Welcome to our secret getaway. A place where you can go to truly get away from the world to slow down, breathe deep, and rejuvenate. We bought this 80-acre property out of a love affair with the high desert and the peace, serenity, and beauty that comes with it.  It has been our own escape after reading Aldo Leopold's "Sand County Almanac." We go here to watch the clouds dance off Wy'est and Pahto (Mt. Hood and Mt. Adams), listen to the passing geese in the autumn and spring and the howl of the coyotes on a summer night. In the winter we come to soak up sunshine, dry out from the rain, and get space from hectic urbanity. The ravens are active and dance on the wind then and it's nice just to be still and look out over the Cascades. In spring the property comes alive with color from all the wildflowers. The summers are hot and dry, but the rivers nearby are cool and inviting. Between May-September be sure to book a Deschutes rafting trip! About the experience: Enjoy total privacy on this beautiful patch of Earth. The campsite is at the far back of the property half a mile from the road where we have a beautiful clearing with spectacular views of Wy'est (Mt. Hood) and Pahto (Mt. Adams). You are welcome to pitch your tent or park your camper anywhere near the vintage airstream on the property.  You're welcome to make use of the fire ring, propane fire pit, adirondack chairs, and of course, the outhouse. The experience of watching the sun fade over the mountains and having the brilliant night sky open up before you while you tend to a campfire is a magical experience that stirs the soul and reminds us what it means to be a human being. The best part...there is not another soul around for miles. About the area: Experience the outdoor paradise that is Central Oregon. Relax, unplug and enjoy stunning views of snow capped volcanoes. Explore the region known for world renowned fly fishing, rafting, cycling, hiking and biking. Our property is located 8 miles from downtown Maupin where there is a market that sells food, firewood, and adult beverages, a local fly fishing shop, and other small restaurants. There are tons of rafting and fishing outfitters in town. Unlike campsites that are closer into town, ours doesn't have a train running at all hours of the night creating a somewhat jarring camping experience. Not to mention the sites in town can get crowded.

The hills have eyes
First and foremost I appreciate the availability of a place to stay in such a remote part of Oregon. I have very mixed feelings though. I hate leaving a bad review but this place really gave me the creeps. It was completely neglected. Even though the directions stated that there are abandoned trailers and vehicles on the property I didn't realize that they were right at the campsite. Being a single women camping alone I had the creepiest feeling being there. Ontop of that the outhouse door wouldn't lock closed and the wind would creak it open then slam it shut all throughout the night so I kept thinking someone was opening doors. I felt like I was in a horror film about to be a victim. On a side note, the view is beautiful and while the picnic table was absolutely destroyed and none of the amenities were usable I feel that with some actual time and care to put this place back together could make it a pretty spot to stay. It just needs a lot of TLC. My current position thought, is at he current price range it is not worth staying the night when there are plenty of creepy places to stay for free.

1 night stop on our RV trip
We had a nice 1 night stay on this beautiful, secluded property. It got really windy at night and through the morning so I was glad we were in an RV and not a tent. Not sure if that is typical for a clear summer night? The highlights were enjoying a spectacular sunset over Mt. Hood on the property and stopping at White River Falls (about 12 miles away).

The Milky Way, the mountains! Beautiful, secluded high desert setting. We spent the majority of our time watching the pair of Western Kingbirds feed their three babies in the nest near the campsite. <3 Loved them. There's little shade and few wind breaks, so mid-summer high desert weather could be a bit brutal, unless you bring your canopy. We also found that the picnic table and grills were unusable, so bring your own cooktops and table space. We had a lovely time nevertheless and would love to come back another time!

Absolute beauty and solitude
This property is absolutely stellar for secluded camping. We encountered nary a soul unless we went into town. Our neighbors consisted or a rather crotchety pair of birds who were caring for newborns (no judgement…been there!) in the tree near where we parked our camper. The view of the mountains paired with the sunsets, moon rises, and sunrises made for a seriously dreamy venue for reflection, meditation, or, as in our case, recuperation. We were there in mid July so it was pretty darn hot and although there are rivers all over, unless you love to rappel or have a river rafting date planned, the water is not easily accessible save for a rather steep trek at the local falls. Our mildewy coastal selves made due with a few hours of AC during the hottest part of the day but also found that a hammock made the most of the breezes as well. We brought our two dogs and though we had heard there was a neighbor dog that likes to visit, we saw no other animals though we did hear coyotes in the early morning. The dogs enjoyed the freedom though I would caution that you check them for grass seed and “foxtails” regularly during the summer, at least. Neal was readily available by text for any concerns or questions (we had none, just wanted to swoon over the sunsets with someone who “got it”) Neal was upfront about there being other vehicles currently on the property that he is working at having removed. Other than occupying a rather shady spot, they detract not a bit from the view

Top 5 lifetime sunset
Took the family (3 kids and dog) to This is a gorgeous spot. Lots of space and lots of privacy. We watched the mountain during the day and the stars at night. Nice fire ring with comfy chairs at the site. Easy drive to Maupin. Outhouse is clean. And we saw one of the best sunsets ever over mt hood.
