Just minutes away from Cranberry back country ,Cranberry glades, Hillscreek falls and the highland scenic highway. 8 miles off of route 19 where you can enjoy Summersville Lake and Gauley River Whitewater. Just a few miles on down the road to the New River Gorge, where on an October day guests from around the world come to jump off a perfectly good bridge, with parachutes attached of course. To many mountain streams to list all, where I myself enjoy fishing for our state fish Native brook trout. Cell service is sketchy in places, which I consider a plus if you want to enjoy all the beauty. My friend Rick Greene will take you and your family via mules and wagon to trout fish the Cranberry River, where no motor vehicles are permitted. Access only on foot, bike or horse. By appointment at cranberryadventures.com . Numerous walking trails and ATV trails. The Williams, Elk and Cranberry rivers are some of the best trout streams in the eastern U.S.

Awesome place to stay
We so enjoyed our stay. From beginning to end I was so taken in by this place, John and his little dog too. An old campgrounds being brought back to life and much work going on to make it even better. Were other campers as well and while we all kept to ourselves everyone was friendly and fun. Met a handsome older fella looking for help clraning s turkey he had scored. No matter where I ventured to on this property it was spacious and just beautiful. Was glad to see raw materials put to such good use and come out almost as art. We were truly sad to leave. And definitely want to go back again and again. Loved the ducks in the front pond. Definitely fishing next time. And an added bonus is the most organized variety shop across the street. I have many Harvest host favs, but Beaver Lakes is my absolute favorite by far.
A beautiful location & great hosts!
What a beautiful location! It is so close to Summersville Lake and Gauley River. Our hosts were friendly and sooooo helpful as we had rain come in and our van could not make it way up to the top to our campsite on the second night so they quickly relocated us to another beautiful site lower down. The next day they brought us our firewood and a picnic table to our new site and everything was fantastic even with the rain. Shower was available with nice hot water. We enjoyed paddle boarding to Pirates Cove and beyond and the next day we kayaked Summersville lake. A great adventure. We will definitely return to this Hipcamp!
My new place to stay when coming to summersville lake. John was a really nice guy helped us out on our late arrival. The land is beautiful, all around great experience 10/10. Highly recommend
Peace and quiet
THIS PLACE IS A SLICE OF WEST VIRGINIA HEAVEN!! Expect beautiful flora and fauna. Wildlife like birds, butterflies, deer, bunnies and anything else you could imagine! Plenty of different ways to stay. Primitive camping, campers, or a cabin. I only got to stay one night hit I can’t wait to come back!
Not what we expected, then …
Showed up at the campground and asked for any specific pointers on where to put our camper, but was told to just head on back and take our pick, left or right, doesn’t matter. Not knowing what we were getting into or where we were going is a little strange, but we are adults, we can handle it. So, that’s what we did, and found a nice full hook up spot with a good view. Granted, it’s not what we expected based on what we saw online, a bit of a letdown, but it was OK. Unfortunately, I was feeling more and more I’ll, which turned out to be Covid. I went to bed very early, about 8 PM I think, and then heard my wife having an intense discussion with a gentleman who insisted we were in his spot. I was too sick to want to get out of bed, but this gentleman insisted that he had paid for an entire year for that spot and we were in it, he was obviously very upset . My wife eventually was able to withdraw from that conversation, though I don’t think he was very happy. Kind of put a damper on the whole experience, in addition to me being pretty sick. I don’t think we will be returning.
It seems there are many people leasing long-term places there, and not keeping them up very well. Things are laid out a little willy-nilly.
Excellent tent camping!
John has a wonderful piece of land with great views and very private camping sites. Our site was well maintained and felt secluded, our dog had a great time running around the property and ponds. Wonderful host and property!
