Holcomb Valley is a Star Host
Star Hosts are highly rated, responsive, and committed to providing incredible experiences.
Holcomb Valley Ranch invites you to kick back and relax on our private, 400+ acre ranch in the San Bernardino Mountains. Centered around a 100+ acre meadow, filled with horses in summer months and surrounded by thousands of acres of mountainous National Forest.
Just 15 minutes from Big Bear Lake - a large recreational, fresh-water lake for summer swimming, boating, skiing, fishing and other super fun water activities.
The Ranch feels remote and private. Yet is only four miles to the town of Big Bear with shopping and restaurants. Also in close proximity to incredible rock climbing at the Pinnacles, seemingly endless hiking and biking and some pretty epic off-roading 4x4 trails.
Each campsite is approximately one acre, and generously-distanced from neighboring campers. Amenities include its own fire ring with grilling grate and picnic table(s).
The campsites are both cozy enough for 2 or spacious enough for large groups and can easily accommodate a mix of RVs, camper vans and tents.
From June to October the 100+ area open meadow is filled with horses grazing and galloping about (please don't pet or feed!) A four-seasons destination, the Ranch has year-round experiences with warm summers and snowy winters. An excellent basecamp, within close proximity to the lake, ski slopes, Pinnacles, hiking/biking and off-roading trails.
After a day filled with adventure or ultimate relaxation, be sure to enjoy the breath-taking sunsets over the meadow.
The evenings blanket guests with a sea of stars. Toast up some s’mores and warm up some hot-coco over a beautiful, crackling campfire. Remember the s’mores and always follow the “Leave No Trace” principles. There are large trash bins by the entrance.
We look forward to hosting you at the Ranch!
Please note:
OHV’s are allowed. They count as one of the allowed vehicles per campsite and must adhere to the speed limit (10mph) and remain on established camp roads while on the property. They may not be driven from 8pm to 8am. It is strictly forbidden to ride your vehicles through the forest, meadow or off any established roads on or off property. Please research which of the surrounding forestry roads allow for your vehicle type to be driven on. Campsites on the west side of the meadow (F, G & H sites) are partially accessed by a forestry road that does not allow dirt bikes.
Horses: The horses which may be roaming the meadow during your stay are not property of Holcomb Valley Ranch. When horses are present, guests and their pets are prohibited from entering the meadow. Please do not approach, interact, feed or touch the horses. This is for your safety and the safety of the horses. Do, however, take lots of photos! They make a perfect backdrop:)

WHAT SETS US APART: Each campsite is approximately one acre, and generously-distanced from neighboring campers. Amenities include its own fire ring with grilling grate and picnic table(s). PRICING: Many of our campsites are large enough to accommodate large groups up to 20 people. To be fair in pricing to both the intimate small groups of two or three people as well as the larger groups, we have set our pricing to reflect a per person rate. We have a base rate that reserves the campsite and accommodates two adult guests. Each additional guest is $25/ person per night. Kids under 10 years old, dogs, horses and other family pets stay for free!
ACCESS AND DIRECTIONS: Please pay close attention to the driving directions we provide. Your GPS may suggest you take Van Dusen Canyon Road or Rim of the World Drive, however, we highly suggest you take Polique Canyon. It is the most direct. The Ranch is about 15 minutes or 3.5 miles up Polique Canyon, on the left. Polique Canyon is a forestry road. An AWD or 4x4 vehicle is recommended. However, it is passable by both large RVs, towed trailers and small sedans. Just take it slow and watch out for fallen rocks and divots.
CHECK-IN: Between 2PM - 8PM.
CELL RECEPTION: Verizon gets pretty good cell reception at the Ranch. Other cell carries are pretty spotty.
WATER: We have several fresh spring water spigots throughout the Ranch with potable water..
FIRES: Campfires are permitted at the Ranch unless the Forest Service institutes a fire ban in the surrounding national forest or high winds are expected. Firewood is available for purchase on-site (Cash Only). Just ask your camp host for some bundles when you arrive.

Holcomb Valley Ranch offers campers a serene and spacious escape, with many praising the beautiful views of meadows and the presence of horses. The campsites are well-spaced, providing ample privacy, and are close to maintained facilities, although some guests noted occasional issues with water availability. The camp host, Ed, is frequently mentioned for his friendliness and helpfulness, enhancing the overall experience. While most reviews are overwhelmingly positive, it's noted that the roads can be challenging for smaller vehicles, so plan accordingly.
This was our 2nd trip to Holcomb Valley Ranch and it did it disappoint. The campsite is spacious, quiet and well kept. Keep in mind the drive to the campsite is on a gravel and rocks so 4 wheel drive is suggested. It was a short walk to the water source and port-a-potties. Will be back again! Thank you!
Such a beautiful and remote spot for car camping! We loved our location - A2. The huge pine trees were stunning and we appreciated having an acre of land just to ourselves. Seeing horses in the meadow was magical! My kids didn’t want to leave! We also enjoyed fully disconnecting from technology since we had no cell reception.
Def recommend bringing all the water you need for drinking, cooking and putting out the fire pit. Their manual warns that sometimes the water doesn’t work and it wasn’t working while we were there: Thankfully we followed their directions and brought enough for our stay!
We absolutely loved Holcomb Valley Ranch & will be back! We brought our 4 month old Labrador and had a great time letting him off leash and enjoying the outdoors. This place is a gem. Please pack it in pack it out! Leave no trace of your time here to keep it beautiful for all to enjoy. Thank you Ed, our camp host. Watching the horses gallop at sunrise was top 5 coolest things I’ve witnessed! We stayed at site F3.
A hidden gem. Everybody had a blast. We stayed at E1 and had plenty of space for 8 people. We could’ve fit more. Close to bathrooms with hot showers and running well water. We brought a battery for electrical use with string lights, coffee machines, etc and it was some fine glamping. The horses and meadows were beautiful. The manager of the ranch (Ed) came down to personally greet us and toured us around the rest of the ranch. It was a personal touch that made the experience second to none. We will be staying here again for years to come, I just hope it’s availability stays the way it is!
Absolutely wonderful time. Super easy to get to. Very spacious camp grounds. The horses in the meadows were breathtaking. We were blessed with a full moon at night and the sky was like something out of a movie. We will definitely be back.
Our camp site, F7, was in a perfect location: close enough to big bear and remote enough to enjoy a cool night under the stars. There was a fire pit and bench included. We had enough space to choose were set up our tent and park the car. Spigots were available throughout the camp grounds. Host was great!
My fiance and I stayed at Holocomb Valley for the weekend and this is our review. The site in it self (G4) was spacious and had plenty of shade. When driving up to the campground, Ed (host), called us to let us know where to go and what site we're at. As for the road to the site, that was an experience for sure! I drive a Honda Civic so if you're worried if your car can make it - it will, mine did! As we got to the site and finished setting up we noticed there were only portable toilets. The toilets were very clean and did not stink. Please be aware to ask ahead of time which site you are at since sites F, G, and H do not have flush toilet or showers. Additionally, the closest water spigot to our site was a 5 min walk. Overall it was a great camping spot - just next time I'd bring more water and a car that has 4WD.
Really great and well maintained place to camp. Camping is well dispersed, facilities well maintained, and a good road. Very beautiful meadows on one side, and beautiful woods on the other. Definitely would recommend to a friend, and I’m definitely coming back again soon.
Ed’s communication was top notch! In addition to sending us a map, he called to check us in and make sure we didn’t have any questions. The ranch is at the site of an old Boy Scouts campground so there are a lot of cool things to see just by walking the grounds. The site was clean and ready for us when we arrived. It was beautiful and secluded. We will definitely be back!
Let me tell you what .. this was my first time camping ever .. my wife’s has done it before … extremely clean bathrooms ! The f4 camp sections was beautiful . Everyone was so friendly and the horses were so beautiful!! Would recommend
Had a great time at Holcomb Valley Ranch and am definitely looking forward to another stay. Hopefully this time closer to the field with the horses!
The restrooms were well-maintained and cleaned regularly. The host was welcoming and responsive. The forested campsites sit on the edge of a wide open fenced field with horses, making for a great sunset view.
The road up is a bit bumpy and 95% dirt roads, but we saw some Teslas and even a few civics get up just fine. It's also a bit difficult to navigate through the campground at night since there aren't any paved roads. So I'd recommend getting up with daylight to spare or at least some really good flashlights to find your way around.
There was also a good amount of coyote activity, so I wouldn't recommend bringing any pets.
Really beautiful and very rustic! It could use a crew to do a litter sweep, and fix some of the picnic tables and toilets. One of the sections is near a shooting range, which is unnerving. But overall, the property is serene, private, and peaceful. We’ll be back.
This is one of the best campgrounds I have ever been to! The views are amazing, the hosts are super helpful. The campsites are spaced out so you feel removed while also having access to facilities. Would highly recommend!
Wonderful camp ground. Pictures do not do justice. We like cool weather camping and found this gem to try in late June 2026. The temps and weather could not have been better. We will stay here again.
Love the idea of this place! Appreciated the adventurous drive to get there! I think I’d need more amenities (like access to water play or even full fledged bathrooms) on site to make it feel worthwhile.
