Proud Veteran owned and operated business! Our farm is located within Jefferson National Forest in Craig County Virginia and one of the most scenic in our state. We have about 500 acres and only groomed camp spots with the closest two being 350 yards apart, so privacy is not a concern and what you will get. All but one of our spots are directly beside a crystal-clear creek (Johns Creek) and the other is nestled in the woods at the end of a field beside one of our ponds. Wildlife abounds at all spots, we even have Bald Eagles that are on our farm everyday. Once you see and experience our farm, we know you will absolutely love your decision for choosing us to stay with. We are very close to great hiking and biking as well. Only mins away from Virginia's Triple Crown of Hiking including McAfee Knob (the most photographed spot on the entire Appacian Trail). How The Country, LLC got its name: Being raised in Roanoke VA, I was “always” asking my parents if we were going to “The Country” where my grandparents lived in what we now call our little slice of heaven. After spending over 30 years away in the USAF (WTH...POL!!!), we returned home and couldn't wait to find a way to let others enjoy all our farm and the place I have always loved more than anywhere in the world! When trying to come up with the name, it came down to Granny and Granddaddy’s or The Country and you can guess which one we though would be the best! 😊 Portions of our farm are in its 5th generation (me) of ownership, and I hope it stays in our family for many years to come. That my friends is how and why "The Country, LLC" came to be and got its name! We will do everything we can to make your stay, no matter how long or short a special one! We pride ourselves in customer service, privacy, settings. You won’t find what we have anywhere else!!! Check us out on Facebook or call for more details, and book a reservation with us! We can't wait to see you and we're sure you will love it!

Broken Knee Spot (Camp, Fish, Swim)
Great spot by the river!
A quiet and beautiful spot along the river! The hosts were accommodating showed me to the campsite and gave me a few tips about the area!

Bluff Camp Spot (Camp, Fish, Swim)
We had a great time at the Bluff. We were met at his house and guided to our spot. Nice level lot, directly next to the creek. Porta john within sight, maybe 150 yards. Good fire ring made of rocks. Water was about 3 feet deep on average. The afternoon sun was a little hot as it came from behind the trees, but we just hid in the creek. The next closest camp site was not within sight, I'd say about 300 yards away. Saw plenty of wildlife. Even caught a few fish from the river, including a 12" largemouth! Overall great experience.

Bluff Camp Spot (Camp, Fish, Swim)
Though deans land was beautiful, he was the worst host I’ve ever had across any platform- hipcamp, Airbnb, etc. I paid Dean for firewood to be delivered to my campsite and did not receive it, and Dean refuses to refund me for a service he did not provide despite multiple polite requests after the fact. He was incredibly rude and disrespectful, as well as utterly not understanding of the realities (that he notes on his camp description!) of Verizon not having cell phone service within 45 minutes of his property. He has no specific check in times given for his sites, and out of courtesy, I initially shared with him that I would arrive before dinner the night of our reservation. He then pestered me multiple times throughout the day demanding to know my precise arrival time and refusing to share further information about the camp ahead of time. I had service sporadically throughout the day, and shared that I would arrive around 645 pm. I wound up arriving at 715 pm, 30 minutes after I estimated I would arrive from a several hours drive away. He was nowhere to be found, so I drove around the campground and located my site myself. There is no signage, nor any directions posted, and maybe some single women feel comfortable knocking on unknown strangers doors in the middle of the country, but I am not in the business of announcing myself as lost on a strangers doorstep. Overall I’m incredibly disappointed and this is without a doubt the worst hipcamp experience ever.

Creekacabana (Camp, Fish, Swim)
A Little Slice of Paradise
Simply a slice of paradise. You are secluded from the rest of world with flat ground perfect for camping. The creek is a wonderful playground for the kids. We coined the island “Rock Island” where our kids hung out for hours. A dip in the water is nothing less than rejuvenating. By far one of my favorite camping experiences, I had high hopes but didn’t expect to leave there with an I phone and heart full of memories of my kids. I can’t thank Dean enough. He is truly one of a kind. The man’s heart is in the camp site because he truly cares about your experience. Hope to come back this fall but will certainly not forget about this place and the memories created here.
