Camp Kettlewood was amazing! We stayed in the Holly Retro Trailer (Oakwood Knoll) and loved it. The trailer has been really well renovated and decorated. The fridge was a good size to hold all of our food (minus drinks) for two for the weekend. Some other nice features included a coffee maker and a fan, which make our visit more comfortable/homey.
Initially, I was a little nervous about sharing bathrooms because of COVID, however each campsite got their own stall. That make me feel so much more comfortable, and the bathrooms were super nice! The showers had doors with locks, nice shower heads and hot water. What more could you ask for??
We brought kayaks, and Simona went out of her way to show us where we could put them into the water. I’d definitely recommend bringing kayaks, canoes, or paddle boards if you have them!
Amazing escape to the woods!!
I loved everything about Camp Kettlewood!! From the moment I arrived and drove up the sweeping driveway past the wetlands and pond, I knew I’d found a sweet spot for a short getaway. I left my car in the lot, loaded up the golf cart with my gear and set off on the trail through the woods in search of the Retro Holly Trailer. It was even cuter than the photos showed it to be. Everything was spotlessly clean, there was a stash of firewood ready for a bonfire, and the (Individually designated) brand-new bathroom and outdoor showers were less than a minute’s walk away. My stay there was spent exploring the shady trails, kayaking through the wetlands, and hanging out at the trailer - bliss!! I loved the privacy of having my own piece of woodland, and felt safe in the knowledge that the owners were nearby if I had a problem. Thank you, Camp Kettlewood, for an amazing solo escape for a few days!!
Excellent midwest getaway!
Our group rented the Holly and the Airstream, and set up in two tents on that bigger site. We had 7 adults and 2 chihuahuas escaping the city for a rural weekend together, and it was glorious! The weather was perfect (no rain), and it was warm enough in the afternoon to use the cute outdoor shower (whole bathroom situation was great). The hosts were there to greet us, came by with extra firewood, and made us feel welcome and left alone all at the same time. The sites are spread out enough that we really didn't see other campers much, adding to the sense of relaxation and privacy. Trailers had all the cooking utensils we needed, and the grill top for the campfire and the gas grill meant we didn't even need the stovetops. It was great to do all the cooking outside, and save cooler space thanks to our group having two refrigerators. Plus we got to drive golf carts! Woo! Easy drive for Chicago folks, with the Mars Cheese Castle on the way. Our only vacation this year due to the pandemic, but it was a great one. Can't wait to come back next summer and do it all again!
Camp Kettlewood is a special place. The facilities and location exceed expectations. It is camping done right. The grounds are amazing, the sites even better then one could expect. I have stayed with them twice and recommended it to everyone I know.
