The last week of September and the first week or two of October are peak color here in Northern Michigan! Book now for the best color! The sky here is so clear you feel like you can reach up and touch the stars. When you camp in the tall pines, they block the wind at the bottom where you are so there's no blowing your tent around, yet you can see the trees swaying and hear the breeze. You will be surrounded by the night sounds, peepers and crickets to sing you to sleep along with the bass of the bullfrog and lately an owl has taken up residence and will come to visit and call to you during the night. If you're lucky, you could catch a glimpse of the young porcupine who have been spotted in the woods recently. They're shy, so you won't be bothered by them but they will sit high in the trees and chatter to you. Also, check out the other listings here at Camp Stonewood Ranch if a tipi would be something to peak your interest! Two ten foot tipis stand in the forest, waiting for someone to come and enjoy a unique experience in them. You are within 30 miles of Grayling, Cadillac and Traverse City where there is always something doing, from festivals to wineries, horse shows on a grand scale to kayaking on the Manistee. Stonewood is just 10 miles outside of Kalkaska to the north and Fife Lake to the south.

Camp Stonewood Ranch was such a rejuvenating space. Julia and her dog have the most beautiful Stone home with chickens and horses, who are ready to greet you. Julia is the most friendly, inviting, and sweet host. Her land is spacious and serene. We set up camp amongst the pines in a prairie landscape. Julia plans to have tipis soon which will offer even more exciting stays at Camp Stonewood Ranch!
Great 1st hipcamp experience!
We had such a great time at Camp Stonewood Ranch! Julia was so warm and friendly, and obviously puts so much love into her place. We enjoyed a peaceful and quiet evening on one of her tipi sites. She has lots of great things in the works for future site plans, too!
This was my first Hipcamp stay. Julia’s Farm/ camp site was exactly what I was looking for. It felt like I was in the middle of nowhere. My dogs had room to run and I had plenty of privacy. It was a charming property and a great place to find some much needed relaxation in the outdoors.
Peaceful night under the stars
Julia’s land is the perfect spot to get away to. She greeted us and took us to a site among many pine trees. We felt secluded and private and had an amazing night sky view on our first evening. Julia was very welcoming and we will definitely come back to camp up north!
