Are you looking for a secluded adventure? Is being remote a priority? Then we are looking forward to you camping with us! We are recently acknowledged Gold Star hosts! You won't just see the mountains at a far distance, but will be completely surrounded by mountain ranges!
What you should know:
- High clearance not always needed but recommended.
- 360° panoramic views!
- You need good tires to safely get to the campsite. You will travel about 7 miles down dusty dirt roads to get to your campsite. These roads are maintained by Terlingua Ranch and can vary wildly from smooth 25 mph conditions to high clearance only with bad rains. Contact Brad if you have concerns about road conditions.
- Composting toilet. We've converted a brand new Porta-potty into a composting toilet. To keep it out of your sight it's a short walk away from the campsite.
- This campground is private and remote but conveniently located within 15-20 minutes of Terlingua Ranch Lodge and the Bad Rabbit Cafe. They are well stocked with great food, Wi-Fi, ice, beer, and other necessities.
- This is an off grid campground. If you are looking to unplug, this place is for you. Please remember to bring whatever you need for a complete boondocking experience, such as water, fuel, shade etc.
- You can view Mule deer, Javalina, lots of birds, and the unique desert plants.
- We strive to provide a campsite that is equal to, if not better, than the state and national park campsites.
- This looks close to the park on the map, but there are mountains that you have to drive around to get to either entrance. The drive to the Study Butte entrance is about 1 hour (I make this drive 5 times a week). If you have 4X4 and high clearance you can get to the 385 entrance in about 1 hour 15 minutes. (Ask Brad about this route.)
- Best to arrive before dark.
- You have access to the amenities at Terlingua Ranch Lodge, located about 4 miles away. The Bad Rabbit Café serves good food. (Hours fluctuate with COVID and seasons, but in general are open 7 AM to 7 PM and as late as 8-9PM on the weekends). Also, during the summer you can buy a key from the Lodge to swim in the pool ($5/day). At the pool you can have a hot shower.
- If there's no burn ban, you may have a small fire. You can have use a camp stove to cook with during a fire ban.
- The owners home is located nearby, but out of sight. If you have an emergency, the house has a landline and other resources you might need.
If you've read this far and this doesn't scare you off, we are looking forward to hosting your camping adventure!

My wife and I stayed at both sites over a period of 4 days (#1 first night & #2 second thru fourth nights). Great spots with mountain views in all directions! Peaceful and quiet. Hosts are terrific, friendly, and very responsive. Compost toilet is kept clean and in nice private area. Lots of wildlife. Can do some hiking up the road and near-by as well. If you’re visiting BBNP, these spots offer road access points to both the east (385) and west (118) entrance. Convenient to access to Study Butte town and also Terlingua Ranch lodge. We did a lot of backcountry exploring and off road trails so this site was great to head off in either direction depending on where we were heading each day. Highly recommend!

We had the opportunity to stay at Perdido #2 while exploring Big Bend National Park and the surrounding area. We loved the site; it was quiet, large, peaceful, and had stunning views. We travel frequently and consider ourselves blessed to have immersed ourselves in America's most majestic and breathtaking landscapes. This area did not disappoint; there is something unique and extraordinary about the Christmas Mountains. Bradley was extremely friendly, and we enjoyed our conversation.
We also enjoyed our encounter with the Mule deer in the morning. We look forward to returning to Perdido and further exploring the area!
We had a great stay! The owner is extremely knowledgeable of the land and local wildlife. It is definitely worth the hour drive to Big Bend. This site is more than just a campsite, is it an experience. You’re at the base of mountains with incredible views. For this site being primitive, the porter potty is very clean and well maintained.

Absolutely LOVED camping at Perdido. Incredible views, plenty of privacy, and Bradley was lovely. Can’t wait to go back again.

This is one of the best campsites I have ever been to, inclusive of both established and disbursed sites. I was looking for the closest to disbursed camping that you can find in West Texas. Initially I was hesitant to book because some of the photos in the the listing gave me the impression that you would be parking and camping next to a picnic table and a porta potty. I am so glad I booked because that is not the case. Quite the contrary. This is one of the few listings where the site exceeds the description. This is quite frankly one of the most picturesque sites I have ever camped. And I camp a lot across the country. The site is in a basin surrounded by mountain peaks. This property has one of the best landscapes in the entire Terlingua Ranch. Bradley is a great host. Super personable, chill and helpful. And despite my initial primitive camper snobbery, I found both the picnic table and the compost toilet, which is hidden from view in a ravine, to be an asset to the property.
One of the most pleasant camping experiences we’ve had. Picture perfect setting. Sites are spacious and well maintained. Bradley is a super host. He gave us a lot of good recommendations for drives in and out of the park that were wonderful. We originally booked for two nights and the added more on the fly we liked it so much.
This land is beyond gorgeous, so quiet yet full of life. The hosts are wonderful, kind, welcoming and respectful. The sky is never ending and magical. Can't wait to visit again.
My boyfriend and I LOVED this spot! Very nice camp spot with amazing views! The hosts were very friendly and greeted us at arrival but gave us space and privacy throughout the stay! They graciously allowed us to hike on their land and we got to explore all its beauty!
We were se excited to see so much wildlife from the hike and the campspot (havelinas & deer)
You need to stay here! Don’t miss out ;) we can’t wait to come back!
