We love our stay! Sharon and Wayne are super kind and helpful! They fed and pet the geese, horses, and cute highland cows! Those cows love banana and liquorice. Wayne gave us free firewoods. The fire and the stary sky made our night! Toilet and shower are close by. The road in front is perfect for a casual walk during sunrise and sunset. Thank you so much Sharon and Wayne!

My friends and I spent a glorious few days surrounded by quiet, rural scenery and gorgeous animals. The cattle were the highlight, but the entire menagerie kept us entertained. The antics of the cattle, sheep and goats were particularly amusing. There was also a lot of land to explore if we needed to stretch our legs. Duane and Chrissy were wonderful hosts. I hope to return again this year.

Clean amenities, tidy camp sites, excellent host, and just a beautiful/quiet parcel of nature. It even has a golf course and air strip inside the property! Riverside camping minus the wild animals! We are definitely going back.

My dreams finally came true and I got to visit these little beauties, my favourite little grass puppies, even hubby is hooked & now see's how cute/cool they are. Seriously brushing cows is very therapeutic & so is just sitting watching each of there cheeky personalities. We will be back camping for sure very soon. My heart is full for now. We absolutely loved our family stay in Cane's cabin, Chrissy & Duane are amazing host.

We had an amazing stay at this campground! The views of the river were absolutely stunning—waking up to the peaceful water and surrounding nature was a real highlight. Surprisingly, there were no mosquitoes during our trip, which made the evenings around the campfire even more enjoyable. We made great use of the boat ramp for some fishing, which was super convenient and well-maintained. The amenities on site were spotless and clearly well looked after, making the whole experience really comfortable. A big shoutout to Kenton, who went above and beyond to help us out when we had an issue with our boat. His friendly attitude and willingness to lend a hand made a big difference and really added to the overall vibe of the place. Highly recommend this spot—great location, great facilities, and even better hospitality!

What a great place to camp and relax. Walking and exploring the property. My highlight was being able to help feed and groom the cows. My grand daughter loved the cows and Guinea pigs. Chrissy and Duane are fantastic hosts, very friendly and helpful. I’m planning on going there again. 5 stars from me.

Chrissy and Duane are the most accommodating hosts you’ll find. You can tell they love all their animals and keep the property immaculate. I particularly enjoyed how the sites are named after all their animals. The quirky shower is great for showering with young kids giving plenty of clean dry space for dressing and showering. We stayed 4 nights at Yellowstone and loved how close it was to Childers and Woodgate beach. Will definitely back with friends in the future!

Family absolutely loved the Highland Cows and all the other animals. Having firepits at the sites was great and Duane brought some fire wood down for us as we didn't bring any. Wife has said we will return, and our travelling partners have said they wanna go back also.

We welcome you to our peaceful farm retreat. Each site has lots of room and a fire pit, there is potable water available and porta loos, shower too made out of a horse float, which is for guests who are not self-contained. Have a look though it is quite cute. We have 7 gorgeous Scottish Highlands, the Scottish folk pronounce it "Heilen Coos" so that's how we say it, I'm not spelling it wrong 🤩😆You'll meet Kelvin the Scottish Highland Bull, Oakley her calf Lucy, Willow and her calf Ferdinand (Ferdi), and our new additions Dusty and Maddi, they can be both fun and relaxing to watch doing zoomies around the yard, swimming in the dam or chilling under a tree 😁 Keep in mind from December to March we have hot, rainy summers. For the adventurous campers who use swags/tents, we suggest a stretcher and a gazebo with walls for a little comfort. Some areas need 4wd also. Check in is after 1pm and check out is strictly before 10.30am, we promise you will get your 'Heilen Coo' fix 😝 We have Souvineers and firewood please bring cash 😍 Be mindful around all animals as they get to know you, be smart please. Kids can bring bikes, must be supervised at all times, no screaming or running. Pets are welcome, we have 2 dogs Jesse and Cane, who are both very friendly. Our Maremma is an Italian breed of livestock gaurdian dog, he does bark a little at night to protect our pets, which goes hand in hand with all of our other farm noises 😉 Our Neighbours have fish farms, you may hear the odd gun go off, just to scare the shags away from feeding in the ponds. It's totally safe. Feel free to put on some music and have a few drinks by the campfire, but we want our farm to be a place where our animals and our guests feel safe and relaxed, so we do not accommodate noisy parties. Relax and unwind with a book or go for a bush walk and listen to the kookaburras. Watch Sea Eagles, pelican, wild budgies, rainbow lorikeet and more. All your cares will feel like they are a million miles away as you soak up nature, we guarantee you will have an amazing experience. 6 Kms in at our historic Childers there is a Woolworths, IGA, great pubs for lunch, cafes and bakeries, plus a swimming pool, museum, snakes down under and Woodgate beach 25 mins away.

Overview

With its golden beaches, cool ocean breezes, and offshore reefs, a Bargara beach holiday affords plenty of outdoor adventures. Head to Kellys Beach to swim, surf, or stand-up paddleboard; watch loggerhead turtles hatching along the beach at Mon Repos Turtle Centre; or tee off at the coastal golf course, then stop at a café along The Esplanade to take in the views. Campers can take their pick of beachside accommodation. Check in to a family-friendly holiday park with powered sites for motorhomes and caravans, seek out a tranquil riverside campground, or get back to nature at a rural Hipcamp.

Where to go

Bundaberg Region

Just a 15-minute drive inland, Bundaberg is home to the famous Bundaberg Rum Distillery and Bundaberg Ginger Beer factory. After sampling the local beverages, enjoy canoeing or fishing along the Burnett River, go birdwatching around the wetlands of Bingera National Park, or explore the bushwalking trails of Elliott River State Forest.

Fraser Coast

South of Bargara, sandy beaches, fishing villages, and national parks tempt travellers to the Fraser Coast. Fraser Island is the star attraction, and there’s great beach camping in the Great Sandy National Park, but you can also set out along the Great Beach Drive (4WD only) from Rainbow Beach or take a whale-watching cruise from Hervey Bay.

Great Barrier Reef

Bargara is the gateway to the southern Great Barrier Reef, where you can snorkel and scuba dive around the islands and coral reefs. Fly out to Lady Elliott Island to snorkel amid manta rays, go whale-watching, or take a glass-bottom boat cruise. Or, for a bush camping experience, cruise to Lady Musgrave Island and pitch your tent at Capricornia Cays National Park.

When to go

The sun is always shining in southeast Queensland, so beach days are enjoyable year-round. Time your visit for November through March to watch loggerhead turtles nesting and hatching along Bargara’s beaches or from August through October to spot whales around Lady Elliot Island. Great Barrier Reef tours are possible year-round, but May to October is peak season.
