We had a great stay at Chris and Philip’s place. They were helpful with answering any questions that we had and checking in with us which was lovely. The property was beautiful and quiet, the cottage was clean and had everything we need including a nice spot of well kept grass to relax on. It was also amazing to see the history and read about and see the photos of the restoration that has been done at the cottage, we truly enjoyed our time here and would definitely stay again.

1 night at Eckert’s Old Place
Loved our one night stay on our way to Flinders Ranges and Lake Eyre from Flinders Victoria. After a couple of nights camping in the ute, it was lovely having a loo to use and under cover cooking facilities of a bbq. We still camped in our ute but enjoyed the gorgeous old stone building to store our clothes and get changed in. The outdoor shower was just a bag warmed up in the sun. The outdoor fire was great to sit around too. We enjoyed chatting to Philip about his poll merino stud.

We had a great time camping over the October long weekend. Was great to have the amenities, flushing toilet, the BBQ and outdoor table. The cottage was quaint, but perfect size for our large group to enjoy camping. Yard was plenty big to spread out with nice rolling hills past crop fields for scenery - adjacent, a farm shed hiding behind some greenery. It is easy to get to, smooth dirt roads from all directions with Burra about 30 minutes away and Robertstown about 15.

Totally charming stay. The view from the deck was blissful and the cottage was set up with everything you need. My Irish husband loved cooking breakfast on the indoor fire and having a view over the fields from the dunny. Five stars. Hope to stay again.

Weekend Trip to Eckert’s Old Place
This is a fantastic rustic place to relax and unwind. Waking up to the valley full of mist while sipping your coffee on the porch was a perfect way to help wash away the stresses of life.

Perfect spot for a group of friends. Room for 3-4 people inside the house and plenty of room for vans/swags. Open fire and fire pit. Heysen trial nearby. Perfect little getaway.

It reminded us of the spirit of early settlers – resilient, grounded, and deeply connected to the land.
Every corner of the home is filled with soul. The vintage décor, timeless furnishings, and thoughtful touches are just old enough to transport you back to a simpler era – when our great-grandparents might have gathered around a fireplace after a long day on the farm.
One of the highlights of our stay was playing board games by candlelight, nestled next to the chimney as the fire crackled gently beside us. That simple moment brought so much joy – it felt like a scene from the past, untouched by time, yet deeply comforting.
The surroundings are peaceful, the hosts are genuine and welcoming, and the experience is one we’ll carry with us for a long time. If you’re looking for a place that celebrates heritage, family roots, and the essence of rural Australia, this is it.

Such a treat to step back in time in this magic stone cottage. It’s delightfully rustic with a brilliant fire place and gentle candle light to read and cook by. Do buy a barrow of wood from Chris as it’s a great mix of kindling and all night burning logs. We loved our two days here!

Weekend Trip to Eckert’s Old Place
Our group was a mixture of tents, swags, camper trailers and cottage users. It was great to be able to use the cottage during what was a VERY windy, cold and wet weekend. The fireplace was amazing and much appreciated. We loved the rustic charm and were pleasantly surprised at the amount of crockery and cooking utensils. Even made a big pot of soup on the open fire.

We had a great time at Eckert's old place. The cabin was very rustic and unique. There were lots of sheep next door and perfect spot for star gazing. It was a little dusty I think that's because Chris said they had little rain over the past months. But still we enjoyed our stay very much!

My two kids and I loved staying at Eckart’s Old Place. Fabulous mix of farm stay and (almost) glamping. So much easier than packing all the camping gear - running water, furniture, cooking facilities, games for the kids all provided. Chris and Herb were fabulous hosts. The old hut is beautifully presented. We also loved the proximity to the Heysen and Lavender Trails, with so much else to see and do around Burra and the Clare Valley - although we were happy mostly staying put. Robertstown pub and post office were a fun outing one afternoon. We hope to come back again when the weather is cooler with a group of friends, to enjoy the outdoor fire pit. A wonderful place to stay.

5 nights at Eckert’s Old Place
We stayed here at Easter over 5 days. The combination of the cottage and being able to camp next to the cottage was perfect for our 3 families. A nice secluded location.
The cottage has so much character and history. It was just what we needed considering the 4 seasons of weather we had over the weekend. You step back in time when huddled around the fireplace in the cottage when it is raining and windy outside.
The flush toilet is added bonus.
It's a great location to explore Burra, Clare, Mintaro or Anlaby Station.

2 nights at Eckert’s Old Place
I've had a great experience at Eckert’s Old Place.
Upon arrival, it felt like time travel to the past and the Cabin was the cherry on top. Chris and Phill are great hosts and have done an amazing job preserving history and retelling the story of that place with such pleasant details, it left me truly impressed.
Beautiful sunrise and spectacular night sky just to make the entire experience even better.
I couldn't recommend more.
