We are a small, mostly off grid homestead farm with chickens, ducks, pigs, and bunnies, located 1.25 miles off the paved road, over 2 miles from the nearest residence. Our hideaway farm is 80 acres centered on the convergence of two babbling creeks, in a valley between three mountains. We are happy to teach you about our homestead lifestyle or set your campsite and just relax. We practice permaculture and follow organic farming practices. Our Main Circle is where our bonfires, cabana, and home trailer is. You are welcome to camp at the Main Circle where we have electricity or you can camp elsewhere.
Campers are encouraged to camp at Kolb Field along Coon Creek, under a great-grandfather walnut tree or hike the mountain and set camp secluded away from everyone. We have a public dirt road that is seldom traveled through the property, we do suggest having an SUV or 4x4 when coming but, regular cars can get here and we can help you get to your site in our pick up truck. RVs and non-4x4 cars can only get to the camp area during dryer times of the year, please ask if you have a RV. If you have a car that can't get to Kolb Field because of high water, we do have other areas you can camp at. Our farm is a great destination for overland camping and getting your pick up truck a little dirty!
Because we are mostly off grid we do ask that what you pack in please pack out, take your trash with you. Be sure you bring your own mess kit and cup. We prefer that you use aluminum cans for your beverages so we can recycle them for you, we can not recycle plastic or glass. Plus we like to be sure there not broken bottles left behind so we can be bare foot!
We are very dog friendly. You are welcome with your dog. Let us know if you want to play with our happy dogs, and want to have them around your camp!
We ask that you keep your dogs tied or maintain control of your dog. Our three dogs are free roaming, they keep predators away and may lead your dog off too far. If you do let your dog off the lead we are not responsible if they get lost. That being said, our dogs love to play with guests and we are always happy to let you and your dogs interact with them! If you feel this may be a problem for you please let us know and we will leash them so not to be a bother you and your dogs. Don't hesitate to ask us to tie up our dogs, we want you and your pooch to enjoy our property . (But they do need to patrol at night.) Please don't feed our dogs or other animals unless you ask us first, thanks!
If you are a musician we can offer you a FREE stay if you would like to perform at our local Farmers' Market. We have a special relationship with the Sutton Farmers' Market, Saturdays May to Oct 1st 8am to 1pm. There's a stage, we provide a PA, you get a free lunch, and even pass a hat for a little donated pay! Ask us for details!
We LOVE to Bar-B- Que! We offer on weekends and holidays to join us for BBQ dinner at the Main Circle for a small cost per plate, buffet style. We will be creating a Farm to Fork open air restaurant in the near future. Everything, as much as possible, is homemade from scratch (and quite delicious if you ask anyone). Our own BBQ rubs, sauce, we cut wood from our forest for our smoking wood chips, we even grow our own pigs and chickens! Be sure to book the Extra 'Time with the Animals' to see how we grow our own. Holidays are some of the best times to visit if you like to socialize around a camp fire with a beer and good eats. Likely you'll get to meet some of our local hillbilly friends too. Below is a schedule of some of special nights...

Thanksgiving / Deer Hunting Season, You can come have a BBQ'd Turkey dinner with us with all the trimmings!
Deer Hunting season 2020 is Nov. 25th to Dec. 7th (you will see an increase in price since we are so busy) Please be aware that the holler is very active with hunters and our friends. It's a great time to experience West Virginia local culture and learn about hunting. You must be tolerant and comfortable with people with firearms and deer that have been harvested and being butchered for the freezer. We will teach you about deer processing if you like (see Extras). Safety is always first on everyone's minds here and everyone that hunts here are land owners or family that have been hunting here for many, many years.
INSTANT BOOKINGS and SAME DAY, Please take note, we may miss your message because we may be out on the property and not be connected. If we don't respond don't fear, the directions are accurate, please see the map. You are welcome even if we don't get right back to you, come on down and see us!
Covid-19 Certification Note: We expect that all guests set their site with the maximum space possible from other guests. Kolb Field, our central camping area is about a half an acre. Places to see near Coon Creek Cove
If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
We stayed here on a little overlandimg trip. This property is definitely off the beaten path and in the middle of no where! Which is what we wanted!!! Nick was great to talk to, a great host and came to hang with us in the evening for a bit to swap stories. We had constant rain the entire night stay so we couldn't appreciate the land as we would of liked so we will have to come back! We came in to the property through the route that is the creek which was an awesome route. When we left we went the most difficult way which was even a struggle with a built Jeep on 37" tires (this is the route not recommended and we had to use some recovery gear to get through). This property has quite an exciting journey to get to and is so peaceful, definitely worth stopping at for the night!!!
Excellent private camp site
Camp site was amazing, plenty of private open space and a gentle flowing creek adjacent to camp. Nik and Beth were very accommodating, communicated well, prepared and shared an amazing meal with us too. Will definitely recommend and our group will be returning next year. Thanks!!
This is such a cool Overlanding spot! Love the off road drive in and the field we stayed in had a nice fire pit. Sleeping in our off road camper was so quiet on this property! The hostess was so sweet and accommodating! We will be back!
Another fun stay in the holler! We brought in 5 trucks of overlanders for just one evening and had quite the sky of stars. We brought our own firewood and toilet to use but the site had plenty of wood and bucket for biological breaks. Thanks for having us again!
We loved Nik and Beth’s place! My wife and I and our two dogs had a beautiful remote and private trip. Our dogs loved being off leash and got to play with Nik and Beth’s friendly dogs. We will definitely be back again!
Secluded homestead great hosts
Nik and Beth are the best hosts I’ve ever stayed with on hipcamp. They have a long gravel drive that can be quite steep at times so make sure your car can handle that. Our campsite was near the creek and freshly cleared when we got there. Nik and Beth were nice enough to share their bbq dinner with us and talked at length about their life on the homestead. They showed us all their livestock and patiently answered all our questions. You could not ask for nicer or more generous hosts. I hope to come back and stay for longer!
Beautiful field along a babbling stream (crik) not far from the small homestead farm. The hosts are very friendly, happy to have you hang out with them or enjoy solitude in your own space. We enjoyed our stay.
Creek camping with stargazing
Nik and Beth’s campsite was great! We got in late, but they were still accommodating and showed us the site, provided us with the best firewood i’ve ever used, and were very hospitable. Their 3 dogs were friendly and playful. We got to walk around their farm to see their bunnies and pigs, which was lovely. The creek sounds and the stars at night were lovely and made for a wonderful nighttime experience. two things to note: the site we stayed at did not have a grate over the fire to cook and the gravel road to drive to the farm is bumpy…drive slow and carefully. I would highly recommend Nik and Beth’s farm campsite.
