Our home is atop a hill with peaceful and serene 360 degree views to die for. The property in Waterloo is a 200-acre working farm with Murray Grey cattle and Cheviot sheep, and, of course, many kangaroos.
We have a campsite available near the house, under a beautiful Yellow Box tree. Power is available if required. Alternatively, one or two bedrooms are available in an independent wing of the house with a private bathroom and toilet.
There are cafes and eateries in Beaufort which is only 10 kilometres away. The town also provides a supermarket, hotel, chemist, hardware store, and butcher shop, with many other spots of interest. The railway station has regular services to Ballarat and Melbourne which take 1 to 2 hours journey. The Pyrenees Wine region is also on the doorstep. A public dump point is available in Beaufort.
Yellow Box Hill is backed by the State Forest so there are ample walking trails, as well as in the Mt. Cole area. Information about the region is available at the Beaufort Community Resource Centre and Library. Gold detecting is very popular as Waterloo was a gold-mining town in the 1850's. Surely, there has been some left behind!

I loved my time staying in the forest cabin! Kelly was great with communication leading up to and during my stay. He had even started the fire early so the place was toasty and warm on my arrival - such a nice touch! Walking the tracks nearby and at Lederderg were stunning, especially with the wintry rain falling all around. The local town of Trentham was also nice to explore. I highly recommend the scotch fillet steak at Pig and Whistle! My personal highlight was watching a wallaby outside my window as we both ate our breakfast. So peaceful and relaxing - just what the doctor ordered. See you next time!

Maxine is such a genuine and kind host, we felt like we were visiting an old friend! She was so fantastic with my two kids, and so generous with her time. She has sheep, cows, cats, dogs, a horse and even a rescue hare! Her four dogs are so friendly and well behaved - when we left, my kids were really sad to leave the dogs behind. Staying at the echidna retreat was extremely peaceful and relaxing, the facilities and amenities provided were clean, tidy and plentiful. Clear instructions were provided on the listing, by the host and on instructional paper in the accommodation.
The views, weather and animals surrounding were beautiful as well as the local towns which were rich in culture and provided plenty of site seeing opportunities. The stars were unbelievable and bright as well. We saw an echidna within 5 minutes of our arrival and kangaroos greeted us every morning before the sun fully rose.
Would highly recommend to any people looking to have a peaceful stay away from all the noise and pollution of city living.

Beautiful and clean. The mini golf was a big hit (no pun intended), and the little quaint indoor stove kept the cabin warm on a cold night. Ian was friendly, communicative, and checked in regularly to ensure we were ok. The block is easy to find, and there is plenty of tank water available. The bush kitchen was cute, and the table near the fire pit was lovely to sit at. The cabin has enough beds and chairs for family.

A great little private cottage located on the rear of the property with easy access to the forest walking trails. We enjoyed 3 nights of peace, serenity and the laughter of kookaburras. Our 4yo loved exploring and discovering native animals and bee hives nearby while our older teens loved the nightly outdoor and indoor fires and accompanying roasts and marshmallow s'mores. Kitchen was well equipped to handle family meal time and the indoor wood heater kept the cottage toasty all night. Recommended for anyone requiring the connection that stems from the disconnect of technology.

We loved our time at The Forrest Cottage. It was bigger than it looked in the pictures, and had everything we needed. Really wonderful weekend escape. My partner and puppy and I enjoyed a farm stay here at Anne Maree's cute cabin. It had everything we needed and was easy to find, the farm grounds are huge and we couldn't even manage to walk the whole property! Friendly dogs on the farm that would visit us. The cabin it Esse was lovely and well presented, heating, comfy bed, kitchen with everything needed and am amazing bathroom with rain shower. The jacuzzi looked lovely but it was raining the entire stay, and it was not working anyway(the owner was extremely apologetic about this, and made up for it, by offering other alternatives and also made us home made scones, lamb shank soup and some other goodies, she didn't need to do this however Anne Maree was lovely and a proper host) this made us feel so comfortable and welcome and we already want to go back!! Hoping the rain is not there and the jacuzzi is fixed the next time we are there, Thankyou Ann Maree for a wonderful stay

The creek is stunning, and so fun for swimming, paddling floating, jumping off the rocks and (attempted) fishing.
The landscape is so beautiful, plenty of space for camping and so much to explore.
We also booked the cabin which was beautiful and the jacuzzi looking out on to the fields was such a delight!!
Anne-maree met us at the gate and was super lovely and comprehensive showing us around and being available if we needed.
Would 100% go back here!!
