Jug Handle Creek Farm is an absolute DREAM!! I camped solo with my pup, and had the most amazing time. The garden was beautiful, the hikes were incredible, and the cove is absolutely perfect. Town isn't too far so if you need to restock marshmallows (like I did), its quick and easy! Thanks for a wonderful stay. I will be back!

The campground was very easy to find coming off the highway. When we arrived, the office was closed (even though it was after 3:00 pm-the check in time). There was a note on the door saying to fill out the self-registration form in the box to the right, but there were only brochures in the box...We had made a reservation, so we just drove up to the left where the camp sites were located. We had to unlock a little chain gate to get through, but it wasn't difficult! Our camp site (No. 5) was the last one on the road and it was so cute and snug back in the Northern Ca woods. Definitely would go back again.

Probably one of my favourite farms to camp at so far, JHCF had everything I needed. A nice campsite, trails to explore and the ocean only a short hike away. The staff was very friendly and helpful during my stay. Not only is the farm beautiful itself but where it's located is plenty enough inviting if you're looking for a getaway. The ocean is across the street and Fort Bragg is less than 10 minutes by car. I highly recommend staying here.

We had an absolutely wonderful time here. Never actually met the hosts but loved the space, the shared campfire and the accessibility of the beach. Great for camping with kids and definitely a place we will return to. The beach is a short half mile walk through a beautiful woods and also a great beach for families. Thanks so much!

Nice Eco-Friendly campground. Just make sure to pack your trash accordingly, there's no dumpster or trash bins nearby, so you're going to have to take it with you (watch out for leaks in your bag).

There is a presence of wildlife in the area, so just be mindful and scan the environment, don't want to end up being mountain lion dinner.

The campgrounds were lovely, and right across the street from a gorgeous beach. The Ecological Staircase trail provides a great hike from the campground, and there are many other hikes nearby. All of the campsites can support many people, so it's a great campground if you plan on having a large group!

This is a wonderful place to camp! It is so close to the beach and other trails to hike on. It is absolutely beautiful and the farm house also was a great place to stay. We had a large group of people in several sites (3 and 4) and it worked out great. Great fire pits and sink for cooking.

Hipcamper Julia

We spent three nights camping at Jug Handle Creek Farm and absolutely loved it. There was no-one else staying so we had the place to ourselves, but it's so big and the sites so spread out that you would hardly notice other campers anyway. We loved the communal cooking area - so useful to have a sink! We have two young boys who enjoyed running wild in the big field, and there are three great walking trails which lead directly out from the campsite. One of them is an easy 10 min walk to a pristine secluded beach which we visited every day. The site is also midway between Mendocino and Fort Bragg, both within very easy reach and worth exploring. The coastline in this area is stunning! Don't expect luxury camping - there are basic long-drop type toilets and no showers, but if you enjoy plenty of space and seclusion and being close to nature then this is your spot. Highly recommended.

Hipcamper Danielle

Beautiful site with few campsites and plenty of space between so that you are not bothered by neighboring campsites. Very close to great hiking and beaches.

Hipcamper Mike

Epic Spot! You are right on the coast so bring cozy water resistant gear and you will have a great time.

Hipcamper Molly

Great site--all of the amenities you want without spoiling the feeling of seclusion and ruggedness.

Hipcamper Adam

Had a great time camping here over a rainy Thanksgiving weekend, very friendly hosts and beautiful hiking trails just a short walk away. Also nicer facilities (outhouse and dishwashing area) compared to most campgrounds where I've stayed.

Hipcamper Jared

We had a total blast at Jug Handle Creek Farm!
Despite the weather the campground and services were top notch. Warren the host was lovely and went above and beyond by helping us out with our dead car battery (thanks Warren!)
The trails were immaculate and the beach was absolutely breathtaking.
Can't wait to come back in the Summer!

Hipcamper Caitlin

Jug Handle Creek Farm was a beautiful place to spend a weekend. With plenty of space between campsites and a 5-minute walk one way to beaches and cliffs, and 5 minutes the other way to dense forests, it was everything we hoped for. I would love to come back in the summer. 10/10

Hipcamper Mike

Mendocino County is one of my favorite places to soak in nature's beauty. Jug Handle Creek Farm is super easy to find - it's right off Highway 1 - your eye catches sight of the cute red farmhouse on the hillside. At night you are rocked to sleep by the sound of waves from the ocean, which is on the other side of the highway (you don't really hear any road noise). The campsites are spacious so there's plenty of privacy. The check in process was a breeze.

Hipcamper Kathleen

The campground was simple and well maintained- clean outhouse style bathroom and a cooking area with a sink. It was nice to have access to drinking water. The sink and cooking area are right in the middle of campsites 1 & 2- so if you're looking for more privacy, I wouldn't choose those sites. When we stayed, there was a big group in campsites 1 & 2 who stayed up hours past "quiet time" playing loud country music and partying. Not really my scene...if you're looking for a chill place to rest, know that the quiet hours (10pm-7am) were not enforced. The best part of this campsite was the location! Great access to beach and forest hikes. Check out the ecological staircase- it was a beautiful hike!!

Hipcamper Chris

Don't start blabbing to your "friends" what a great place Jug Handle Creek Farm is. You'll ruin it for the rest of us.

Hipcamper Adrian

This was an amazing spot. Although there are 7 campsites on the property, they're spaced out a little bit so you don't get bothered by the others if you're looking for privacy. if you're lucky, you might also find some great camping neighbors like my group. When my friends and I were booking this campsite we thought the trail to the beach and forest would require us to cross the freeway, but this is not true after all. The trail to the beach is pretty nice undercutting a bridge with great scenic views. This is great if you're looking to spend quality time with a group of friends and have access not just to a low traffic beach, scenic forest, but Fort Bragg is a quick 15 minute drive away where you can find some great food, bars, and even the famous glass beach. Highly recommended.

Hipcamper Alyson

Jug Handle Creek Farm was great! The grounds are spacious with both open areas and wooded areas. There are great hiking trails throughout the property. I will definitely return!

Hipcamper Sean

Laid-back, and easy for the first-timer or the car-camping set. The beach is fantastic, but one tip on finding it: Don't go down the staircase, bear left instead and go under the bridge that way...

Hipcamper Tim

We stayed at the campground which was pretty nice spread out area, about 500 feet behind that farmhouse on a dirt road. the camp sites are nice and flat, mostly grass and dirt. it was pretty amazing to hear the ocean crashing at night. met one of the hosts who was very nice, found out they do yoga/massage sessions during the day if you want to book. one thing to know is that because it's so close to the ocean, expect the ground/air to be very WET, which means starting a fire can be challenging without a starter kit. happy camping!

Hipcamper evan

Jug Handle Creek Farm was a beautiful and quiet place to stay with great access to beaches and Mendocino/Fort Bragg area. It was a little too close to town but otherwise a great option for an easy weekend getaway.

Hipcamper Anna

I wish we'd had more time! We arrived at night in the rain, so our campsite was a bit hard to find, but the map was helpful. It was amazing to see the place in daylight for the first time when we unzipped our tent in the morning- so beautiful! We met the camp host Warren as he hiked past our campsite on a mushroom walk. He was extremely kind and welcoming, and even brought us some mushrooms on his way back. We enjoyed exploring the grounds, but unfortunately only really had that morning to experience the place. We look forward to returning to see the rest!

Hipcamper Leilani

We had a great weekend up at Jug Handle! Due to the winter time, our group was the only ones up there, but no rain which was nice. There are hiking trails near by and they have a nice outdoor community kitchen. The hosts are welcoming and will answer any questions you may have. I would definitely recommend staying here, and we will be back when it's warmer!

Hipcamper Erika

The booking was simple, the spot was easy to find, the location was perfect and the plot was spacious and quiet. We enjoyed a nice fire, dinner and tree climbing the next morning before heading south along the coast. Thanks for sharing your space!

Hipcamper Cassandra

What a wonderful weekend spent at Jug Handle Creek Farm! We stayed at Site 3 -- plenty of privacy, a picnic table, and within sight of the awesome composting toilet and community cooking station with drinking water. The site was easy to find (even in the dark), and our hosts were lovely and very helpful. Be sure to grab a map at the office on your way in -- the headlands and beach are both short hikes from the campsites, and the "ecological staircase" is so neat! Will definitely be going back :)

Hipcamper Lena

Campsite was beautiful and had great amenities. The manager was super friendly and helpful.

Hipcamper Meghan

Such a cool spot!! Awesome place to camp and explore Mendocino and Fort Bragg. Will definitely be back!

Hipcamper Nickolas

Beautiful spot (site #2) with everything you need: picnic table, outdoor food prep area with sink and running water. Host was really friendly and accommodating. Great location close to beach.

Hipcamper Hannah

Great campground, friendly & helpful staff, beautiful surroundings and nearby beach!

Hipcamper Goldie

My husband and I spent one night at Jug Handle in March. Although we arrived after dark, the location was easy to find across the street from Jug Handle State Beach and the office had maps of the property on hand outside the front door. Warren was kind enough to open the door for us and explain the layout. We stayed in site 4. It is very wet at night, but there was a nice dry spot under the trees that suited us well. In the morning, we were awoken by the sound of turkeys in the bushes, which freaked out our dog, but gave us a good laugh. There's a foot path to the beach and it was a quick drive into town. We had a great stay and would definitely recommend!

Hipcamper Kathryn

Great location with access to beautiful hiking. Peaceful sites that feel pretty private and a nice communal area for easier cooking. We weren't the only people there but surprisingly no one else used the communal kitchen. Had others used it, it's proximity to my site (2) would've bothered me. Sites 1 & 2 are closest together and right next to the communal fire pit & kitchen. If I have back, I'd stay at one of the other sites. Also if you have pups use tick prevention! That whole area around Mendocino has some serious ticks.

Hipcamper Alex

In a sense an ideal campsite, close to the beach, close to two towns for provision, far enough from cell towers. We liked out Campsite 4 as it gave us choice of sun or shade to pinch tent. Went to Jug Handle Beach one day and did the Ecological Staircase walk all the way to the Pygmy Forrest the next (5m - pick up the free pamphlet at the park parking lot opposite the Farm) A few mozzies in the evening (but it has been wet) , nothing that a touch of repellent did not keep at bay.

Hipcamper Lindsey

Beautiful space! Quiet and fairly private on our night there. Neighboring campers would share friendly waves. Lots of dogs! Wandering around the property was nice and the nearby beach was breathtaking. Firewood was $10 a bundle, checking in was easy and we had no issues arriving right at 3pm.

Hipcamper Patrick

The campsite is easy to find with tons of room for a large group. The beach is a spectacular spot to watch the sunset as well.

Hipcamper Brandon

Jug Handle Creek Farm was a great stay!

The campground is clean and tidy. The landscape is really green and lush so it really is a good taste of nature while still being very close to the highway. Every site has its own fire pit with grill and there's a cool common fire pit for groups to enjoy. They sell firewood for $10 a bundle (honor system money dropbox) which is a nice convenience although a little pricey if you ask me. The common sink area was so nice for washing dishes with potable water too. The toilets were convenient and spacious, but still basic pit toilets.

The camp sites are really nice surrounded by trees and lush forest. In our opinion the sites should really be spread out a little more for privacy. Sites 1&2 are together right near the shared kitchen area, site 3 is awkwardly on the edge of the open field by the road near sites 1&2 (no privacy at all at the first 3 sites, sites 4&5 are almost together with some privacy and sites 6&7 are very close to each other as well with the most privacy overall. It's almost like the sites come in pairs..... However, site 7 is by far the best location and offers the most privacy in the back of the camp ground if you prefer to be out in nature without seeing your fellow campers (that one will be our top pick next time). There's no question that this is a better pick than any state campground we've ever seen.

Our first night (Sunday night we were 1 of 3 total campers) and our second night Monday night we were the only people in all of camp! Pretty nice for an almost summer. Checkin was about as easy as you could ask for - just head to your site.

The walk down to the beach is really nice and there's tons of trails nearby to stroll.

Hipcamper Benedicte

Great quiet campground. Easy access. Great for kids. Lots of little easy hikes around and beach really close by. The only thing missing was the sun this week end!

Hipcamper Chris

Great sites with private walking trails and communal fire pit and sink / food prep area. We had the whole place to ourselves and came with a cargo trailer, and site 4 is best equipped for a trailer / RV. Would definitely stay here again and recommend

Hipcamper Akshay

The campsite was great. Walking distance to the beach and to the Ecological Staircase trail up to the pygmy forest. Also a short drive to Mendocino or Fort Bragg if you need any supplies.

Hipcamper Melissa

We loved our stay at Jug Handle Creek Farm. The Campsite was beautiful - we stayed in Campsite 1 right next to the outdoor cooking area and campsite 2 - and definitely recommend it for a group. The other campsites may be more suitable for one or two people. We also got massages from Warren, which we amazing! We will definitely be back again!

Hipcamper Jason

Incredible spot with a short and beautiful hike to a gorgeous beach <3

Hipcamper leslie

Primative no facilities except pit toilet, exspensive at 45 night

Hipcamper Nick

Great property! The staff was so nice and the campsites were very well kept. Lots of hiking trails and close to town.

Hipcamper Beth

We had an amazing experience here, the pictures definitely do it justice! The Ecological Staircase hike was a particularly awesome surprise. Absolutely plan on coming back next time we want a Mendocino getaway!

Hipcamper Josh

Beautiful place. We camped off season and had a quiet, restful time, alone in the campground...

Hipcamper Sanket

The host was very welcoming and gave us a map of the campsite, the beach and surrounding area. The campsite was well maintained and we didn't find any issues with our quick one night stay.

Hipcamper Madison

such a perfect place! we took hwy 1 up and gaped at the views, stopped at some cute beach town breweries and cafes. when we arrived, we took a 10 min walk to the beach with blankets, beers and snacks.

Hipcamper rian

We had a wonderful time visiting Jug Handle Creek Farm. The land is beautiful, the camping sites were well spaced and the folks there were very warm and accommodating. I can't recommend it enough.

Hipcamper Carrie

PROS: Jug Handle is gorgeous and peaceful, with enough long, easy trails and a quick walk to the epic beach to keep you occupied for a few days. The Ecological Staircase, a phenomenon that I had not heard of prior to coming here on a whim, was so cool and the trailhead is minutes from the sites! Great for studying plants and for bird watchers. No light pollution/great spot for star-gazing. Nice large spaces to set up camp (like, we could have had 20 tents on our zone if we had wanted to). Tons of beautiful lookout points nearby on the PCH, many with beach access. The trail from camp to the beach goes under a beautiful, epic, bridge.

CONS: The sites are a little close to each other so hopefully you don't pick one next to a group that doesn't share your vibe! You will be able to hear your neighbors if they are intoxicated. Can hear cars go by from there on the PCH during the day, but it was quiet after about 9pm and then you get to fall asleep listening to the crashing waves at Jug Handle State Beach. Lovely!

Practical: firewood is available $10/bundle. The common space with potable water, counter tops, and double sink is at site 1. The campers at site one really took over the place with all of their gear- a good thing to consider whether you like easy access to clean water, or if you hate the idea of strangers coming around your site throughout the day. If you set up in camp 1, be conscientious of your neighbors and don't keep all of your stuff spread out all over the common area indefinitely. It's awkward. The outhouse by camp 1 didn't smell as strong as the one between 2 and 3. Fire pits are nice and big and the grill for it is large enough for two pans at a time. We didn't need to use the cookstove that we didn't bring anyway. If you're coming from the south, the entrance is just before the state reserve entrance, not just after it, on the right side. I can't remember if I missed it at first because I didn't do a good job reading the instructions on the reservation email, or if it was because the sign is small and the directions don't say that in them. Bring layers it's mild to warm right now during the day, but chilly at night. Was happy to have my long john's under my jammies.

I had a great, relaxing, chill experience at Jug Handle Creek Farm. You should go if you're already browsing on this page!!!

Hipcamper Joe

JHCF is beautiful and peaceful. The sites are large and quite spaced out from each other. There is a trial from the campsite that leads to a secluded beach 10 minutes away, and a great nature hike. The outhouse and water taps can be a little bit a walk from the sites depending on which one you are at, and the firewood bundles are a few dollars more expensive than other campsites, but you cant beat the location just up the road from Mendocino and the easy access to the ocean.

Hipcamper John

Amazing spot with great camp spots and only a short hike to the beach for beautiful pacific ocean views.

Hipcamper April

Had a lovely time here and definitely would go back again. Beautiful scenery, easy access to the road and beach, quiet.

Hipcamper Rebecca

Jug handle is beautiful! There was only one otger group staying there so we had a lot of privacy. It felt like we were out in our own private forest!

Hipcamper Marc

The campground is well laid out and even when full does not feel crowded. The proximity to the Ecology Walk Stairway and the path to the beach is a great feature.

Hipcamper Julie

Great location! Easy beach access, nice grounds, and you're helping an educational non-profit. Sites 7 and 6 are most private. Sites 5 and 4 are right next to each other. Sites 3 and 4 are across a meadow from each other, so are along the edge, while the others have a more "in the forest feel." Of those, site 3 is the largest of you have more than 2 tents/cars.

Hipcamper Alexandra

Great location! Great site. We were in #7 nestled back there, it was lovely. Woke up the next morning and walked down to the beach.

Hipcamper Emily

A beautiful campground with lots of room between sites. Our family had a great time camping, hanging out at the beach, playing in the creek and hiking.

Hipcamper Alexa

Jug Handle is a really pretty property but definitely more "camp groundie" than other places we've stayed. We were on site 5, which was right next to site 4 (separated by on a few trees). Your picnic table looks right at their picnic table and it's also right on the "road," that runs through the property. While there weren't any cars at night, people do walk down the path right by your tent. Jug Handle Beach is beautiful and the ecological staircase hike is leisurely. It's a nice option for a dog-friendly site but not the *best* in terms of seclusion. Also, the entire campground definitely heard what we think was a mountain lion at night. Way cool, but keep those pups close by :)

Hipcamper Abbey

Great place to stay! Lots of poison oak so careful where you step.

Hipcamper Anne

We spent two very nice, serene nights at Jug Handle Creek Farm. The campgrounds are spacious and quiet with plenty of space between sites--although I can imagine when it's at capacity it might get a bit louder. They do have quiet hours though. The kitchen area with running water and dish washing necessities was a great plus. There are a couple nice nature walks accessible directly from the camp ground including a pathway to the stunning beach that runs under the road, however there isn't much to do within walking distance. If you want to be able to walk to longer hikes/activities from the camp ground this isn't the spot for you.

Hipcamper Susan

We had a great stay here! Great location, right across from Jug Handle State Reserve. Easy access to Mendocino and Fort Bragg also. Each campsite has a standard size fire pit and grill. Map of the seven camp sites available on the website. Dog friendly. Took the trail from the campsite that led to a more private beach, where we watched the sunset. Check in was easy, just stop by office to pick up map and firewood for $10. Would definitely stay here again!

Hipcamper Nutan

The grounds are open and perfect for large groups or a secluded small group. The walking path to the beach is full of exciting things to look at. The orchard is old and inviting and the spot is the perfect in between spot for Mendocino and Fort Bragg. We enjoyed our 4 night stay immensely. We're a family of 3, the little one is 4 and she had a blast.

Hipcamper Jenn

Beautiful campsite, extremely close to both lovely hikes and Fort Bragg/Mendocino. There is potable water available at the site, but there's only one spigot (that we saw), so if you get a site which is further from the entrance, there's some walking back and forth to be done. There are also outhouses, which were very clean and well maintained, but the smell was pretty unbearable (I don't know how one could even fix that, though). Overall, it was a beautiful campground and we were very excited to hike around and explore the nearby towns- would recommend!

Hipcamper Andrew

This site was super well run, with access to great trails and a private beach for sunset. Tons of space and privacy so you're not on top of your neighbors. The fire pit had a great swing grill plus an additional finer grill for cooking up our steaks. Sinks and bathrooms were well maintained and there was firewood for sale on the property. Really nice garden where they grow fresh veggies. It's right off of the freeway, so no crazy dirt roads to drive through. This was our first stop on a 2 week camping road trip and was our favorite site.

Hipcamper nathaniel

Serene, tranquil, outstandingly beautiful. Access to one of the most beautiful beaches and some of the most picturesque cliffs i've seen in my life. Was never bothered, no animals ransacking the site. Quiet, calm and just overall an incredible experience. Truly a gem just outside of Fort Bragg. 10/10

Hipcamper Shawn

It was our little girl's first trip to the Farm & the second for my partner & I.
We loved it once again & we're thrilled that our 5 yr old did too.
It's cozy-chill vibe, proximity to Jug Handle beach & other wonderful natural treasures was sublime.
My only complaint was that we did not have any more time to spend at the Farm. But that, of course, was not the fault of this lovely institution.
Go the Jug Handle Creek Farm now! You won't regret it for a minute.

Hipcamper Willy

Jug Handle Creek Farm was a great place to camp. It was easy to find, is in a great location, and was easy to set up camp. The space is wide and big and open, so even if the campsite is full, you have quite a bit of privacy. While the campsite is ringed by trees, it's completely clear in the middle, allowing you to see the moon, the sunset, the sunrise, the stars... everything. We would definitely come back again.

Hipcamper Lynn

Very quiet and nice campground, with the exception of a rooster in the morning. You can gather firewood, which is fun for the kids. The beach is nice and Sandy, too. Also, the headlands trail is super fun with kids. There is a tree "jungle gym." Big hit!

Hipcamper Marlon

Beautiful property with accommodating staff and plenty of space to enjoy the seclusion. Definitely plan on coming back with a bigger group

Hipcamper Jonah

Had a great time camping here with my wife on site #7. Site 6 is across from it, but it still feels quite removed and private, with hiking trail access right from the site. The beach is close, and modern conveniences can be found in Fort Bragg, just down the road. Highly recommend!

Hipcamper Dane

Perfect spot close to the town of Mendocino. Very easy arrival/setup. Our spot (#7) was very private and quiet. The Staircase hike the next morning was beautiful! We loved our stay!

Hipcamper LeeAnn

Very nice, very clean, very well organized! Will be back
