords breathtaking views, hiking trails, waterfalls and fishing. The property is 4.66 acres at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains, only 1 mile from the largest recreation area (Doughton Park) on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Longbottom Leaves is a working permaculture homestead. We have two creeks, a (swimming) pond, an off-grid house, a cob pizza oven, a fruit-and-nut orchard, a huge vegetable garden, and over three acres of forest with walking trails through them. We are only 4 miles from Stone Mountain State Park in North Carolina. Hiking and fishing are fantastic in both Doughton Park and Stone Mountain SP, and Stone Mountain also has rock climbing routes. In addition, we are less than a 30-minute drive from about a dozen or so vineyards. Elkin NC is about 40 minutes east, Wilkesboro NC is about 40 minutes south, and the Blue Ridge Parkway is 20 minutes away. We--Emma and Jonathon--live in an off-grid cabin on the property. We both garden and write (travel- and sustainability-type stuff), and we are happy to share info about the property and stuff to do around the area.

Super cute cabin! Had everything we needed for the weekend even a s’mores kit!! Host were extremely helpful when we got confused with the lock box. The view was great watching the sunrise with the fog over the trees, plenty of paths to walk if you don’t wanna go to the Stone Mountain trail. We wanted a quiet place to elope with some of our closest friends we got that and so much more. Check out was super easy would definitely recommend for a quiet romantic getaway or even a small family vacation! Pet friendly accommodations for the bestest of pets. I don’t know how much more I can recommend, if you’re on the fence take the leap you won’t regret it in the slightest. We looked a so many other options but ultimately kept coming back to this one every time and glad we did! Thank you so much to the amazing hosts for having us and allowing us to have this moment here it will never be forgotten

I loved spending several nights in the treehouse. I came prepared for colder weather so I had plenty of warm clothes, hand and feet warmers, and propane for the buddy heater and Coleman stove, both of which I used and appreciated. It rained during part of my stay which was magical on the tin roof. The creek babbled. I found dry firewood and kindling prior to the rain, and paired with firewood I brought I enjoyed several campfires. The water accessible pump/kitchen came in handy as the treehouse doesn’t have water or electricity. The attached compostable toilet was convenient and never smelled funky. The cabin is stocked with all the kitchen things you might want for cooking. There were plenty of blankets and I slept snug as a bug in the comfy loft bed. I did rescue a spider or two and released into the wild. As expected for a treehouse in their habitat. Parking for one car was convenient atop a walkway to the treehouse. I enjoyed a farm visit with Elizabeth and learned about her goats horses and more. Her dogs came to visit a few times. Overall I couldn’t have been more happy. It helped to come prepared for the cooler weather paired with Elizabeth’s thoughtful touches. While there are solar lights in and around the cabin, make sure to bring headlamps and/or other light sources. It felt whimsical and dreamy and I can’t wait to return. Thanks Elizabeth!

Cute cabin with amazing views! If you are lucky enough to catch a sunrise, it’s breathtaking. Make sure to follow the written directions if coming in at night, as turning around if you go too far is a bit tricky. Space heater kept the place toasty and cozy. Lots of trail access near by!

A really special stay. We were a group of friends from different areas and we loved staying here. Some of us camped and some stayed in the little cabin. The owners can’t be nicer. They’re responsive with communication and every detail is thought out. We had a toddler with us and she loved visiting the animals (horses, donkeys, chickens, goats…) BRP is about 40 mins away, and Boone is 50 mins away. Very convenient. We would love to come back.
