Taft Point is located in Gouldsboro, Maine on the Schoodic Peninsula near Acadia National Park on occupied Wabanaki land. It was purchased by my grandmother Janet Orr Strater in the 1940s. Prior to that a family settled the land as a vacation home retreat to get away from city life. For a while it was run for a while as a bnb. Before that the forest here was likely farmland. It was inherited Jeremy Strater who opened it for brief stint in the 70s as a nudist hippie commune during his wildman phase. That's when the A-frame cabin was built, perhaps fueled by some of the mind opening/altering substances of the day. Jeremy later tended to the land, kept in tree growth, as a woodsman.

A place for seekers of peace and solace to gain a better relationship and appreciation with nature in a world that has forgotten the importance and connection we all have with the planet that sustains us. Taft Point is holding space for the organic growth of regenerative community in an insane world. The hipcamp sites here were born in summer 2020 out of the necessity for friends to travel safely during the pandemic, with most major campgrounds closed and/or operating on limited capacity. This is the first step towards sharing and opening up the land to create an ecofriendly, Intentional Community and network of likeminded folks to stay here, from close by and afar who want to connect-- with the land and one another & with those who want to keep in the same orbit of this earth and return to Taft Point/Acadia, and more importantly to co-exist in a harmonious relationship with nature and each other here to experience the beauty here on this earth during season. Taft Point is clothing optional and 420 friendly. When COVID finally subsides join us at our communal fire pit.
A priority here for me is keeping this land pristine and respected. Our mission to save our environment can only be accomplished with the active mindfulness of you. We aim to prove that hipcamp can be a magical experience for private landowners and campers alike, to provide a means of temporal community and beneficial alternative to traditional campgrounds; one that does not degrade the environment and break the peace that small towns still contain. Please be mindful of the trash you generate. Together we are here to be an example to others of what mindful camping can look like in this changing world. Thanks for caring to come, see, explore, learn and being apart of the solution!
