NEW at Purplehaze Acres! Potable water, charcoal grills, and firewood (available for purchase)! I have raised my camping fee from $35/night to $40 to cover the costs of improvements.

Purplehaze Acres is a 60-acre organic rustic farm in Rubicon, WI and resides at the beginning of the approx. 650-mile Niagara Escarpment--known locally as "The Ledge".  We are in close proximity to the natural treasures of the the Ice Age Trail for hiking, Pike Lake for swimming, Wild Goose Trail for biking,  the great Horicon Marsh, & Lake Sinnissipi/Rock River for canoeing/kayaking/fishing/boating*. Also a little drive away is the world-renowned Holy Hill Shrine.  Nearby Hustisford ("Husti") offers unique shopping experiences, such as the Mercantile.  Need a few organic groceries?  Make sure to visit Back To The Best Organic grocer only 3 miles away and featuring food raised on local organic farms including Purplehaze Acres.

Each very private tent site has a different flavor: Fallen Tower (Site 1) is just beyond the debunked wind tower nestled among towering pines with views of stunning sunsets and wildlife. Casey's Camp (Site 2) is in the wooded hills.  You get the full dappled wonder of woodland flora--blossoms of trillium, astor, jack-in-the-pulpit and bellwort, depending on the time of year. Requires a hike (with a cart) up the hill; and Twisted Elm (Site 3) sits up on a hill in the woods with glimpses of the field below--private & peaceful; Firefly Camp (Site 4) on the edge of the woods, overlooks a field, which promises a twinkling show of lightening bugs, wildlife & sunsets. This is the furthest from the main house & smallest camp-- very intimate; Darby's Camp (Site 5) is tucked away in a sun-stippled forest niche. Requires a hike (with a cart) up the hill; Solitude (Site 6) is situated on the most easterly edge of property past access to all other sites. If it's solitude you seek, this is the spot. Requires a hike (with a cart) up the hill.  Bullfrog Camp (Site 7) This partially shaded camp, close to parking, will welcome you with the sounds of summer as frogs chirp from the pond that this site overlooks.

Over all the farm there are vistas from sunrise to sunset, wildflowers & berries, trails in the woods, a 900' grass runway for aviators and just a lot of plain old peace! ☮

Parking --- limited to 2 cars per camp.   Casey's (2), Darby (5), & Solitude (6) are walk-in ONLY! Wagons are available to haul gear. Parking for walk-in sites must be at trail head. The trail get's too torn up and muddy for car traffic. If you have 2 vehicles, please park in tandem. Sites 1, 3, 4, and 7 are vehicle accessible. For other parking arrangements, contact us via Hipcamp messenger.

*Despite the Hipcamp site stating we are near Harrington Beach and Kohler-Andrae, we are actually 58 miles (over an hr) away. There are many attractions much closer.

Had a great time up on a little hill overlooking the field on site 4! Got in early evening Friday & Allen greeted us while we unpacked & set up. Great little spot, there is a slight incline but very doable. Saturday the tractor was out tilling the field while we cooked brunch, which I enjoyed. It was very warm Saturday & there wasn’t much shade after high noon on the site. We did find shade in the field & were comfortable sitting in nature. We didn’t get to explore much of the land offered here, but would come back again to do so, it was what we were looking for & more!

Site 2 was perfect and secluded. Parking is available, but be wary when it rains a lot—the path can get muddy and tough to get out. Otherwise this was a great location and I would highly recommend!

Purplehaze has to be one of my favorite places to car/tent camp. The sites are all very well maintained, and Darryl is always making upgrades! This was my third time camping here, and despite my experience I got my truck stuck in the mud on the way back to our site. Darryl was extremely kind and helpful, he came by and towed me out with his tractor. Looking forward to returning again and NOT getting my car stuck lol! Thanks for everything Darryl!

We were the first of the season. Our area -#1. Nice spot, good fire pit, clean. Outhouse was close by. If it wasn’t for the weather not cooperating on night two, it would have been a perfect trip. Hopefully we were good guests so we can return.

First time camping thru hipcamp. Darryl was quick with info and helpful all around. I will definitely be back to Purple haze acres. Surrounded by red pines. Beautiful land. Potable water was present at my site although I didn’t use any. Also a Weber grill that was provided.

The land and sites are absolutely beautiful. This was our second time at PurpleHaze. We went the weekend before and enjoyed ourself so much we booked right away for another weekend stay. Our first weekend we camped on Darby #5. The second stay was at Fallen Tower...love, love, loved this spot. The other sites are far enough away that its quiet and secluded. The privy is clean and in great locations. There are trails to walk and also woods to adventure in. The host is very responsive and great with his directions to his location. We checked out the local store while there and the people are so friendly and helpful. Definitely by far our most favorite place to camp. Thank to Alan for the knowledge and tips on the property as well as all the unique edible mushrooms. This is a must visit. The clearing to the open sky at night is incredible. Don't think about it just check it out and enjoy!!!
