Sun Farm Hawaii @ Koko Head

Staying at the Sun Farm was great! We camped at multiple spots around the island, and they had the most hostel feel to it! The charging options on site with a fridge was perfect for our last night before leaving, as we we were able to have things available to use the next day. Hot water in the showers and our site was right next to the office. We were able to participate in the Sun Farm tour and we HIGHLY recommend! If we visit the Sun Farm again we would like to explore their cabin/tent options for sure!

Best spot to camp on Oahu!

Camping on the farm was a delightful experience! Would highly recommend. All the extra amenities (hot shower, bathrooms, outdoor kitchen) made our experience so much nicer. It was an excellent place to meet new people; other campers and volunteers were all so friendly. P.S. Waimea their puppy dog was an absolute sweetheart.

Site 3 - "Koko Head" Camper Van Site

Camp Host Marcos is a great guy who’s willing to do what it takes to make everyone feel comfortable. He took the time to get to know a little about me and went outside the normal SOP to accommodate me instead of sending me away. The grounds are well kept and gives the feel as though you’re camping in the middle of a jungle. Thanks Marcos for the stay in lieu of me being a little out of sorts.

A lovely site with great staff and amenities. There’s a full kitchen which was really nice and 2 hot showers, also fantastic. Easy to find. I stayed in a campervan and you’re a bit close to other tent campers but that’s pretty clear prior to booking. Good location near Koko head and the city if you’re into that.

Nous avons eu un extrêmement beau séjour à Sun Farm, c’est une très belle femme avec énormément de produits de différentes sortes qui poussent dans les arbres, l’endroit où nous avons camper était spacieux et il y avait deux cuisines que nous pouvions utiliser pour faire cuire nos aliments. La toilette était propre et bien aménagé. Vraiment ce fut un beau séjour.

Very cool farm with fresh produce, goats, and chickens. Volunteers were kind and knowledgeable, and it was wonderful being amongst all the trees. Other campers were respectful as well, and there's a farmer's market nearby on Tuesdays! Will happily return.

The cutest lil spot ever! It is so beautiful, and we really enjoyed walking through the gardens and the communal kitchen. 11/10 recommend this spot. The only thing that was a slightly bothersome, is if you come here in a camper van, you really don't have much privacy around your site.

I absolutely love this Farm! It has all the components of glamping. Everything is well taken care of and the energy of the people there in bodies the aloha. I live in Hawaii and I would come back here to camp any day.

Large 'Big Island' Yurt Canvas Tent

This is a paved section with three spaces nose to tail with camping immediately to the right and all of the open air office spaces to the left. Site 1 is closest to the bathroom (and 3ft from the road you come in on) which is not far down a dirt/broken concrete path. Site 3 is less than 10 feet from a giant table where they were holding some kind of loud staff meeting that ran after I wanted to go to sleep. The tent next to me was coughing so loudly it could be heard inside the van. There was a dog barking at birds, roosters, goats. I gather that a small community lives here full time since there are signs for private residences, and there was zero privacy in any of the three spaces as everyone walks past the left side. They had a tour group come through as well. Yes, I use 32db earplugs. I would absolutely stay there again, but it isn't what I needed in that moment, which was peaceful spot away from the city/people noise. The spots aren't level front to back or sideways, not the worst, not the best, but if you can level, do so. Site 3 has more shade than Site 1 or 2. They have two hammocks out, which I enjoyed. There is a full-sized refrigerator and freezer that has labeled shelf space. There is a washer and dry for $7 usd for both. The instructions on the use of their laundry soap where unclear. I kept running into them cleaning the bathrooms at 7:30am which is good that they are cleaned regularly, bad for those of us who are chemical smell sensitive.

The Farm had everything to enjoy Hawaii. It is definitely camping. I would not call this glamping as you do have crows throughout the night lol still enjoyable still fun. Def bring earplugs. Use the prettier shower as the water def stayed warmer way longer. I didn’t get to interact as much as I thought I would with other visitors. Also I traveled alone and felt very safe and I think that’s more than you can ask for.

Loved my first nights stay at Sun Farm so much I booked a second night! Communal kitchen area, hot showers, clean bathrooms, and WiFi! Conveniently located near Koko Head and Koko Crater. Marcos gave some awesome local recommendations for food and sites to see!

It’s a very quiet area really close to the popular Koko trail, 20/30 mins to Waikiki. People are very kind and amenities are good! We went on a camper van and the sites are not 100% flat so be ready to bring some levelers.

Pleasant farm experience

Site A - Own Tent Campsite

Beautiful farm, the yurts are situated right there among the coconut and banana trees. Inside the yurt and the common areas are nice and clean and everything is easy to find. Would 100% recommend the Sun Farm Tour, Elisa was very knowledgeable about all the plants around the farm, I was able to sample a lot of different fruits straight off the tree, and the vegan banana ice cream and fruit breakfast was phenomenal. Ask to try the noni juice, it's not good but it's worth trying once :)

Best camping in oahu

My stay here was a wonderful experience of Hawaii. My dad and I stayed here for 1 week Sept 29-oct4. The staff was friendly and prompt and kept the facilities clean. The farm there is beautiful all the fresh fruit and flowers and trees were a sight to see after waking up. Also the view from our tent was absolutely stunning. Its really simple learning your way around the farm and adjusting to the farm lifestyle. The outdoor kitchen was easy to use and store food. The fruit grown there is available for purchase 😋. My dad and I bought some ice cream bananas and they were really good. We also took 2 noni shots almost every morning to jump start our day. I absolutely loved Londi she was a sparkle in our day everyday. The manager Anna was accommodating and very pleasant to converse with. When I return to Oahu again I'll be staying at Sunfarms. Camping is the way to go in Hawaii to take in all that Oahu has. Definitely rent a car and drive to Hananuma Bay and yes $25 a person is more than a fair price to snorkel this Bay its absolutely magical and less then 10 mins away from sunfarms also if your planning to visit Waikiki use the honolulu zoos parking lot. Its the cheapest we found. Mahalo sunfarms for the priceless memories we hold.

Large "Molokai" Yurt Canvas Tent

It’s in a nice little area and it’s got good facilities for a HiCamp :) clean. You do have quite a small spot, v close to neighbours tents, but it’s nice. Only thing is, I understand it’s a farm and you should expect farm animal sounds, but we had three roosters going off every 1-2 minutes very nearby to the tent area through to 5am - no exaggeration - and was impossible to sleep. Bring ear plugs and you’ll be good!

Overall, a great rustic location for travelers seeking to connect with nature. The beds in the yurts are super comfortable and the site is well kept. The kitchen is convenient and well organized with shelves reserved for each site. My favorite part was the outdoor shower! Also, the location is great for accessing nearby attractions including the picturesque Lanikai beach and Makapu'u lighthouse trail. The main challenge during my stay was when I arrived and the Molokai Yurt Canvas Tent I reserved did not match the photograph on the host profile page as it seems they switched the names around. Confused, I went into the tent labeled Molokai, and it turned out another guest was already staying there so there must've been some mix up in the booking system. Thankfully, a volunteer was available and able to help get the host who ended up moving me into the Lanai tent which was fine. Be prepared to troubleshoot if things aren't right when you arrive as the host uses a self check-in process. Also be warned that the roosters will wake you up at 4:30am each morning. Lastly, the price was slightly higher than the value in my opinion but I still enjoyed my stay.

Chill Vibes for Solo Traveler

Large 'Big Island' Yurt Canvas Tent

I really enjoyed the 'Big Island' canvas tent experience at Sun Farms. The vibe was so chill and everyone kept to themselves but still had a community feeling if you needed something. Traveling as a solo woman, I felt perfectly safe and found it easy to leave things in my tent as needed while I explored during the day. The tent bed was pretty comfortable and found the bedding perfect for my needs with a sheet and light blanket. A fan was provided but I found the natural wind to be enough for comfortable sleeping. I will say there are plenty of roosters crowing in the wee hours from a property next door. I have chickens at my own house so wasn't bothered by this, but could see where others who aren't used to that might need ear plugs. The showers were lovely with hot water and the 2 stall bathrooms were clean and never crowded. I found this place to be healing and nurturing and only wish I had done a tour to learn more about the produce, plants, and trees there. Lovely stay and appreciate how easy it was to book, self check-in and self check-out. I would stay again.
