Primitive, private, and beautiful open camping. We have 100+ acres of mostly-wooded land nestled between two mountain ranges in the Appalachian mountains, on a south-facing slope of about 5 degrees. There are some open fields for camping, and plenty of firewood that can be freely gathered. PLEASE NOTE: You will NOT be able to reach all camping areas if you have a low clearance compact vehicle!! However there are areas to camp that are accessible—just not as scenic. A primitive composting toilet is available. A water spigot is available. For now, campers can choose from a variety of locations to pitch a tent in the open areas, or explore the woods (if they can find a flat, non-rocky location for tent!). There are many isolated spots from which you won't be able to see any other homes. Generally, it is very quiet except for wildlife, and the stars are bright on a moonless night. We have trails throughout our land and multiple rushing rocky mountain streams to explore. There are several popular trailheads nearby: one about 3 minutes away to Pinnacle Rock, and another at The Channels (voted best hike in Virginia) about 30 minutes away. A country kitchen is down the road about 5 miles. You can gather firewood from any fallen trees, or if you want to stop by our house, we will give you some split firewood for free.

Our host was very helpful and responsive as well as answered all of our questions clearly and to the fullest extent. The campgrounds was super easy to get to with many scenic views as well as mountain views and including pond views/stream views overall it was a super pleasant campsite and extremely easy to navigate

David was very responsive before we arrived, and then once there, made a point to check in to see that we were comfortable, gave us the lay of the land, but also gave us a lot of space. It was a perfect combination. His land is beautiful. While he does cut swaths, he also keeps much of the property beautifully naturalized. Lovely pond; woods, Meadowlands. This was my first Hipcamp experience, and I can't imagine a better place to begin. Thank you, David!

Creeping Thyme was really lovely, easy to get to, and had a beautiful site with firewood ready to go! Thank you! Fun motorcycle destination if you have an on/off road motorpickle.

David’s land was beautiful. We got lucky and were the only ones there. We roamed the trails with our dogs and took short day trips to Pinnacle, devils bathtub and the channels. The dogs had the time of their lives roaming the acres and the site itself was super peaceful with the stream In the background. There were thousands of fireflies every night and the campfire area was a nice touch. We would absolutely stay here again!!

David is a very nice and helpful! His land is beautiful and helped us to find the best spot on the property. It was gorgeous and would definitely like to return. (Especially if port-a-potties were installed) 😉

Wild camping for sure - but worth it for me for the privacy and to be able to let my dog off leash. We spent over an hour hiking around and exploring the property in the morning and my dog loved the freedom to roam! David was extremely prompt with replies and very helpful.
