Relax and recharge at Prairie Woods Farm! Pitch a tent or hang a Hammock. Just 35 minutes south of the Twin Cities, our quiet and secluded campsight is right in our north vineyard. Includes picnic table, fire ring and all fire wood. Retreat to the screened "She shed" or roam the vineyards or woods. 7 miles west of I-35 at the Northfield exit.
The campsite is a very short walk from the home parking area and a gear hauling wagon is at the parking area for your convenience. You may also drive in to load and unload as well.
On your way to Prairie Woods Farm you'll notice quickly the change in topography into rolling hills. The views are spectacular and camp offers a chance to enjoy the vineyard, wildlife, amazing sunsets and peace & quiet. Each guest receives a welcome packet containing information on the area and is highlighted with some of our favorite places - if you chose to go exploring. Here are some ideas to get you started:
Vineyards and Wineries: We are in the heart of Minnesota wine growing country where some of Minnesota's very first vineyards were begun. Within a few square mile area there are 4 different vineyards growing over 100 tons of grapes for local wineries. Winery tasting rooms with a short drive include Next Chapter in Montgomery and Cannon Valley in Cannon Falls. A little farther is our favorite winery where our grapes are made into the best wine in Minnesota, Chankaska Creek Ranch and Winery in Kasota. All have a very different appeal and are worth a visit. If you love craft beers, visit Montgomery Brewing, Giesenbrau Bier Company, Imminent Brewing, Tanzenwald brewery or Chapel Brewery. Prefer a homemade cocktail? Loon Liquors Distillery in Northfield specializes in hand crafted gourmet cocktails made from their own spirits made onsite.
Boating and Fishing: If you enjoy boating or fishing, we are minutes away from many southern Minnesota Lakes - or - bring your canoe and explore the Cannon River! We are happy to help shuttle you if we are around.
Golf: Play the challenging Willingers only a few miles away, Creeks Bend outside of New Prague or public courses in Montgomery or New Prague offer a great day of golf.
Dining and Entertainment: Our personal favorite diversion is the historic river-town of Northfield. This quaint community on the Cannon River reminds us of a small European village with walking bridges crossing the river bordered with shopping, good restaurants and pubs in this town listed on the National Historic Register. Northfield is home to two nationally known liberal arts colleges (Carleton and St Olaf), giving you a chance to catch a play, a recital, concert or art show almost any day of the week. This is not a rowdy college town and prides itself on a level of higher learning (At over $50k per year to attend with high admission standards, they attract the best and brightest.) Many of the pubs feature live music or weekly jam sessions and it's our favorite place to grab a drink while sitting by the river near the downtown falls.
Traveling west will take you to "Czech country" a collection of towns that were founded by those of Bohmenian heritage. Explore historic St. Wenceslaus Church in New Prague; stop for a Kolachy (Czech sweet roll) at a bakery (Frankies Bakery in Montgomery are the best) or a bowl of authentic Vomachka soup at the Fish Tail Grill. Make sure to tune to KCHK radio (95.5 FM / 1350 AM) to know where the local polka bands are playing or to listen to polka music!
Camp: Of course, you are also welcome to just stay onsite and hang out in the vineyard or walk the almost 1 mile of on-site hiking trails. Take in the amazing views while hiking the quiet country roads that stretch on for miles. Relax in the screen porch "She shed" and enjoy watching the lightening bugs or butterfly's put on their air show! The most important thing to us is that you stop rushing and enjoy the quiet solitude.
Options: We want you to enjoy your experience so we also offer additional options!

This place is AWESOME! This family who runs the two campsites at this beautiful and quiet sanctuary out in the country are so kind, covering all the desires of a Hipcamper! Complete with a campsite bathroom and a porch to stay out of the way of the bugs, you feel quite luxurious. Bonfire pits and tables included in each campsite! The perfect country getaway as you're passing through the cities.
This place was awesome. We went for our anniversary. The camp site was right next to the vineyard. The owners greeted us and even had a bottle of wine prepared. We enjoyed walking the grounds and just relaxing. Great spot if you are visiting Northfield and other nearby spots. Will definitely visit again.
We had a lovely time staying here. My boyfriend and I came to get one more camping trip in before the cold weather takes over. I am so happy we found this gem. It's unique and quiet retreat. If you are looking for a quick getaway, I definitely recommend this place! Adam and Maggie were amazing hosts!
The campsite was everything we expected and more! It's private and right next to the vineyards, a few steps away is a spectacular view of the surrounding prairie. Adam & Maggie were excellent hosts despite not seeing them during our short trip. They gave clear directions, dry firewood, and a clean toilet. I am recommending this campsite to my friends and family!
This was our first time on Hipcamp and it was wonderful. We really enjoyed the privacy that this site offered, especially compared to most big park systems. It was mostly very quiet (we could hear some conversation from the house one of the nights) and we felt relaxed. The site is gorgeous and peaceful and has everything you need for a weekend away. There are also several wineries, breweries, and small towns to explore in the area. Would highly recommend!
There is only 1 campsite as of Aug 2018 - some of the comments or descriptions gave me the impression that there were 2 sites. Site is about 40 yds downhill from the owner's driveway where you park. Easy to find thanks to the mowed trails. Beautiful spot; a favorite memory is watching the dragonflies dance over the grape vines. We had great weather and were able to sleep with the rain fly off so we could see the stars - not something I would do at a public campground. For new Hipcampers make sure you google "portable toilet" so you can mentally prepare kids! My only critique is the ample firewood was not dry enough to stay lit despite having kindling and lighter fluid. I should have purchased a bundle just in case. Great spot and I would definitely recommend to others.
