This IS the Wild, Rustic, Dirty Desert, not for Everyone. This is Camping & keep in mind this is a rugged camping experience not for the faint at heart. The desert is Hot in the summer and cold in the winter, the weather is Unpredictable and you May experience our Wild storms...Monsoon season runs from July-August which is amazing if you are into photography. Be sure to bring proper gear for the rain (if we get any).
You may hear coyotes, see spiders, experience the annoying desert gnats at certain times of the day during the hotter summer season. You will want to bring bug spray, but if you forgot we do sell it in our camp store. If you stay with us you will get the experience of desert camping, wild, raw and rugged. It is an amazing experience to be had, with beautiful views and the feeling of freedom that is hard to find in more civilized and populated locations.
The rocks nearby are kid friendly, great for climbing and taking amazing photos of our fantastic views and gorgeous sunsets.

I recently traveled to Canyonlands Needles district to explore this other worldly landscape. My backcountry and day hiking outings in the park where made even more successful given my basecamp being established at the Needles Outpost! I absolutely loved my campsite there. The surrounding landscape, the sunsets, the quiet, the night sky and certainly the hosts Amber and Caleb made my week there unforgettable! They provide a very welcoming experience as well as showers, firewood, food etc. I had an issue with firewood and Amber got to it and demonstrated her wood chopping skills. We had some rain which created a bit of a road washout and Caleb showed up with his pickup and had my back! I look forward to returning one day and hope all is well with those guys! Thanks again Donnie Darko
Great view of the needles sunset
The View of the Needles campsite is just that, beautiful view of the Needles to the West in Canyonlands National Park. There are sites up against large rocks with some tree cover and sites more out in the open. Enjoyed meeting Amber. Recommend this site highly to self sufficient campers.
Owner wouldn’t help anyone
Although the scenery was beautiful, our experience with Amber and The Outpost was disappointing.
Many times after our reservation was made we were told we had to be there by 5:00pm NO EXCEPTIONS. We arrived at 3:45 to a note on the door that they had gone to get supplies to repair their road. We continued to wait at the “store”. About 4:30, Amber steps out of her RV about 50 years away and yells over that she is not going to help anyone. She has been working so hard for the last two months and we were all on our own. She said her husband would be back the next day. So no one was able to get tokens for the showers, wood or gas. There was a group of kids who were there because they desperately needed gas and they weren’t getting any from The Outpost. All in all, very disappointing behavior from a business owner.
This campsite is amazing! Beautiful view and the convenience to the Needles District of Canyonlands is unmatched. Facilities were excellent and Amber was a superb host! I will definitely be staying here on my next trip to Canyonlands!
Recommending the stay depends on the person. It's beautiful and conveniently located right next to the Needles district of Canyonlands. We enjoyed the views and being able to climb the rocks up behind our site. However, this is a very remote location, so basic amenities come at a cost. They do have a store with general supplies and showers ($3 per token) with hot water. For someone that likes well kept amenities and to be closer to town, this might not be the place for you. Also, sound bounces off the rock walls making it sound like the people next to you are right in your campsite, so if others don't obey the 9-9 quiet time it could be annoying. However, we overall enjoyed our experience here and for those that just need a good place to camp near Canyonlands I would recommend it . Amber and Caleb were very friendly as well, but they could use some extra help running the site it seems.
Sadly I could not go at the last moment due to a family emergency at home. This host has a 30 day advance notice for a refund, so I was not expecting a refund. However, as a courtesy, I contacted the host to let them know I would not be there but never heard back.
