Our 40-acre campground is adjacent to our main sustainability research center. It is completely isolated from the world at large. Our forest is located in a transitional zone where you'll see Douglas fir and Ponderosa pine growing side by side among century-old oak trees.  From here you can tube the wild Klickitat, hike the alpine slopes of Mt. Adams or windsurf the Columbia.

This place wasn't for us. We expected everything to be in full swing (just as the listing said it was - full showers, ample camping, firewood, etc.), but sadly the camp wasn't in full swing at all.

Here's a little advice for the owner. Even though it isn't camping season right now, do your part and update your listing to reflect the current state of the camp. And when someone orders firewood ahead of time, do your best to remember and have it ready for them when they arrive.

This was our second visit to Herland Forest, and i know I'll be back for a very long stay again in the future as I've selected my plot in their natural burial cemetery. Beautiful forest. Beautiful, peaceful stay.

Was a good place for us to spend a night. The location is very remote so if you’re looking to get away from everything, this is the right place.

Beautiful & quiet land. Walt was super responsive & helpful, he even came lead me to my campsite at 1030/11pm as my travel got a bit delayed. I wish I could have enjoyed the campsite a bit more but I arrived late & had to leave early.

This place is ideal for anyone who absolutely loves to be far away from civilization. It was the most quiet place I have ever been in, although our visit was very quick as we were passing through to another spot on a long road trip. I do have to say that the shower I had that night was the BEST shower of my life! Amazing after a long journey to walk into a peaceful forest and have your own private shower with beautifully strong and hot water pressure. Thanks, Walt, and best of luck on all your projects.

Walt discussed recruiting women in their 20s to join his commune with our camp group of three women. He mentioned this several times and discussed a need for younger women’s sexual vitality because his community is too male dominant, which made us feel uncomfortable. Asked us to refer young women who are looking to leave the rat race. While I can get behind leaving the rat race, this conversation was unwarranted, offensive, and offputting. Also the roosters woke us up at 4:30am both mornings, which is no one’s fault but did disrupt our sleep. The campsite is pretty and the area is very nice otherwise, but I have a hard time recommending this location to women.

Our stay was incredible! Hot shower among the trees was a highlight, we were joined by a little froggy friend. We were happy to have a tour and walkthrough of the sustainable burials, and the respect and care for this land is evident on the property.

This was a great place for camping and Walt was a fantastic host who takes great care of the site. There were some other campers as well at the other spots and everything was super well set up for everyone to easily share communal things, but still have enough privacy between spots. It was our first time in this beautiful area and we would definitely come back, Walt was a great host who made us feel very welcome at a very well run setup.
