We had a blast camping down in the pine grove and celebrating a birthday. It had some privacy and was great for our group. Amy was a great host - we met with her the week before and she happily showed us around. She was very accommodating and definitely wanted us to enjoy ourselves. Lyle is a beautiful place and quite a bit drier than the western part of the state. I would definitely camp there again.
Friendly hosts, spectacular view
Amy and Aaron were unbelievably friendly and provided good amenities with access to cooking stuff, spices, etc. The port-a-john was unfortunately full, but Amy apologized that the service hadn't showed up to empty it, and she offered that we could use the bathroom in the house or trailer if we preferred. (We didn't. Honestly, the port-a-john wasn't as bad as others I've used before.) They couldn't have been more gracious hosts -- even when our dog had an incident with one of their animals.
The meadow is great for sleeping under the stars, if you're so inclined. There's a great look at the Big Dipper. If not, the wooded area provides great shade for sleeping in a cooler spot. And the views to the north of Mount Addams were simply spectacular.
All in all, this was a great location and a great camping trip.
We made a last minute booking for the first weekend this site was up and running - something we would not have done had Amy not been so responsive to our questions and eager to help. This continued when we arrived - they were definitely still figuring it out, but doing so in the most open and generous way possible. The unique element of this property is that you could be entirely on your own with your group, or part of the communal space as much as you wanted to. They'd set up a lovely "outdoor living room" with a wading pool for kids and perfect stargazing furniture, regularly replenished water and communal cooking supplies, and welcomed our kids into their garden to see the chickens and pigs.
Our group was the first to arrive and had a great spot under the shade of a small oak grove; there are a couple shaded spots farther from the communal area, and several that are quite exposed on the top of the hill of the property. We would have been bummed to have no cover, but it didn't seem to bother others. There was plenty of space for the 5 or 6 groups to not be bothered by each other at all.
Amy and Aaron are wonderful hosts and we hope to be back to see what they create in their space.
