We purchased this property in 2013 from a family that owned it most of the 20th century. We fell in love with the woods and meadows and have been working very hard to repair buildings and plan a sustainable farm and orchard producing fruits, roots, nuts and berries (hence the name "bear food"). As educators, we want one component of the plan to feature experimenting, teaching, learning and hands-on workshops in sustainable living systems and methods. We host visits and work days for a local high school sustainability club, and are hoping to expand on that. We would like our cabin to be a year-round retreat destination for local educators and a meeting place for the local cycling community. Camping naturally fits our plan, giving people access to some nature therapy just a 10 minute drive from town. Our neighbor is a national champion disc golfer and has built his own full disc golf course on property we sold him. If you play, the course is very nice and we could arrange a camp and golf package. Our location is the gateway to the dirt roads of rural Washtenaw County, offering endless miles of low-traffic biking adventure.

The land is lovely with rolling hills and some beautiful trees. I enjoyed mornings sitting out in the field watching many birds. There is a field near the road for camping that did not seem as private and another area with a little more slope and some construction going on that is a little more private, but the cabin that is being rented is right in the middle - this wasn't really a problem but is good to know for setting expectations. A new porta john was brought in for campers and some renters to use, but this was different than the description which included using the cabin which was now being rented. The description should be changed to reflect this and maybe has been by now. There is no water but I heard there were plans to build a bathhouse with showers which would include water. The site met my needs as I was attending a retreat at Jewel Heart and it is very close by. You are out in the country but a very close drive to groceries and restaurants. I basically needed a place to park my van and sleep and it was a quiet, pleasant, safe place to do this. I wasn't looking for interaction with the host or renters and those who I did speak with were very nice and friendly.

We had a great stay! We met the hosts briefly- they were kind and welcoming. The camp site is quiet and lovely. There was a porta potty close by for our use, as well as a charcoal grill and a fire pit with wood. It's only about 15 min to get to downtown Ann Arbor from the property. We were very pleased with this experience and would recommend it to others.

Holy Cow guys!! This place is Wonderful!! The property is filled with tons of wildflowers and little trails that lead you all over the property! The homeowners Berry, Rebecca and Ellie are the sweetest people ever! They greeted us the moment we arrived and welcomed us to the tomatoes growing in their beautiful Veggie garden. They are an extremely hard working family and you can tell they love the land and are doing their part to make the property amazing! The "utility" cabin is more like a "tiny" house, its filled with couches a mini fridge, stove and it even has a composting toilet! This was honestly the coolest campground we have ever stayed at! I would recommend this site to everyone!

OMG YALL, this place is a paradise. Our time at Orchard tent campgrounds was everything ABD MORE we could have hoped for. Our hosts live fascinating live similar to ours; food, sustainability, craft, nature, and we're excited to see them grow their orchard, garden (and potentially mushrooms) in the future! As for the CAMPGROUND. First and for most there is this shed, and shed is an understatement, but inside is a lovely abode decorated with biking decor, and very camphousy. They provided filtered water with a phenomenal Berkeley charcoal water filtration system, electricity and compostible toilet. WE RECCOMMEND 100% RAIN, SNOW, HURRICANE, TSUNAMI. -lol Thanks, Barry!
