Abrams Creek Campground and Retreat brings you as close as possible to pristine nature. Tent sites are generously sized, spaced well apart, shaded, and on soft natural earth. Cabins are secluded and set into the forest.

You are never far from our wild, whitewater stream. In some places, it is a constant source of energy and playfulness; in other places, it is peaceful and calming, inviting you to soak in its beauty.

Camping at Abrams Creek is more like camping in a nature preserve, than in a commercial campground.  On our campground, there are no generators, loud electronics, or other things that would distract from appreciating the sights and sounds of this pristine natural environment.

We have portapotties, and a shower room at the main lodge with hot and cold water.  All sanitary facilities are *sterilized* between guests; we have taken every measure to safeguard your health!

Campsites and cabins are well spaced out, so that there is never a feeling of crowding.   Many are riverside sites; you can choose between wild whitewater, rushing river, and wider calmer areas. All campsites are soft, level, shaded forest floor with a picnic table, fire ring, and block-and-board bench. We sell charcoal, charcoal lighter, propane, fire starter, and firewood, if you need any of these, all at very competitive prices.  In particular, please do not bring your own firewood.  This can spread many tree diseases that can harm our beautiful forests!

Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash when outside your tent. Most other pets are not allowed; please call if you have specific questions.

We also rent charcoal grills and propane stoves.  The campground has 20 acres of hemlock forest bordered by a wild whitewater stream.  Some areas are boulders, pools, and turbulent water—great to watch or play in.  One large area towards the end of the campground is a calm wading area good for children (with careful supervision of course), and just past that is a deeper section, 5’-7’ deep, that is good for swimming.

There is not WiFi on the campground, but there is WiFi in the vicinity of the main lodge house.  There is also a phone you can use on the lodge porch, with free calls to anywhere in the US, in case your cell phone does not have reception. When you arrive, please come to the main lodge to register--just bear to the left as you enter the grounds.

You are welcome on the grounds anytime that day, but your campsite will not be available until 3 pm.  If you will be arriving after 8 pm, please call when you are on your way so we know about what time to expect you. . Check-out time is 1 pm  on your last day with us.

We offer a variety of accommodations to suit every taste: for those who like roughing it, we have tent sites, and rustic cabins with or without electricity.  For those who would like sheets, blankets, and towels provided and full cooking facilities, we have a six-bedroom guest house, and a 2-bedroom retreat cottage with full kitchen, bath, washer/dryer, and more. We also have a conventional motel 3 miles from the campground.

Gorgeous, peaceful setting. I loved falling asleep to the sound of the creek. Campsites are a good distance apart from each other so it feels secluded. Definitely appreciated that there was a potable water source and hot showers. Would love to have spent more time here!

Beautiful location. The campsites are clean and well-spaced. The port-a-johns (at least the one near our site) could stand to be pumped out more often, but otherwise great place.

Really liked this campsite - it's well wooded and sheltered, and has been left as natural as practical. Found sites fairly easy to get a small camper trailer into. Toilet was clean and well cared for. Host is friendly and helpful - we sat down and chatted about the world until rain chased me back to my camp.

Awesome campground! Every site looked fantastic. I loved staying right on the river and we had a lot of room for us too!

5 stars on the seclusion of the sites & the creek was pretty, but everything was outdated & dirty & the host was super worried about covid. When we arrived he talked to us through a closed door, reading off a long list of saftey protocols. If they are worried about sanitation I'd start at the smelly front office. Key for the shower had to be returned between people so it could be sanitized ect ect. This is a primitive camping experience, people just want to get out & enjoy nature. Let it go man.

This was the best place I have been camping yet in the DMV area.

It was better than advertised. I stayed at one of the walk-in tent sites that was next to an audible running stream. It made for a perfect site.

The host was very attentive and well-informed.

Beautiful spot, right on the river. Relaxed by the fire, cooked dinner and just listened to water. Perfect.

Well-run small campground with beautiful sites. I was able to choose a secluded site right next to rapids on the creek, and it was a lovely solo retreat for my dog and me. While having porta-a-potties is less than ideal, they were very clean and the handwashing stations convenient; I don't mind fewer amenities for a nice campsite. I appreciated all the info I received from the young woman who checked me in, as well as the free wifi around the lodge house and the COVID precautions taken. When a friend called to check on me (hey, I DID say I was getting off the grid and that generous 1pm checkout time was nice), she came to my campsite to give me the message. I plan to come back and use this campground as a base to explore more of the area.
