Southport Cave was such a great place to camp and explore. The host, Buddy, knows this land like the back of his hand and has marked trails all over his property with benches and picnic tables throughout. The cave itself is about a mile long with stalactites and other rock formations to see. It is gated off for safety, but guided tours are available... a great place for school/scout/church groups to take a field trip! The campground is right by the road, but it's a quiet country road so you won't be disturbed. You'll have everything you need with a fire pit, chopped woods, charcoal grill, outhouse and porta potty. There are some primitive cabins available at no extra charge for shelter (bring your own air mattress or cot with sleeping bag or linens) but hanging out in the hammock on the side of the mountain is where it's at! The trails and cave are down inside a valley off the side of where you will camp and it's so serene and peaceful there. Make sure to bring lanterns and water as there are no outlets or pumps. I can't wait to go back with friends this summer... caves are naturally cool so it's a great way to beat the heat.

Great for kids and a family get together. Neat little cave and cool shelters and picnic tables that have been carried out to the marked trails. Great pavilion, stone bbq and fire pit. Clean portapotty .. bring your own solar shower and water no nearby waterfall or creek that we saw but great for short term family campfire expience : )

Had so much fun on this camping trip!! Buddy was amazing and helped us in every way possible!! The secluded area was nice and private but still not too far from the city. The cave was awesome and a fun experience for first timers. Definitely coming back soon! Thanks Buddy!!

Great quiet property. We were the only ones camping. We ended up camping in our van so we didn't use a cabin but they are basically small shed like structures which is really nice if you don't have a tent. The trails on the property were gorgeous. They were still working on getting them all cut and trimmed up while we were there because of the recent storms but it didn't bother us and it was gorgeous. There's a cave you can walk to on the property that is a short distance from where you are camping. You can't go super far into the cave because there's a gate, but you can still walk in it a bit. I had friends drive up from Nashville to hang out for the day and explore and they loved the property. We definitely will be back and hoping to bring a group next time. Buddy was super helpful and let us borrow his ax so we could cut up some fire wood. I would recommend bringing some sort of ax or even a hand held hatchet to help cut up the big logs available. There's plenty of wood on the property that can be used for fire too. They don't have a running water hook up so make sure you bring enough water from home for washing and drinking. There was an outhouse we used but apparently they usually have a porta-potty too.
