Push off of the public boat launch in Brunswick Maine for a short 3/4 of a mile to an island retreat.  On your trip out, see bald eagles and osprey diving for fish, hear the slap of a beaver tail and the chuckling of the squirrels as you set foot on your island. You'll feel like you're miles away from everything but you're still in the middle of Maines beautiful Midcoast region. We have added some new features in 2019; a waterproof 12'x17' screen house is set up at the location. The screen house has two picnic tables and a propane BBQ. We also added a three room tent for your convenience.

Kayak or canoe Merrymeeting Bay - the largest Estuary on the east coast.  You can rent kayaks or other canoes from Jim Cornish. If you have a water dog, bring the buoy, a tired dog is a happy dog. At the end of a day paddling, relax by the fire and hear the rustling of the leaves overhead. You might even see deer on occasion. If you want to day trip or lunch out, Brunswick features dozens of great restaurants and shops.

Museums at Bowdoin College and a farmers market on Fridays and you can't leave without checking out Frosty's Donuts - 55 years of donut goodness. 20 minutes to Freeport LLBean area, 15 minutes to Bath, 40 minutes to Boothbay Harbor and 35 minutes back to Portland.

There are few places quite as incredible as this! Staying on a private island was a real treat, and with the many accommodations provided by our host, we did so in complete comfort! Ask Jim, the host, to add an hour of outdoor skill training to your weekend visit, as he's a registered maine guide! There are numerous places to set up a tent, and you have the option of canoeing, bringing your own kayaks or small skiff, or talking with Jim about options for his assistance getting out to the island! Even opt to take the train up the coast, where he will pick you up! There's tons of paddling options, and we listened to multiple critters as we fell asleep. The comfort of having a host with such experience allowed us to feel as though we were having a private retreat, and it was amazing!

Canoe or kayak paradise. My girlfriend, dog, and I spent two great days hanging out in our canoe exploring and swimming around Cornish Island. It is a tidal area and the crystal clear water is about 12 inches deep all around the island at low tide. It is mostly freshwater around the island. Tons of cool places to explore in kayak or canoe.

Campsite was very comfortable with screened in area for cooking and eating, large fire pits, pit toilet, and plenty of firewood and water provided. There is also a sizable tent on the premises with cord inside. We brought an air mattress that fit inside the tent easily, so it was quite comfortable.

It was our first time so I was slightly nervous about directions, but Jim met me at the launch spot and sent me on my way with a map (easy to find) and even some delicious muffins from his wife. Highly recommend, we will return for sure.

Hosts were absolutely wonderful! Very accommodating and very friendly. We had some trouble both with traffic (we were late) and weather during our trip, but Jim was very flexible and helpful. Our dog loved having the ability to run free on the island, and we had a really lovely time taking the canoe out on the river. Thank you!

The only word to describe the camping experience is phenomenal. From the large island filled with fun stuff to explore to the eerie yet memorizing fog that sets in during a storm, the trip was amazing. The sunsets were beautiful and the river was warm/enjoyable to swim in and was filled with fish of all sizes. The host was kind and helpful and gave us great tips on fishing, swimming, and other interesting stuff. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants an enjoyable camping trip filled with fishing, swimming, exploring, etc.

This was our second trip staying at Cornish Island, and it was even more lovely than the first. It’s such an amazing island. Perfectly private, great views, access to the water. We absolutely can’t wait to come back.

We had a great time on Cornish Island. Jim and his wife were incredibly helpful. There is plenty of space to set up tents, and it was nice and convenient having a large screen tent and picnic table already there, along with a propane BBQ. We had so much fun, and we’ll definitely return!

This site exceeded all expectations. The host goes above and beyond. There was more than enough fire wood provided. Bottled water is provided on site with a tent and screen house already set up.

Kris and James are wonderful hosts! We rented canoes from them and they were dropped off and picked up for us at the landing. Kris made us blueberry muffins and they were delicious! The camp was clean, organized, and well equipped. The island is completely private and a great place to unwind and relax. It's a perfect place for dogs to roam free.
