The vibe at Overlook Lean-to
Places to see near Adirondack Vacation Base
The Overlook Lean-To is AMAZING. The site is extremely clean, organized and well stocked. The fire pit is beautiful (surrounded by incredible rocks). The lean-to itself is a work of art and has great energy. The land is lovely and well-cared for. It's very private, but also accessible. My husband and I stayed for three nights and had friends join us for two. We had so much fun at the camp and in the area. But most importantly, Sheila and Bob are the best hosts. They are interesting, kind and cheerful people who put so much love into this piece of property over 35 years. And they make the BEST maple syrup. We hope to be back soon! The fall colors will be amazing up there, I'm sure.
We absolutely loved out stay at Overlook Lean-To. The property is beautiful and very private. The lean-to itself is very comfortable and fully equipped for cooking and campfires. Bob and Sheila were very welcoming and engaging. They called us beforehand to make sure we had directions, and gave great recommendations for hikes in the area. We will be back for sure.
Come stay here!! You won't regret it!!
If you're tired of state campgrounds with neighbors on your elbows running their generators, then this place is next to perfect.
We stayed for 8 nights so we really had a chance to settle in and enjoy. My wife and I slept in the lean-to and my girls set a tent off to the side.
It's not remote, but it is very private. The traffic you hear is kind of a moderate droning sound in the distance.
If you're staying for a night or two, Sheil's got you covered with dishes, pots & pans, water, coffee pot, a lantern, or whatever. Because we were there for so long (and because I'm a little "extra"), I'm glad I brought some of our own gear—I wish I had brought our enamel camping dishes.
Bob is a true artisan and his talent shows in the construction of the lean-to. The thing is amazing! Be warned, however—I'm 5'8" and managed to bump my head at least 3 times on one of the overhangs. I cannot explain why I didn't learn after the first time. ;)
Also to Bob's credit is the 1.4 miles of MTB single track that runs through the property. It has 3 nicely done berms and just over 100' of elevation...and I had it all to myself! ..a lot of fun.
Sheila is the perfect concierge with seemingly endless suggestions—and what's cool is that she's earned the right to talk about all of them. She's done the paddles, the climbs, and experienced whichever restaurant. She's good!
Sheila and Bob were fantastic hosts. They were very respectful of our space but perceptive enough to always be available when we needed guidance on the day's events or where to buy ice.
Their property is really cool and I’m certain that whichever one of their venues you chose to sleep in you’d have a great time.

We could not have asked for a more private, more peaceful or more perfect getaway. The lean to had a super comfortable bed as well as furniture and hammocks, Despite the rain we were warm and dry even when cooking due to the generous overhangs on the lean to. Take a chance with this different accommodation. You will not regret it.
Bob and Sheila are the best hosts. Bob stayed up until 10pm when we got in after unexpected delays. After realising we were inexperienced campers they checked on us periodically. The site was a beautiful masterpiece that was perfect to celebrating our 8th anniversary. The Lean-to was adequately equipped and perfectly positioned for viewing the sunrise and sunsets.
A recommendation we will make to all friends and family
