Although we fully support everyone's right to make their own choices about their health, we are asking that all campers 16 years and older be fully vaccinated in order to stay at our farm. This is for the security and health of our family, employees, and other visitors with whom you would be sharing land and facilities during your time here.***
This campground features stunning, panoramic views of the First Branch of the White River in the verdant hills of central Vermont. It overlooks the shire town of Orange County, Chelsea, Vermont.
Free Verse Farm is a hilltop herb farm run by two art-making, herb-loving farmers. The property boasts twenty sloping, knoll-laden, open acres overlooking the First Branch of the White River as it passes through the scenic village of Chelsea, Vermont. We have incredible views, forest trails that offer magical woodland wanderings, and spacious campsites in our fields.
We also invite you to explore our cultivated fields of herbs and vegetables and become acquainted with the wide variety of tea, culinary, and medicinal herbs that we grow and process on our farm. You can also visit with the cows that spend their summer munching our delicious green pastures.
Our full line of herbs and herbal products are for sale via our website or at Free Verse Farm Shop, located just one mile from our farm in downtown Chelsea. Our Farm Shop offers a wide variety of fresh produce, provisions, fresh baked goods, beverages, and more to enjoy during your stay or as you continue on your journey.
AMENITIES: we offer a hot outdoor shower & sink, as well as an outhouse with a composting toilet. Each campsite has a firepit and a picnic table.
CAMPSITE DETAILS: We currently have one campsite open. It is located in our upper meadow with beautiful views of the First Branch Valley and Chelsea village. 4 wheel drive is recommended, but not necessary, and you are always welcome to hike up to your site. Each site is spacious and private.
LOCAL ATTRACTIONS: In the Fall of 2021, just one mile from our farm, we opened Free Verse Farm Shop (open: W-F 12-6, Sat 9-30), a local grocery, café, and apothecary to serve our community and visitors to the area, while supporting local farms and artisans. The village of Chelsea hosts a weekly summer farmers market May-September on Fridays from 3-6pm (mid-May through September). In downtown Chelsea there is also a pub (The Wagon Wheel), gas station (110 Quickstop), two town commons, a small library, and a general store (Will's Store). Within 20-45 minutes of our farm you can reach the larger towns of Montpelier (state capital), South Royalton, Randolph, Woodstock, White River Junction, and the Upper Valley Region (Dartmouth College), all of which offer a wide variety of attractions and services. Upon your arrival, you will be given a welcome packet with more detailed information about our area, and we'll be happy to provide you with any other tips you're looking for.
We look forward to hosting Hipcampers and sharing our love of this land, and our region, with all who visit. We can't wait to meet you!

Another great stay
This was our second time staying at freeverse and just as great as the first. The view is truly unbeatable and the campsite is wonderful. Misha is such a great host as well. Can’t wait to go back!
We loved our stay at Free Verse Farm! We couldn’t get over how amazing it was the whole time. Soooo much better than staying at a traditional public camp site. The views were incredible! The hot shower (located outside though) was so nice. Composting toilet was easy to use. Misha has a wonderful family that we enjoyed chatting with. We loved every minute of our stay here and would love to come again in the future. Such a beautiful place!
we got this place last minute which felt like a miracle especially because when we arrived it was OUR DREAM. Friendly host, most beautiful little nook of central Vermont. The view was insane, it felt like a dream. This place has everything you could want as long as you have everything you need to be up on a hilltop meadow! Highly recommend, we will be back!!!
Can't wait to go back!
Absolutely beautiful land and campsite. We were greeted by Taylor. She was very friendly and welcoming. She told us everything we needed to know and left us to enjoy ourselves. We walked the trails, checked out the gardens, watched the cows. Just lovely. The town was cute with a general store that had everything you could ever need. Had fun chatting with the woman who worked there. Private and peaceful. Best decision we made was staying at Free Verse Farm instead of your typical campground. We will definitely be back!
Great location to disconnect
Beautiful camp. Misha and his family are great hosts allowing free roam of the farm. Great place to disconnect and revisit a time when people were nice to each other. Not really the location you would want to go to visit attractions but if you are looking for solitude or a place to enjoy nature I definitely recommend Free Verse Farm.
We were not able to visit Misha’s shop in town but we stopped in town and what a place!!! People in Chelsea still wave to one another and smile and say hi. I couldn’t believe driving by a local cemetery and seeing volunteers mowing grass. This may be the place to bring a young child so they can experience nature and show them a different way of life.
When you are in town do yourself a favor and visit Chicken Wiggle Farm. It will add to the experience of community and the sweet corn is incredible!!
