From the moment we pulled up, we felt very welcome with the hosts hospitality. Site was nicely secluded, clean and spacious for 3 tents and our group. Bathrooms were kept clean and the views are breathtaking!! Had an amazing time! We will definitely be going back in the future :)
Secluded and scenic
First time using hipcamp, wasn’t sure what to expect. Site was clean and secluded which was great. It was nice to wake up to the sound of birds. The camp host was very helpful and accommodating, gave spot on directions. Would definitely go to this site again.
Beautiful and secluded
Our expectations were high from the pictures and description of the property but they were met and exceeded! My fiancee and I reserved a spot on Sunday FOR Sunday night, not giving much warning for the host. Mel(the host) called me to make sure I found my way to property ok, Doug was on the grounds to help us get into our spot safely, there was firewood cut and on site(HUGE bonus), and the site was beautiful! Well taken care of and gorgeous views. I could go on and on. It was absolutely perfect! Thank you Mel :)
Perfect camping spot!
This was my first HipCamp experience and it exceeded my expectations. We stayed in the #3 site which was spacious and had complete privacy and quiet nestled in the forest.
Mel provides both a cook table and a picnic table. He provided firewood and there is spring water available up in the shop (requires driving, so be sure to bring jugs). He also allows you to wash you dishes in the shop, which I was grateful for.
He stretched a large tarp in the trees which made a huge difference when it rained and we could move the tables under it. The porta potty was clean & the site was clean. Mel is super helpful and friendly and available. Some carriers get service - Verizon and Sprint but not T-Mobile or AT&T.
Perfect location close to the coast, lakes, and dunes.
Favorite spots we enjoyed were the trail around Eel Lake in Humbug State Park and Sunset Bay beach just South of Coos Bay.
We will definitely be back! Thank you Mel!
Site is very close to Dunes, but away from the crowds. Campsite was really private and secluded with great views. Camp site is newly developed, but Mel has put a lot of care and thought into developing this site. We had a 12-man tent, 5-man tent, 2-man tent, a 10’ canopy and shower tent all set up there with plenty of space. Although the site is on a hillside, the entire campsite is on level ground. Fire pit and picnic table are provided for convenience. Mel is developing a couple of other campsites nearby, but each site will have complete privacy. Vehicles will not be able to pull right up to any of the campsites, but will be a short walk from the parking area to each campsite. On #3, we were able to park within about 30’ with some technical vehicle maneuvering. Porta-John was central to all three campsites, so entailed a short walk. We had a great stay and felt lucky to find this campsite!
Do check out the archery range and trail there; Doug was very helpful and our kids had a great time.
We needed a last minute camp spot and found this site and Mel’s land. We couldn’t have been happier that we did, the camp spot was gorgeous and so secluded. There was a small trek to unload but not too bad. Very large sites we stayed in #3 and can’t wait to come back next year!!!
Quiet and beautiful place to stay!
We stayed three nights at Mel's. Mel was out of town so our host was Doug, who was friendly and showed us around. Our campsite was great (I think we had #1). There was a picnic table, table, area for our tent with a tarp canopy and plenty of trees so we were able to set up the hammock we brought with us. Each campsite is very private so you may hear others but you don't see them from your spot. You won't be able to be right next to your vehicle but you can get close to the campsite to load and unload. It was really nice there was some firewood provided. The view was beautiful, so we had wonderful mornings and evenings.
An outhouse is available for all campsites or you can walk up to the shop to use indoor plumbing (maybe a 5-10 minute walk). We didn't use the shower but there is one available for $10.
I highly recommend this area to other campers. I do recommend to pet owners to possibly bring flea collars or be proactive in treating their dogs. When we returned home I found out or dog had fleas. Please be aware this may not be from the property as we also went to the beaches nearby and other areas. We rented a dune buggy from Spinreel which is only a 12 minute drive away. If you're in southern Oregon I suggest staying at Mel's!
Beautiful campsite, terrific host.
My wife, 9-year old son, two dogs and I had a wonderful experience. The pictures just don't do this place justice. We stayed in campsite 3 which had a gorgeous, panoramic view of the forests and valley. And the campsite layout was terrific (e.g. picnic table, cooking table, chairs, etc.). I will add that Mel is also the consummate host. He went out of his way to prepare us for the trip and gave us a warm welcome when we got there. And because it had been raining (Oregon in May) before our arrival, he was kind enough to hang a tarp in the trees right above the tent site. So it was nice and dry when we arrived. We appreciated the fact he checked in on us regularly to make sure we had everything we needed, and also gave us great recommendations on things to do and places to visit while we were there. We absolutely loved our stay here and look forward to coming back.
