North shore adventure!
To start, Sue was very communicative between the time we booked and showed up (less than 6hrs, thanks for the quick response Sue!) Once we arrived, Sue gave us a thorough yet brief tour of her place and answered all our questions. Her place is well kept and a beautiful piece of land with plenty of space. We enjoyed a crackling fire, clear star gazing, a cute and rustic barn-turned-pavillion, the gentle noise of the babbling creek near our tent that night and early morning canoing in the creek (which feeds into a beautiful lake!). It was an excellent part of our short North Shore adventure. Thanks again Sue!
Serene and cozy
The Little Cloquet Cove is magical!
Although the camping is dispersed and natural, Sue knows every inch of her beloved land and will help find the best spots. Sue did a wonderful job of matching me to the spot on her property that was just right for me. She had me set up where I could hear the stream running over the rapids, which made for a very restful sleep. It was a short distance from the super cute building that houses the bathroom and gathering space. I can picture that being a wonderful spot to sit with a cup of cocoa if the weather wasn’t ideal. (No sitting in a cramped tent in the rain when you have that cozy, open and airy covered space with tables and a bar and the bathroom right there.)
No need to duck raindrops this time, though. The midnight sky was full of stars and the daytime was perfect for exploring the trails. I found pretty flowers, interesting plants and birds. In the morning I sat with my coffee and watched the sun rise over the stream. It was serene and just what I needed in this time of anxiousness in the world.
As I was taking my tent down, Sue stopped by to suggest that I take her kayak out as the sun was just perfect. She was right! I had a lovely, peaceful paddle while my rainfly dried.
Not only is Sue a warm and wonderful hostess, she genuinely cares about making her property feel like it’s yours. She asked for input on ways she can continue to make it even more welcoming, and I was impressed by that.
I wish Sue all the best in hosting campers. I know that I’ll be back and have already been recommending it to my friends!
Sue was an excellent host! Her property is simply stunning. We stayed at a campsite located next to the lake on her property and it was perfect for us as we had a four year old and a dog who had never been camping with us! The site was more secluded and private and despite just being a 3 minute walk to the bathrooms and the other campsites we couldn’t hear any extra noise and felt like we weren’t bothering anyone either. Sue’s land was simply beautiful she herself was so accommodating and kind. One hour from Tettegouche, 45 minutes from Two Harbors, 45 minutes from Duluth, with gorgeous drives in between. Make sure you bring all the stuff you’re going to need because the trade off for the incredible solitude is no nearby grocery stores or anything, which I was personally grateful for! Stunning birch trees, lake views, the sun rising over the hills, river and lake access, what more could you ask for? A plus side for us also was Sue’s adorable dog Jessie who really helped my dog feel right at home and help get her zoomies out! Just a great spot!
I’m so grateful to Sue for sharing her home and land. So many cool sites to set up your own camping space surrounded by an abundance of big beautiful trees. The pavilion was set up so adorably would great options to escape any rain, play games — and an outhouse to boot. Available canoe and firewood make this even better. Truly I can’t say enough good things — about Sue either, she is the absolute sweetest and welcomes you right away! Can’t wait to go back
Nice camp. nice host.
Very nice property on which to camp. Easy to find location. Sue met my friend and I upon arrival and she was warm and personable. It was late in the evening and dark when we arrived. She led us to our campsite and had already started a fire for us. This was a really unexpected and wonderful thing for her to do. I would definitely stay there again.
Sue’s place was wonderful! Her property is beautiful and the location is great for exploring the north shore. Sue was extremely friendly and helpful too! Would totally recommend and will be back again!
Bliss at little cloquet.
We were some on the first campers to stay at Little Cloquet. Sue was very welcoming and accommodating, even offering to let us use the canoe and kayaks. We were a group of 6 and stayed by the river under a beautiful grove of Birch. There was plenty of wood to be scavenged and some cut wood that Sue provided. Since she is new to HipCamp, my only suggestions would be to grade the sites and define them a wee bit. Finding flat ground for all our tents was a tiny bit challenging, but overall, EXCELLENT! And Jessie the pupper was adorable! None of us wanted to leave. Would definitely camp there again.
