We are a small hobby farm set within a mature forest setting. There are two, newly built tiny home bunkies that are situated in private areas of our property, yet close enough to our main house for security, Each bunkie has a modern outhouse with composting toilets and non potable water for washing Guests will have the opportunity to commune with nature as we have a multitude of bird species and there is always good possibilities of wildlife viewing, as guests stroll down the nature trails. There are plenty of very cool areas along the trail where guests are able to participate in forest bathing/meditation or can just relax and listen to the wind rustling through the leaves of the trees. We have a couple of very gentle horses on our farm, that if anyone wishes, can schedule a time meet them and do some therapy grooming. There is also a small flock of egg laying hens that are quite social. We have a small on site store, which has some beautiful wood crafts that are created in our woodworking shop. Live-edge wood tables/charcuterie boards and other beautiful pieces as well as a large display of gorgeous healing crystals and metaphysical items are available for purchase if that's your interest. We are less than a 10 minute drive to Bobcaygeon, where you can find the world famous Kawartha Dairy, scrumptious restaurants, specialty clothing boutiques, grocery stores and pharmacies. Sturgeon Lake is the predominate lake with fabulous fishing/boating/ swimming. A 20 minute drive will get you to Fenelon Falls, Buckhorn or Kinmount where you will find the famous Kinmount Movie Theater that have the latest movies available. The little cabin in the woods. Fairytale setting and birds that make anyone feel like Snow White. Amazing hosts and tranquility beyond expectations. Very clean, and close to Bobcaygeon and Fenelon Falls. Would recommend this for anyone wanting peace and unplugged time away.

Weekend Trip to Spirit Ridge Acres

Overall we had a fantastic experience at Angie and Arnold’s property! Angie and Arnold are excellent hosts, they welcomed us with open arms and made us feel right at home as soon as we arrived. From helping us carry our bags to our bunkies with a wagon, showing us the animals on their farm, and sharing a campfire with us, we felt truly grateful for them. The bunkies themselves are also great. Everything was spotless and it had everything we needed. Even the composting toilet was way beyond my expectations. No smell, perfectly clean, and non-potable running water to wash hands with! The location of the property is also ideal. Close to town but far enough to have very little cell signal and truly disconnect. There was just enough signal to get a text through, which is all we wanted. Was great to be able to drive about 15 minutes to Fenelon Falls and about 10 minutes to Bobcaygeon, we were able to enjoy the shops and get lunch during the day and come back to our cozy bunkie for a bbq dinner and campfire. We’re definitely going to be back, it’s truly excellent spot for a weekend getaway.

8 nights at Spirit Ridge Acres

The bunkie at Woodland Hideaway is really, really lovely. It is nestled nicely in the woods (a mostly cedar forest), within a short walk to your parking and the hosts’ home. Angela and Arnold were excellent hosts and checked in on us frequently enough for us to know they cared and were taking care of us, but not too much that we felt our space hampered. Would highly recommend staying here.

Where to go

Algonquin Provincial Park

Enjoy the nearly untouched woodlands of Algonquin Provincial Park, just 50 minutes away from Bancroft. As Canada’s first provincial park, it’s home to giant moose, racing rivers, quiet ponds, and scenic hiking trails that traverse its 7,600 square kilometres. Explore interpretive walking trails and canoe or kayak river rapids. In the winter, try dog sledding or summer camp in the wild backcountry. Nearby campgrounds and RV parks are available year-round as well.

Egan Chutes Provincial Park

Waterfalls and old forests fill Egan Chutes Provincial Park. Drive 15 miles from town to enjoy popular park activities like hiking, canoeing on the York River, and birding. Hikers can also find both easy and moderately challenging hikes. Then, try nearby cabin rentals, RV parks, and campgrounds offering convenient amenities like restrooms, firepits, and picnic areas.

Petroglyphs Provincial Park

Home to the largest concentration of the country’s indigenous rock carvings, Petroglyphs Provincial Park also offers pristine forests and famed blue-green waters at McGinnis Lake. Campers can peruse the carvings of humans and animals at The Teaching Rocks while hiking the surrounding landscape. Although the park does not offer camping or cabin rentals, these accommodations can be found nearby or back in Bancroft.

When to go

Campers enjoy visiting Bancroft year-round. Although summertime is popular, each season offers outdoor fun. June through August is peak camping season, which is complemented by activities like swimming, boating, and hiking. While winter and spring attract fewer campers, there are still plenty of activities and campsites in operation; though it’s important to monitor the weather and possible road closures due to snow. After summer, autumn is Bancroft’s most popular season with its colourful foliage, fall festivals, and farmer’s markets.
