We can host up to two van or ten campers at Cupgrass. The site slopes gently to a wooded pecan bottom where kayaks and fishing poles, swim hole and fire pit are provided to guest. Desert and riparian ecosystems collide for an astonishing variety of plants and animals. This river has a cult following among birders and insect lovers.
We host only two van campers and one cabin here to keep the space intimate.
Kayaks are provided.
A shuttle fee upriver is an additional $30 per person. You may then paddle back to the site! Fishing equipment is provided: replace it if you break it. Eggs and local honey are usually available for purchase.
Fires are allowed only at the common fire pit and cooking area. Occasionally all fire is prohibited.
Humans have been living on this site for over 7,000 years. It is a profoundly peaceful spot; although not a quiet one. The area hums with birdsong, bees, snorting deer and running water. Traffic from the highway is audible. At night you can hear the rapids.
Dogs are allowed on leashes; but barking dogs, even in your van, will not be allowed to remain. Be mindful of the many desert critters that jab, sting or stick to fur here when walking your dog.
You may pitch and additional tent or awning alongside your camper.
Cupgrass is a welcoming and receiving community and diversity is celebrated here.

This is really a local basket of eggs, honey, flowers or other goodies from the site. We have bees here, so honey is often an option; pecans, pears and peaches may be included. Your "dozen eggs" might be six eggs, a pound of pecans and five peaches; but we will always shoot for a dozen. :)

Kayaks are included with your stay here. And for $30, you can book a shuttle upriver and float back to the site. Choose between a two hour or four hour float. (but take as long as you like)It's $30 for the shuttle then $10 per additional person. Five kayaks are provided, and we can shuttle up to eight. It's one of the best floats in Texas.
