This property was owned by an Italian family who came to Australia in the 30's. We bought the house in Aug 2021 and fell instantly in love with it and all its quirkiness. The original cottage is still on site and is a long term renovation project for us, it may be old but holds lots and lots of history behind them walls.
The verandah area is yours to use, if you wish, for a bit of extra room to escape the rain or provide a bit of shade (depending on season) it has a powerpoint and light for your convenience.
Unfortunately, as there are building works happening at the back of the cottage we have closed access to the toilet area for your safety at this time.

Horses and small animal experience available, ask on arrival. I recommend booking a walk with the horses the river for an hour.
This campsite has access to a beautiful toilet/hot shower and drinking water supply in the workshop. There is also an outdoor shower in a water tank surround, presently hooked up to the hose. Small camp kitchen with coffee machine, fridge, sink and bench also in the workshop.
Large outdoor movie screen, we generally screen family movies on Saturday night among the gum trees and strings of lighting. Please enquire if you are interested.
Campfires and bonfires permitted in winter. No fire from October to May.
While you're here check out the Greenough walk and cycle track that follows the river. It's only 3km to the beach, and you can walk or take your bike there (bike hire is available in town). We have canoes.
Greenough Settlement/café and Wild Life Park close by.
Pets welcome on a lead. Exercise your dogs on the Devlin Pool track. Dogs are a danger to all our horses, guinea pigs, rabbits and chickens. Off lead without consultation will not be tolerated.
Please be aware that we only have one combined shower and toilet. Some holidays we are at capacity with 10 sites. Caravans are requested to use their own facilities.
Please enter Devlin Pool Rd at the Northern end where it meets Jandanol Rd. We are the 3rd driveway.

The campsite is located on 40 acres, just 10 minutes north of Dongara, 35 minutes south of Geraldton and a 6-minute drive to Seven Mile Beach.
Seven Mile Beach is known for it's beautiful turquoise water and white sandy beaches. You can walk for miles and dogs can be off leash. You can also snorkel over the reef area close to shore, fish off the beach, kayak or just swim.
The campsite is secure and easy to access. You can set up anywhere in the vicinity of the lean-to shed in the neatly mowed area. The area is relatively flat with scattered limestone cap rock. It is easy to manouvre around, even for large vans including 5th wheelers. The camping area is approximately one acre, surrounded by trees.
You’re welcome to walk around the bottom of the property, staying within the boundary of the ring lock fencing.
We reside at the rear of the property in a fully fenced area with two dogs. The campsite is located near the front of the property. There are melaleuca trees/bush between both locations that offer privacy and the perfect setting for a campsite.
You’ll have the whole site to yourself or with your traveling companions. (The site can accommodate up to 3 vans if travelling together). It’s self check-in, and we’ll respect your privacy — the area is yours to enjoy.
Pets are welcome off leash, provided they are under control and you remain mindful of the local wildlife. We often see families of kangaroos, the occasional echidna, and several bird species that love the Melaleuca trees on our property.
There’s a lean-to shed for your use and plenty of great spots to set up your van or tent. Please note you’ll need to be fully self-sufficient regarding power and ablution facilities. There is however a 3000 litre fresh water tank for your use.
During the autumn and winter months, once the spring/summer fire ban is lifted, you’ll have access to a fire pit and firewood for a cozy campfire.
At night time the night sky is amazing, so much to see. Most nights the ocean can be heard in the distance breaking on the reef. Perfect location to rest/recharge.

The property is on the coral coast, Irwin Shire. It is 2km from 7 Mile Beach, 10 km north of Dongara and Port Denison, 55km south of Geraldton.
Camping is on the front entrance of the property only, it is fairly flat land with a high western bush rise protecting from westerlies. The site overlooks the surrounding valley landscape. The access road is fairly quiet.
The property is surrounded by restaurants, north and south, amazing beaches, like South Beach in Port Denison and up and down the coast. There is a wild life sanctuary in Greenough and a Tavern in near by Walkaway. There are also several dog boarding kennels.
In Geraldton north is a very popular international wind surfing community and surfing is well catered for as well.
Bookara is surrounded by organic farms and there is a local goat cheese factory, and many other enterprises.
Up past Walkaway is Denison's pool a local gorge and an indigenous heritage site.
It goes without saying that the fishing is good too.
There are sheep on the property, so care must be taken entering and leaving the property.

The property is on the coral coast, Irwin Shire. It is 2km from 7 Mile Beach, 10 km north of Dongara and Port Denison, 55km south of Geraldton.
Camping is on the front entrance of the property only, it is fairly flat land with a high western bush rise protecting from westerlies. The site overlooks the surrounding valley landscape. The access road is fairly quiet.
The property is surrounded by restaurants, north and south, amazing beaches, like South Beach in Port Denison and up and down the coast. There is a wild life sanctuary in Greenough and a Tavern in near by Walkaway. There are also several dog boarding kennels.
In Geraldton north is a very popular international wind surfing community and surfing is well catered for as well.
Bookara is surrounded by organic farms and there is a local goat cheese factory, and many other enterprises.
Up past Walkaway is Denison's pool a local gorge and an indigenous heritage site.
It goes without saying that the fishing is good too.
There are sheep on the property, so care must be taken entering and leaving the property.
Property next door to the Greenough Village Historical township.

A beautiful, spacious and relaxing site, with quirky art works and lovely, rustic facilities. Sara and Paul were very helpful, friendly and responsive hosts. The river across the track from the camp is a picturesque spot for fishing or canoeing. It's an easy, quick drive to the facilities of Geraldton and the nearby historical township of Greenough is well worth a visit.

Great spot, stayed two nights. Didn’t think about the “lean to shed” too much before arriving but ended up utilising it heaps! Plenty of fresh water available and comfy spot to escape the wind. Rubbish and recycling bins provided which is always appreciated when travelling. The ground looked freshly raked - which was great as there were some double gees around. A fresh plant cutting was even put into a vase. Fairy lights are around the camp spot. Only one spot so guaranteed to be on your own - recommend for sure 😁

This was a beautiful little gem to visit. We stayed for two nights and loved our stay. Sara and Paul were amazing - super friendly and accomodating hosts. We loved the outdoor cinema, the art all around the property and the provision of our own campfire drum. Nice shady spots with great views and lots of space between campers which was great. We will definitely be back again!

We had a great few nights staying at Melaleuca Grove! The campsite is lovely and flat with plenty of space and lovely trees all around. Our boys loved the twinkling lights that lit up on dusk each night. The beach was a very short drive away, where we saw dolphins swimming along the shoreline and caught fish from the beach. Dongara was also very close. Communication was fantastic from the hosts, we would definitely stay again!

Basic camping spot hosted by such a welcoming family. We overnighted on our way to Monkey Mia and it was enclosed, had some shaded spots to setup tent. No toilets but they're not too far from town. Would stay again but for longer stays, I think camping would be a bit tricky without toilet and showering access. Would be great for caravans etc

What an awesome spot to spend a few days - green grass, a portaloo and plenty of space to enjoy the peace & quiet. Also, there are both shady and open spots to choose from.
Anita is an amazing host - warm & welcoming and cared for us so well during Cyclone Narelle.
Highly recommend and we will be back!

We loved parking our caravan at Dougals retreat for 4 nights with our 2 dogs. There is a toilet and shower near the workshop. Lots of quirky artwork around the property.
Sara is a very accommodating host.
There is 2 gorgeous kelpies that are friendly and the horses might let you pat them if you are lucky.
Very close to the Greenough River, 5 mins from the beach and only about 10 mins from Geraldton.
Totally loved it and enjoyed the peace and quiet.

A great place for a camp and I loved how we had the whole place to ourselves. Close to town and not far from Geralton. The lean to came in handy for dinner times, such a good idea!

Where to go
Geraldton & Vicinity
The only city in the Midwest, Geraldton is a great spot to base yourself if you like to be close to the action. Dotted around the city’s CBD and foreshore, you’ll find a handful of caravan parks, holiday parks, and 24-hour car parks, where campers in self-contained motorhomes can stay overnight. If you prefer being on the outskirts, there are plenty of options too, from historic homesteads to relaxing river-front camping areas, where you can pitch up and enjoy all the beauty of the bush, especially during wildflower season.
Horrocks Beach & Port Gregory
Once voted one of Australia’s best beaches, Horrocks is a quaint coastal town north of Geraldton popular with campers and 4WDers. Offering plenty in the way of holiday parks and campsites, it’s a good spot for a bbq and a relaxing camping trip. Alternatively, you can continue on the northwest coastal highway to Port Gregory, where you’ll find funky campsites and caravan parks sandwiched between the rolling waves of the Indian Ocean and the flamingo-coloured waters of Hutt Lagoon.
Greenough & Dongara
While Geraldton is known for its rock lobster, Western Australia’s official rock lobster capital is actually a quirky town called Dongara, which is 45 minutes south. Complete with a giant red lobster, caravan parks, and beaches, Dongara is a great place to set up shop, although there are plenty of accommodation options between Dongara and Geraldton, including Greenough, a living 19th-century ghost town with funky windswept trees.
Kalbarri & Kalbarri National Park
Just under two hours north of Geraldton on the north west coastal highway, the town of Kalbarri is another popular camping spot with a relaxed, holiday park vibe and plenty of accommodation options to suit campers, backpackers, and glampers alike. The jumping-off point to Kalbarri National Park, Kalbarri is a best-of-both-worlds kind of town, where you can enjoy camping on the foreshore and hiking through the dramatic red-rock landscapes of the national park.
When to go
The coastal breeze makes Geraldton a balmy year-round destination, with warm winters and warm summers with a few hotter days here and there. School holidays are especially busy, with campsites around Kalbarri and Geraldton filling up fast in the summer and winter holidays. Wildflower season—from the end of August to mid-October—is also pretty popular, with Western Australia’s prized carpets of wildflowers attracting campers and nature lovers from around the globe.
