Amazing property and great hosts!
We booked The Big Dipper Ranch camp sites 1 and 2 had a fantastic time! From start to finish, we had a great experience. We loved meeting Jud and his wife who greeted us and showed us around the beautiful property. They were extremely accommodating and even opened the camp a week early for us so we could celebrate our son's birthday. You can certainly tell they love this property through their attention to detail. The tents are stunning, and the beds are as comfortable as our beds at home! There is a brand new compost toilet and pump sink which was nice to have in the woods! The pond is down the hill from the site and is nice and shaded and also has a wooden, floating dock. It is fully stocked with fish, and we catch at least 20 during our stay (one really big bass!). The fire pit in the evening was so much fun, and the star grazing was phenomenal (saw the rings of Saturn and moons of Jupiter with our telescope). We were honored to be the first guests to this beautiful property, and we are already looking at dates for our return. Thank you to Jud and his family for sharing this special place with us!
This experience was sensational and exceeded all of our expectations. Jud was the best host, we shared the property with another group but still felt completely alone. Beautiful starry skies (lived up to its namesake as the Big Dipper Ranch) exceptional location and while the fish never quite materialized for us it was one of the best trips we have had. The accommodations are great - the bed was very comfortable and there was plenty of room in the tent for a pack & play for our toddler and a dog crate. Also a compostable toilet and a camp shower for the true glamping experience. Close to great hiking and a cute winery/brewery right down the street. We will definitely be back!
Glamping at it's finest.
We had a fantastic experience staying at the Big Dipper Ranch! Jud and Lisa were excellent hosts. Their glamping site had everything we could ask for. Also, the location was perfect for us. It was a short drive to Old Rag Mountain and Whiteoak Canyon. We highly recommend this site for anyone who loves camping, but also a super comfortable bed! We definitely plan to return on our next visit to the Shenandoah Valley!
Awesome summer weekend
The Big Dipper Ranch is awesome. Me, my girlfriend, and our doggo had a great weekend. We can't wait to be back in the fall. Some highlights below:
- Judd was a friendly, very attentive host
- Beautiful large property (the dog loved it too)
- Nice, well kept tent (comfortable bed!)
- Within a stone's throw to winery/brewery and great Shenandoah hikes
- The tent shower (great water pressure!)
- Incredible stargazing!
- There was a heat wave while we were there (95+ degrees most of the day), but the on premise pond definitely helped us cool off ;)
Great time and place! We loved everything!! The hudge telescope is amazing! The exterior shower and compost toilet was clean and very easy to use! The pond is also a very nice place to enjoy !
The tent was very clean and well decorated !
I recommend that place!!
Wow! What a great weekend at Jud and Lisa’s property. They really love this little slice of heaven and it shows in all the details. The bed was more comfortable than by bed at home! There was netting under the floor of the tent so no bugs could get through. Lanterns and flashlight were provided as well as dry firewood. Jud left his enormous telescope on the property and I was able to view the full moon and Saturn! The location is unbeatable with winery/brewery right down the street, orchards and farm stands galore and very easy access to Shenandoah. Jud was always available to help with directions or recommendations and even brought me a map one day to help as cell coverage is very spotty. Overall a fantastic place to stay! Can’t wait to return!
Connecting in a great way.
My family and I recently visited Big Dipper Ranch tent 2 and it was a great experience. The host and his family were helpful, kind, respectful, and just seemed to overflow with positivity and we think the remote campground reflected this as well. The tent was very clean and spacious and the air was so fresh each morning. It was just exhilarating to wake up to fresh, mountainous air. But oh my word, the stars at night took our breath away. Jud even has a super huge telescope that we used to stargaze and to see Jupiter with 4 of its moons and Saturn and its rings. Amazing. We are thankful for this opportunity to connect to nature and our family.
Old rag camping weekend
Jud's spot was perfect for a weekend of camping after hiking old rag. Everything was clean and as listed and Jud was incredibly responsive and helpful! His packing list and videos were wonderful and the pond was a lovely treat after hiking. Will definitely be back!
