​Back to the basics, come and experience Tar River Life’s primitive camping on the Tar River. Enjoy being on the river and listening to slow running sound of the Tar River. Bring your own tent or rent one of ours. You can drive your vehicle to all of our campsites. The drive to camp is about 1/2 miles. Each site includes a fire pit, wood and trash bin. Cook your own meals or try and catch your own fish from the river. Campsites can be secluded or grouped. Each site comes with a picnic table, 1 bundle of wood and trash can. Stay for a night or longer period of time, come and enjoy the outdoors with us. We have lots of walking trails, fishing access, wildlife, kayaking and tubing (must be purchased through us). 2WD vehicles are ok except during wet conditions. There is also the Vollmer Farm, with seasonal produce a Full Coffee Shop with breakfast goodies and baked goods and not to mention their fabulous ice cream. They have goods from around NC including, eggs, honey, meats, beers, wine and more. There is a grocery store (Food Lion) about 15 minutes away. So you can stock up on supplies on your way to your next adventure. We are pet friendly!

Great spot and incredible service. Our car battery died and they were more than happy to help get us back on the road.

Life on the River
Truly a hidden gem. This spot was close enough to civilization that if you forgot something you could pop out to town 5 mins down the road, but also tucked away in the woods along the river to forget that you were civilized. The campsites are very well maintained, though I would be worried about a few dead trees on a windy day. Each site has a trashcan and a fire pit, plenty of space to lounge and relax in a hammock. The woods are there for exploring and seeing the wildlife. I saw a turkey that looked bigger than me. I would recommend this location to any of my local friends looking for a quick getaway as we did.

We loved spending a weekend here! It was a great getaway and the site provided everything we needed. We enjoyed fishing and swimming in the river.

Beautiful
Very beautiful site. Easy to get too. Hosts are very communicative. Can fish right at campsite . Will definitely be back we had a great time !

Had a great time at Tar River campsite. We had a cozy little campsite right on the water. We camped during the week so we had the area to ourselves. Hosts were great and very responsive! Can’t wait to bring our friends.

We loved our 1 night stay at site #1. We met Billy at the gate who brought a generous amount of complimentary firewood. The sites are spaced apart enough to create privacy and solitude. It was peaceful, beautiful, and we highly recommend!
