Pitch your tent in the Pine Forest section of the campground. You'll be in the middle of the campground but set back into the woods for privacy. This site is a bit farther into the woods than PINES 1 and is more suited to solo or duo tent camping. If you prefer to sleep in a hammock there are some great options in this area. There may or may not be other guests nearby at the time of your stay. If you choose to meander a bit farther into the woods away from other guests or because you found some great trees that is okay too.Trails will get you to the larger pasture meadow and an easy walk to the almost finished (as of Dec 2019) outhouse. You are invited to hike around the property or even bring your mountain bike where you'll be able to ride about 1.5 to 2 miles meandering through the various terrain here on the buffalo. And don't forget the best aspect - our riverfront on the Buffalo - that features a nice area to wade or swim with a large rock wall as your view. Bring your canoe or kayak and you can set in to one of two spots up the river (5 or 10 min drive) and take out at the camp. A minimal transport fee to go get your vehicle or to be dropped off.
To unload, you drive through the magical pine tree lane down to an area where you can unload. Parking is not available adjacent to any of the campsites to keep this a magical nature space. It's not a far walk and your vehicle will be safe in the parking area. This is a great spot for multiple tents for your group. You can build a fire in this area, in the field about 10 feet away, or head towards the bonfire circle towards the bluff and the road down to the river.
This is a Leave-No-Trace campground associated with Camp Wonder Wander Creativity Retreat Center. With a burgeoning artist residency program you may encounter art installations, murals (at the camp buildings) and an open air sculpture gallery - at least that's the dream and longer term goal.**KAYAK RENTAL OR TRANSPORT SERVICE**Based on availability you may want to rent kayaks for up to 6 people. This includes transport to one of two spots up river. The first is called Texas Bottoms and is about a 3 hr float unless you fish or lollygag. The second. Grinder's Creek is about 10 minute drive and approximately 8 hrs which requires getting out at Texas Bottoms and walking across the street due to the low bridge. (TDOT will be renovating in 2021). $30/person for Texas Bottoms. $40/person for Grinder's Creek.Transport service available for up to 6 people and your own kayaks to drop in OR one person drive back to your vehicle - reservations required. Please ask about additional drop in services farther up river. Max vehicle capacity is 6 people. Can also park and get a ride back to your vehicles. Rate based upon distance and people.
