COVID19 Update:  Private Bathroom/shower (see below)

* it doesn't get much better than this for group campers.. Riverfront, incredible views, balance of shade and sun, store within a walk..

This bridge site location has a great view of the bridge and river bend. It's the least flood prone site, due to higher elevation, but it's most prone to flood damage as it gets overrun by both river the the creek every year.

It is also along the mighty Stoney Creek, which means you'll be lulled to sleep by the sounds of the creek AND the river

This site is less private than our North and South sites, as it will border river access for kayakers, and within view of our community (dead-end) road. You may also likely hear an occasional car or bike cross the bridge, but traffic dies down pretty close to nothing after dark. We did build an earth berm, and enclosed it with tree trunks to shore site borders, and to allow you to place tents along for additional privacy. It does have a view of the field that is towards the store, and that has the playground, which might be good if you have kids you want to see at the playground.

* deep and shallow spots for fishing and kayaking

* put in upstream for trips ranging from 1h to whole day and camp along the river or tube down to North site through the rapids between hours of 9am and 6pm

* Stoney Creek Country store within walking distance for your basic needs plus pizza, milkshakes, subs, ice creams.. and home of the "best cheese steak you ever had"

* you can burn any driftwood you find (plenty!), but no cutting of trees/vegetation allowed

COVID19 Update: "Private" to site bathrooms. You will be issued a pin code. Two rolls of TP and a roll of paper towels will be provided. The bathroom/shower will be cleaned prior to your arrival. Your group will be responsible for keeping the bathroom/shower stocked for your needs, and as clean and disinfected as you're comfortable for the duration of your stay. The port-a-potty by the store will be a backup option. If going to the store, please wear a mask and review COVID19 guidelines posted at the door.

All long weekends will require 3 night stay (Memorial, Independence, Labor) and have a price premium.

If you'd like to come in earlier than check-in time, you can check with us if we can accommodate, but the best way to reserve that morning is to book additional night.

River Conditions: Google: "national weather gcpw2" for current and forecast river conditions. The river will likely become dangerous to enjoy past 5ft at Cacapon gauge.  "Good" (safe) range is 1.5-4.5ft. Actual river depth varies.

2021 Updates:* There will likely be a new site between South and North called "Rocks", referring to the rapids which the site will be facing. There are about 320-350 feet of shoreline between North and South. We should be able to maintain good privacy for all sites, and river should help minimize any noise

My friends and I really wanted to stay at this campground, but his two campsites online were already booked. I messaged Andrey and he said there was a third campground that wasn't up online yet because it didn't have a private bathroom, but that if we were okay using the port-a-potty by the store we could stay there and he would work to get it all set up! When we got there it was perfect and Andrey was so accommodating! We were right next to the creek and by the river where we were able to swim and fish. I didn't have a fishing rod and Andrey kindly let me borrow one of his! My friends and I had an awesome time and would definitely go back. Cannot recommend enough.

Great 4th of july weekend

Our stay at Andrey's bridge site was wonderful. We stayed for a long weekend over the fourth of July. The site is on a small peninsula overlooking the bridge, with a small, babbling stream on one side and the slow flowing Cacapon River on the other.

Nights were very peaceful at the site. Although you are close to the bridge, there is not much (if any) traffic overnight, and we fell asleep to the sound of the stream, crickets, and bull frogs. We pitched our tent under the big tree for a bit of shade (it's shady throughout the day), so the ground could have been a bit hard, but was totally fine (and flat) with our small, inflatable sleeping pads. There is also a big, soft grassy patch between the car and picnic area that would have been fine to sleep on, too. The spot under the tree was great, we could watch fireflies as we fell asleep and we were well-covered when a bought of rain passed through one night.

The site is as described otherwise--not a ton of privacy, and only use of a port-o-potty, but I know that Andrey is working to plant some bushes and set up a bath house in the future. That being said, the port-o-potty was completely fine for our use, and we were able to feel secluded by pitching our tent closer to the picnic area. It was just two of us with one tent, but the site could easily fit several more people/tents in the grassy area to increase privacy a bit.

The best part about this site was the location. You are steps away from a small store stocked with necessities and local beer, as well as a sandwich shop that makes milkshakes for hot summer days. We brought cheap tubes from Walmart and spent 3 or 4 hours floating down the Cacapon, and Andrey has set up a nice spot to get out of the river directly next to the campsite. The put-in spot is a short ~2 miles. You can drive it and park at the top of a ridge and then hike down to the water (Andrey even offered to get us back to our car at the end of the day since we only had one), but we ended up walking, which wasn't too bad either. On the fourth, several homes along the river set off fireworks shows that we were able to see from our site. Everything was quiet by 10pm or so.

I'm certain we'll be returning, hopefully again this summer. We had a blast and really enjoyed the site.

View of the site from the parking spot. The site included all of the grass between the tree and the picnic area. The view of the bridge from the river access point next to the site. The bridge was very quiet at night, almost no traffic. The view of our camp site set up - we pitched our tent under the tree for shade and cover from rain (less grass, but fine w/ inflatable sleeping pads). The picnic area and fire pit were just beyond that and the stream is between the picnic area & the bridge.

Hi Julia, thanks so much for your review. For all readers of this review, we have since added dedicated access to a bath house to this listing, so this listing has private access to running water toilet and hot shower.

Checked out the other north and south sites and the bridge site is THE best! Direct access to a great swimming hole under the bridge you can cool off in at the end of the day after hiking or canoeing. StoneyCreek camp store had delicious cheese steak sandwiches and strawberry milkshakes and great local beer selection! There was also a trio of fledging screech owls right next to our camp, too!

Andrey was very kind and checked in a couple times the first day to make sure we all got situated and comfortable. The spot was nice and close to a river access point where we swam In shallow water and fished under the bridge (ended up catching some catfish and sunfish). Wifi was also available on the site but we had to go to the store to first connect to it. While there wasn’t a whole lot of privacy, we didn’t find that to be a big deal. Overall a great campsite and definitely would come here again.

We loved our stay! So nice being right on the water. Highly recommend taking advantage of tubing with Andrey, it was a huge highlight for us and a gorgeous river float. It was convenient having the store nearby to grab more firewood, water, supplies etc as needed. Bathroom on site was super clean. Only thing to mention is that based on description and reviews, I knew the site was close to the (quiet) street but didn't realize there would also be trailers within sight line. It didn't bother us at all and still felt like our own space but mentioning in case it helps inform others. Overall, wonderful time and beautiful location tucked into a sweet little WV town.

Andrey came by to say hello when we first arrived to ensure that everything was going well. He stopped by another time to see if there was anything else we needed; the hospitality was appreciated.

The site was described pretty closely to the actual setup. The spot is closest to the site store as well as right by the water. The level of privacy is next to none, though. Even though the entertainment area (picnic table and fire pit) is furthest away from the residential area, it is exposed to the people who live there. The other two sites (north and south) are right next to each other as well. They were occupied, but everyone was respectful of noise level during our stay.

What we enjoyed the most was the convenience of the store, the access to a bathhouse dedicated to our group, and the turkeys on the premise-- one of them was really brave and decided to make itself at home by our tent. The store has a great selection of food and drink. We didn't try any of the food, but we noticed some of the locals stopping by to pick up orders. The view of the bridge was also really lovely. As other visitors stated, the traffic died down at night, so noise wasn't too much of an issue once the sun went down.

Suggestions on how to make the experience special:
- soap in the bathroom
- a piece of literature that gives suggestions on what to do around the area
- adding a grill rack to the fire pit

Thanks for the stay, Andrey!

We added the Bridge site earlier this year due to high demand of groups for riverfront camping, and are fair and upfront in our description of privacy and seclusion of each site, and your review seems to agree it was accurate. Other reviewers add additional detail, which may fill any gaps in expectations. We also list all amenities with descriptions (that does not include soap) The reason we don't include any soap is to reduce touch surfaces (for you and for us) due to COVID. We will encourage all campers to bring own soap moving forward. The comment that North and South site are right next is highly inaccurate. We have 800+ feet of shorelines and only 3 sites, there is about 150ft between Bridge and South, and closer to 300 between South and North, plus tons of trees and bushes. Both South and North are very secluded, and there are plenty of site reviews to support that. The Bridge site further away any other infrastructure than would be on a typical state or commercial campground. We have a little table as an image as part of each site description that compares the sites to aid campers pick a site suitable for them. Local activities are listed on our HipCamp page, and we do stop by and check on campers to provide tips and recommendations.. We will consider creating a physical flyer, as well as grills for next season.
