Gorgeous and peaceful escape
This is a gorgeous peaceful site, off the beaten path but easy to get to. There was lots of open space, creek access for hours of fun for our kids (tons of tadpoles!), beautiful trees and the sounds of various birds plus frogs at night. The amenities are basic—a picnic table, fire pit, and a rustic but darn good outhouse, which were all we needed. Stephen checked in each evening to make sure everything was fine, and otherwise left us alone. There’s only one other campsite, in clear view but not too close. We got to relax and our kids didn’t want to leave. Beautiful 1.5-2 mile hike nearby with interpretive signs to learn about the local habitats. Thank you Stephen!
Kids wanted to stay forever!
Stephen's campsites are in a very large field/meadow that line a beautiful creek. There are a couple RVs that look like permanent residents tucked away from the campsite area. Our campsite was between the creek (maybe 50' away?) and a grove of trees, and about 100 yards from the neighboring campsite. The site had a tire swing hung from the tree, which was a huge bonus for my kiddos!
The weather was hot so we spent most of the time swimming and exploring the creek, which was deep enough at times to swim in and shallow enough in other places to just splash in, and crystal clear. The stars at night were spectacular. Stephen was a great host, super nice and communicative but gave plenty of space as well.
The other campsite is far away but there is a clear view to it, so if you're looking for total privacy that might be an issue. It wasn't an issue for us, since the other campsite was so far away.
My daughters cried when we packed up to leave and asked when we could come back, so we will definitely be back!
Fun & relaxing space
We had a great time staying at Stephen's Ranch! It was well maintained, there was space for the kids to run & bike around, and a fun creek to walk along and find rocks, tadpoles, and fish. Host was great about having firewood ready for us and checked-in at social distance (but allowed us space to enjoy camping).
Tips to be aware of:
1. Follow Stephen's directions which were very accurate (unlike GPS that gets you lost!).
2. No cell coverage
