Learn more about this land: Welcome to ThorneBrook Farms! Set on a working grass-based farm, our sites offer privacy and farm views. Campsite grounds include a fire pit, hammock, and dog lead. Landscape lighting is scattered about the camp area for better lighting at night, trails for that evening stroll, and the farm road guests arrive on that doubles as a trail. House broken, well behaved + well kept dogs are welcome to the farm. We ask that they be up to date on rabies shots and flea/tick treatments. A dog bed and water/food bowls are provided inside the glamping tent. All dogs must be on a leash and should not be left unattended at the campsite nor left behind for the day. We also do not allow aggressive breeds of dogs on the property (pit bulls, etc.) Our campsite offers complete privacy in the woodlands of our farm. SOME ADD-ONS AVAILABLE (add at check-out): - 2-person tent with an air mattress is available for a fee. This will enable you to bring some friends who may not have their own gear. Simply add the tent rental during checkout. **Note - guests using the additional tent will need to bring their own sleeping bags, pillows, blankets.** - Farm Food! We raise grassfed beef, lamb, and non-GMO pork all of which are available for purchase (inventory allowing).  THE BACKSTORY: We are Brooks and Jil Davis. We are 1st generation farmers practicing our skills since 2006. In 2017, we bought a really cool abandoned farm to call our own and started the task of renovating it. The home dates back to the 1850s and we are only the 3rd family to own it!  The house once served as the post office (and hotel at times) for the area from 1856 - 1955 and it's also rumored that it once was a boarding school. A railroad ran in front of our home until the early 1900s; that railway is now the current Route 13 (or Old Buckingham Road). We've completed the first phase of house renovations, built farm infrastructure for our livestock, and are now offering you an opportunity to stay here on the farm. With many more projects to come, we hope that over time our property will become more and more of a haven and fun place to stay for our guests.  RECOMMENDED ITEMS TO BRING: Cooler for your own food storage  Ice  Insect repellent  Sunscreen Warm PJs - In the fall, you'd be surprised how cold you get at night! In the summertime, you should be fine in shorts/tank top clothing. Towels and Wash Cloths for Showering Toiletries - Shampoo, Toothpaste, Soap Drinking Water Flip Flops for Showering Butter OTHER NOTES: In the event of rain, an AWD or 4WD vehicle is recommended for driving to the campsite. Walking to the campsite is also very doable and we can help cart your things to the site. SAMPLE ITINERARY FOR YOUR ADVENTUROUS STAY:  Day One - Arrive at our farm (check-in is from 4-6:30pm), settle in, get a campfire going, cook up some grub, lounge in the hammock, take a deep breath + let go of whatever has been stressing you during the week. Take a walk on our trails to help burn off some of that stress, too.  Day Two - Wake up and cook some breakfast (bacon + eggs sounds amazing...). Then, head to Cumberland Coffee Co. for a cuppa joe at a very cute shop. Then...      Option 1: Go to Farmville for the day... rent bikes and ride the High Bridge Trail, do a little shopping on Main Street and eat lunch out.       Option 2: Go to Bear Creek Lake State Park for a day of swimming, boating, kayaking, fishing, hiking, etc.  Come back to base camp here at the farm to cook an awesome dinner. Then, hunker around the campfire. Smores should be a part of that picture. Day Three - Sleep in a bit and lounge around camp with camp coffee and brekkie until it's time to head back home (check out is at 11 am). Area Attractions + Places We Recommend:  Cumberland Coffee Co. (the farmwife's fav cafe hot spot - approx 7 min away)  Maxey's Store (Powhatan - 18 min away) Bear Creek Lake State Park (Cumberland - approx 15 min away) El Jinete Mexican Restaurant (Cumberland - approx 12 min away)  Three Crosses Distillery (Powhatan - 18 min away) High Bridge Trail (Farmville is 25 min away)  Catbird Rooftop (Farmville is 25 min away) Uptown Cafe (Farmville - 25 min away)

Poplar Hill: Private Farm Campsite
I loved staying at the farm! Directions and communication were very clear and the amenities (shower, bathroom, firewood, hammock, dog lead, etc) were extremely helpful in not having to pack as much. The site was clean and cozy with short walking trails on the property. Would definitely stay again!

Poplar Hill: Private Farm Campsite
Beautiful site. Private, clean, everything you need in one place. It was great to be able to purchase meat and wood at the property - made for an extra special trip. Nice to explore around the site through the cleared trails. Will be returning!

Glamping on Poplar Hill
My first glamping experience and it may have ruined me from traditional camping for life. Loved the experience, the attention to detail, and the privacy! Rest assured that glamping is still camping - but your own outdoor shower? Not having to lug every camping necessity? A real bed?! Perfection.

Glamping on Poplar Hill
Great experience glamping at Poplar Hill. Nice ambiance in the tent and appreciated the thoughtful amenities including supplies for s’mores. The hanging lights in the tent were very nice. Bathroom is a portapotty, but it was a step up from the woods.

Glamping on Poplar Hill
I’m
Gorgeous glamping in Virginia. The nicest setup I’ve seen on hipcamp so far. Excellent shower with hot (almost too hot) water, good pressure, and stone drainage. Tent was decked out with solar string lights, a comfortable bed, and a sitting space. Hammock and lounge chair outside were great to sit and watch the fireflies.

Glamping on Poplar Hill
Rainy but fun
Everything was perfect except the weather, but we were able to stay dry and have fun in the glamping tent in spite of the rain.
