About Historic Heart of Cascadia
An historic 1890s mountainside homestead in the heart of Cascadia. Cabins and camping for those who love rustic adventure and a journey back in time. Originally plotted at 100 acres, the property and area remain largely unchanged, with very few neighbors and is backed up against the North Cascades wilderness and close to Mt. Baker, the Salish Sea, and so much more. The historic Nooksack Valley gold mine trail abuts the property and there is adventure and wildlife upon stepping out of your cabin or tent. Special attention has been paid to creating an authentic rustic experience that feels as old as the original buildings that still stand on the property. Many tree varieties, a creek with swimming hole and incredible view from the back of the property are just some of the features of this special place.
Worldclass mountain and river sports at nearby Mt Baker. For urban excursions, we are 20 minutes from Bellingham, 1 hour from Vancouver BC, and 1.5 hours from Seattle WA. So much to see and do in and around the area. We also offer guided interpretive hikes through the wilderness adjacent to the property.

If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
This place was absolutely amazing! The cabin we stayed in was a perfect place to hang out and rest for the night. The host is extremely nice and knowledgeable about the land and history of the property! He showed us around all the cabins he has built out of reclaimed materials and told us of his future plans. It is just a short drive into town where you can grab some food and the surrounding areas are very beautiful. I definitely recommend going here! Can't wait to go back myself!
Reg and Jesse were great hosts at this fun rustic Homestead :-)
It's a wonderful experience to wake up to nature from a log cabin. Here are some great hikes in the areas including a lusious forest up to 'gold mine trail'.
We had cosy beds and warm diners around a wood burning stove. Great conversations too. Highly recommend!
My husband and I stayed three nights and enjoyed a wonderful step back in time. Reg has worked hard to restore and build cabins and bathrooms for a comfortable nights stay. We were blessed with a power outage that had us using a wood stove and a candle that sent out magical dancing shadows. The wind blowing and ice forming on everything made it a one of a kind experience in the winter. If you want a place to spend your time in wonder this is it.
Such an rad property! Reg has done an amazing job building very cozy little cabins that complement the historic homestead feel of the place. The property and surrounding forest are fun to explore if you want to completely check out from the rest of the world. But it’s also close to great skiing, mountain biking, hiking, and Bellingham if you want to experience everything the North Cascades have to offer. A great place to stay any time of year!
We loved our stay at this cabin, it was cozy, warm, tucked away on a beautiful property yet still close to town. Essentially it the perfect spot to rest for the night (complete with a really comfy bed!) The bath house (just a couple steps away) has a beautiful claw foot tub, and a good shower...great after a day of exploring and hiking. We really can't wait to come back again in the Spring and Summer!
Reg was a kind, communicative host and made an effort to make sure we were comfortable and happy with our stay. He is hard at work improving the space continually, enhancing the common areas (including the kitchen) - but the cabin itself is already plenty cozy! If you're looking for a quiet getaway with access to hiking, rural areas, and reasonably accessibility to Bellingham (about a half hour drive), this may be a good place for you!
Reg and the spaces he has built are truly wonderful! Even in the snow and cold the land was beautiful and we stayed cozy. Definitely an added bonus to engage with the others who live on the property and who were staying as guests as well! We will definitely be back.
