Escape to 13 acres of peaceful Pacific Northwest forest where the Columbia River meets towering trees, and stillness replaces the noise of everyday life. Wake to bald eagles calling overhead. Spend your days hiking wooded trails, watching river traffic, or listening to waves lap the rocky shore. Gather around evening fires under the stars, surrounded by nothing but wind in the trees and the quiet you've been craving. This place is great for: - Solo adventurers and couples wanting private, self-sufficient camping - Artists and creatives seeking inspiring retreat space - Meditation and forest bathing groups drawn to collective quiet - Scouts, clubs, or church groups seeking authentic outdoor experiences - Intentional small gatherings—low-key family reunions or friend groups united by peace, not parties There are three distinct areas to Hidden Pillar. Creekside and/or Riverside camp site bookings do not include access to structures at the cabin. - Off-grid cabin with wood stove, composting toilet, solar power, outdoor kitchen with basic supplies and grill, picnic shelter, and group camp (up to 10 tents) - Creekside primitive camp on a bluff overlooking the river—secluded, wooded - Riverside clearing with picnic table, fire pit and river views—most accessible site including access for some RV's All sites include access to on-site trails, shared Columbia River shoreline access, and portable toilets. What to Know Before You Book The cabin sleeps 3 adults comfortably and has basic amenities inside: bed and futon with bedding, chairs and table, games and a small library. The outdoor kitchen includes two picnic tables, a gas and charcoal grill with burner, basic cooking equipment, and dishes for 8. Propane and wood fire pits are included. Camping at Hidden Pillar is a primitive, off-grid experience: - No electricity; no running water - Bring all water or purification system; pack out all trash - Gravel roads are steep and rutted—high-clearance vehicle recommended for cabin and Creekside access Hidden Pillar Retreat provides easy access to Southwest Washington Coast beaches, historic river towns (Skamokawa, Cathlamet, Astoria), Julia Butler Hansen Wildlife Refuge, and excellent boating/kayaking.

Riverside Camp is your accessible base camp with sweeping Columbia River views. This grassy clearing offers the easiest access of our three sites while maintaining the peaceful, off-grid experience. Ideal for families, small groups (up to 6 tents), and our only Class C RV-accessible site. Not suitable for larger RVs. Amenities: Picnic table Fire pit (bring your own firewood) Large grassy clearing for up to 6 tents Portable toilet (near parking area) Creek access for water (purification required) Stunning river views Parking for up to 4 vehicles at upper lot; 2 vehicles permitted to drive down to tent area. Activities: Hiking, birdwatching, river watching, fishing, beach access (easiest access between the two pillars across the road), stargazing, exploring nearby attractions. 45 minutes to Astoria; 60 minutes to ocean beaches. What to Bring: Everything you need for primitive camping including tent(s), sleeping bags or hammock(s), water or purification system, all food and cooking equipment, personal items, rain gear, garbage bags, bug repellent, headlamps, firewood (collecting tinder/kindling from downed wood permitted; tree cutting prohibited) Vehicle Access: This is our only site accessible by low-clearance vehicle, though road can be rutted. Class C RV accessible for adventurous souls. Up to 20' travel trailer accessible for adventurous, skilled drivers with 4x4 tow vehicle in dry (not muddy) weather. Important: No electricity, running water, or showers. Park nose-in or back-in along the road; do not block road. Pack out all trash.

Your secluded primitive camp on a tree-lined bluff overlooking the Columbia River. This wooded site offers maximum privacy and immersion in nature—perfect for couples, solo campers, or small groups (2-3 tents) seeking a wilderness experience. Amenities: - Picnic table - Propane fire table (propane provided) - 2-3 grassy, level sites for tents - Portable toilet (short walk from campsite) - Parking for 1-2 cars (short walk from campsite) - Creek access for water (purification required) - Trail access - Columbia River views Activities: Hiking, creek exploration, birdwatching, river watching, reading, meditation, stargazing, rocky beach access across the main road What to Bring: Everything you need for primitive camping including tent(s), sleeping bags, water or purification system, all food and cooking equipment, personal items, rain gear, garbage bags, bug repellent, headlamps, firewood (collecting tinder/kindling from downed wood permitted; tree cutting prohibited) Important: High-clearance vehicle HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Steep, rough road. Park in designated area 100 feet from campsite (space for 2 vehicles, no trailers). Short walk (under 5 minutes) to tent site on uneven ground with creek crossing. CAUTION: Steep, dangerous dropoffs—keep children in sight at all times. Site is under brittle alder trees—seek shelter away from trees if windy. No electricity, running water, or showers. No RV/trailer parking. Pack in everything; pack out all trash.

The cabin is your cozy off-grid refuge with room to spread out. The cabin sleeps 3-4 adults (full bed, futon, and cot) and features a wood stove that heats the space quickly. Outside, a covered picnic shelter houses the outdoor kitchen and protects your gathering space from rain. Amenities: - Cabin with wood stove, comfortable seating, table, games, guitar, and small library. Off-grid solar system provides limited power for lights, charging phones, and laptops. - Covered picnic shelter with two picnic tables and propane fire pit - Outdoor kitchen: dual-fuel grill (propane/charcoal) with single burner, dual burner freestanding propane cooktop, cast iron cookware, essential pots and pans, french press, dishes/utensils for 8, basic cooking essentials (salt, pepper). - Woodshed with firewood for indoor and outdoor fires. So many deer! Not a single mosquito! Lovely view of the water! Riverside camp was easy for little kids and they loved being able to go down to the water and look for agates. We had a group of 10 and everyone had space.

This place was absolutely stunning! Great flat spot to camp with a gorgeous view of the Columbia and access to a sweet little beach. Very clean toilet. Saw a sweet family of deer and ate fresh blackberries! We will definitely be back!

Cabin, Picnic Shelter + Group Camp

This property has potential, but there were some issues. The cabin is lacking proper stairs or handrails which made it very precarious for my elderly father going in and out. Additionally, the solar set up was not working properly and the place was pitch dark inside and out. Update your batteries and get better solar friendly LED lighting that will illuminate the space and not drain your batteries. Thankfully I brought some lighting and a 1500w Jackery, so we did OK but had I known, I would have brought more lighting options. There is a surveillance camera overlooking the yard and cabin, which felt very intrusive and creepy. I understand wanting to see who’s coming and going, but I fee the placement of the camera could be better to serve that purpose without creating a surveillance state for my camping trip. Creepy. Additionally, there was co start industrial noise like a large generator or heavy equipment and backup beeping sounds that could be heard day and night, into the early AM. Bring earplugs if you value your peace. I do think this property has potential, but I personally wouldn’t book it again.

Hidden Pillar Buyout!

Our Hidden Pillar campout was such a magical time. The beach access point is a stunning place to hang out and take dips in the surprisingly warm water. The cabin was cozy and we greatly enjoyed hanging out between the cabin and the clearing just below. The riverside camp was the perfect place to store all our paddleboards/kayaks, etc. for use throughout our stay. Creekside camp is best accessed from the roadway on the way up, or if you're looking for a trailhike, the trail from cabin to creekside is fun and totally doable, but I wouldn't call it simple. Overall, we couldn't have had a better time and hope to book again next year!

This was the perfect site for my wife, dogs, and I. Incredible views and great seclusion. If you don’t have a 4WD/AWD and some clearance I could imagine getting there would be a bit difficult but once you’re up the hill off the road you’re there!

This was the most beautiful campsite I have ever camped at. Well worth the price and probably worth even more. Definitely not an easy on off because you have to drive down a dead road for a long time but still worth it. I wish I could stay there forever. And Alyssa was so nice and so attentive. She made sure the porta potty was clean and stocked with toilet paper and hand sanitizer. My dogs were off leash most of the time, but I kept a close eye on them because we did find some suspicious scat in the campground. Overall, I would highly recommend this to folks. It pains me to do so because I want it to be my secret campsite always, but for Alyssa’s sake I want to tell everyone. If you were considering this campsite, book it.

Amazing site with a beautiful view and completely private camping, if you don’t wanna talk to people, see people, or hear people this is a great site for privacy. Only downside is that the portapotty was in fact covered in ants, so definitely not friendly for those with a big phobia of bugs. Would not recommend to those with mobility challenges, as you are 100% going to have to hike along a trail, including around a small creek with wet rocks while carrying things.

Enjoyed my evening on Alyssa's land! The road going up has very, very loose rocks. She was very clear that you need a good vehicle to navigate this and my 2-wheel drive car struggled a bit, so heed her warning! Chatted with an unbothered juvenile buck for a bit and really enjoyed the view.

Quiet, secluded spot nestled amongst the trees. Plenty of space and distance from the other camps. Waking distance to the beach. A bit of a trek to the site from your car, so it’s better to pack light. Would recommend for those looking to get that private forest camping experience!
