Primitive, private, and beautiful open camping. We have 100+ acres of mostly-wooded land nestled between two mountain ranges in the Appalachian mountains, on a south-facing slope of about 5 degrees. There are some open fields for camping, and plenty of firewood that can be freely gathered. A primitive composting toilet is available. A water spigot is available. For now, campers can choose from a variety of locations to pitch a tent in the open areas, or explore the woods (if they can find a flat, non-rocky location for tent!). There are many isolated spots from which you won't be able to see any other homes. Generally, it is very quiet except for wildlife, and the stars are bright on a moonless night. We have trails throughout our land and multiple rushing rocky mountain streams to explore. There are several popular trailheads nearby: one about 3 minutes away to Pinnacle Rock, and another at The Channels (voted best hike in Virginia) about 30 minutes away. A country kitchen is down the road about 5 miles.

Great site for your adventures!
David was great! He reached out a few days before to see if we had any questions and that we knew how to get there. It was a little tricky to find the right driveway, but David had given us landmarks, so we knew we were close!
The campsite is pretty private, it sits back off the main road and is not close to the main house either. David has mowed the area for us a few days before. There is a composting toilet right off the site which was perfect, also there is a water pump that is city water.
The site was perfect for our adventures. We were 40 minutes to Damascus, where we launched for our Creep Trail ride, and then 30 minutes to hike the Channels, which were amazing.
David also invited the kids up for goat milking, unfortunately, we never were organized enough to make it up there!
Creeping thyme weekend
What a beautiful property with plenty of space and privacy. So close to so many wonderful places and activities. David was an excellent host, offering recommendations for places to explore and helping us get set up. It was a wonderful weekend and we will definitely be back!
Staying at David’s property was wonderful! It is beautiful and well maintained. It hosts over 75 acres of peaceful countryside with a pond, creek (on neighboring property but having the sound lull you to sleep was excellent), and cool boulder fields. Open skies in the field and low light pollution in case you are into astrophotography. My husband and I had the whole place to ourself; absolutely serene. The location is close to many attractions such as the Channels (approx. 20 minutes) and a large waterfall. David’s communication was super and prompt. He provided excellent directions, a satellite view map, and made sure we had a great stay.
We took our 5 year old twins camping for the first time and they had a wonderful time! Beautiful property with lots of area to run and play! David was great and very accommodating! The girls are already wanting to plan another trip to go back!!
